Asta playing a relevant role this episode and putting herself in danger to gather intel. Kinda admirable for her bravery. It was..a rather unique episode imo. Not only does she get tons of screen time but Asta learns more about their society, makes a friend, and stays true to herself. |

Looks like another lore/build up episode. My fears from the start of the flashback that there won't be enough episodes left for a good conclusion feels almost confirmed. Was a fun episode though. I do like Asta's positive go get it done no fear attitude. Wouldn't mind if she gets more screentime in the future. She fit the anime's humour perfectly. :) |

This episode gives off mixed signals about her being an elite spy. Ugh, it's that guy who still seems sketchy if he allowed or participated in all this. Hey, it's the girl who was friends with Cless. Wonder what she's been up to and how she feels about everything. Does she grasp the gravity of the situation? Apparently not. At least she realized she was a girl without any pervy anime twists. Ista is justified in her reactions. Is Shalamy the princess, or is she Rafaed's child? It's intriguing that she hasn't undergone the transformation like everyone else. What sets her apart? |

A much more lighthearted episode after the flashback, Asuta just likes to play to be a Spy and it is nice to see at the very least Sharuami is eprfectly fine and was spared somehow. |

I agree with you guys LOL she was way too relaxed the entire episode. Wasn't sure if they were actually trying to build suspense or just play it up for laughs. Regardless, another banger episode and I can't believe we're so close to the end of the season. |

@leftjoycon Here they are trying to build a sense of wonder more than anything. She is just overly confident in her spy bravado to a cause, so she can keep calm and collected without panicking too much (not that it doesn't happen, she does panic quite a few times in this episode for a couple of seconds before coming up with a solution ASAP). The suspense comes later though, it's clearly not going to be as easy as it seems even for superspy here haha |

Shalamy seemed lobotomized. One thing I have to say is that this was an otherwise okay episode taken in and of itself, but something that bothers me about this series, or the way this series is presented and arranged anyway - and it was well-represented in this episode - is how it jumps around too frequently for my liking from the main characters. Going into this series, it was one of the many seasonals I didn't even learn of the existence of until when it was basically already airing or right before then, and all I knew was the title, synopsis, poster, the other general info on its MAL webpage like genres, and the fact that there was a corresponding 2014 manga it was based on. After watching the first episode, I came away with the very strong impression that Helck and Vermilio were very much the main main characters. But while the setting was at the next Demon Lord selection competition and elsewhere in the demon empire, I was perfectly happy to get a lot more info, more screentime, and see more sides of the other demon characters like Azudra, Ista, Hyura, Kenros, Hon, etc. Then it suddenly catapulted Helck and Vermilio through spacetime via a teleportation gate or portal to some far corner of whatever planet they're on and I assumed much of the show would now be about their journey together. Still fine with this development, as if anything, they were the characters I wanted to see more and the most of anyway. Then there was a flashback detour of multiple episodes which was of greater length than you usually see an individual portion of flashback to take for any series in general, but let alone a series of this length with only 24 episodes to tell and say everything it wanted to. Then last episode I was glad and relieved to finally be back with Helck and Vermilio (+ Piwi) on the road trip journey back home. There was also a major development in the relationship between the two characters last episode - probably the most major of anything up to now and the culmination of everything previously depicted. Then on the 20th episode with only four episodes left to go afterward, the main characters aren't featured at all the very next episode after we've just returned to their part of the story. I'm just not a fan of that type of storytelling, constantly jerking around, unless it's an anthology which actually features completely different characters, settings, and plots every episode or every so many episodes, or it's some form of intentional arthouse puzzlebox mindfuck to which the jumping around in place and time is some integral, indispensable part of the narrative. Of which obviously this is neither. |

And yes, that very frequently means switching perspective from one character or group who is doing something interesting to another who is in a significantly less interesting situation. I rarely read fiction nowadays, but in the past I did read some and both then and now I watched films and TV series based on them. Since high fantasy is something I have a preference for and tend to gravitate toward within the fantasy genre, encountering that format hasn't exactly been an uncommon experience. But I think the difference lies in expectations. It's not something I would for the most part associate with anime or have seen much anime with it being a major feature. Also, for whatever reason, based first on reading the synopsis, then watching it and seeing the writing, tone, presentation, and execution of everything in action, I didn't really associate this series with a grand epic fantasy narrative. It seemed a little more...laid back and casual. So oftentimes series which aren't super serious and intense 100% of the time will be more reliant on continuity of connection maintained with the characters. |

Don't let Hearing Gum containing the properties of both an amplifier and gum distract you from the fact that Bungee Gum contains the properties of both rubber and gum. @WatchTillTandava Arthouse would be Monogatari series or Tatami Galaxy, here you have simply a long story that takes time to unravel. It's not much episodic, even if they try to end every episode with a cliffhanger lol. |

@Alfredo-Sauce @Marinate1016 She is clearly the daughter of Raphael and lover of Cless. In this very same episode she is talking with Asta about her time with the two brothers in the past, but Asta conversation with Ista probably made her already miss detailed information. She clearly hasn't turned because Raphael is still a father, and he wanted to protect his daughter, which gives a new sense on why he kept trying to make Helck flee and survive instead of letting him fight to his death in the castle. He might see Helck as the only one that will be left to be with her once the war is over. |

@Marinate1016 Based on his father being a parent, one day you might understand that too. He has her captive in a tower so she doesn't know what will happen, but might as well be a secure place for the snow and the reach of the king. Afterall, Raphael hasn't turned either, so he has to know how to make exceptions to the conversion or determine areas where it won't affect. He also tried his hardest to convince Helck to leave and have a peaceful life instead of pursuing vengueance, so he might still care about things to an extent, just brainwashed like the rest and in a similar fashion like Emil and Alicia retaining part of his past persona but without the means to fully refuse orders. |

I don't think Asta did too bad a job in spying. She was doing all this without knowing a layout so id think anyone would be screwed in her situation. Only mess up is her not having a very good cover story. Id think a better story she could have gave Shalamy is she had snuck out and fallen and caught herself on the ledge and had to climb in but she doesnt want to get in trouble for sneaking around but oh well her shabby story worked anyway. Marinate1016 said: Im wondering if Shalamy is some high ranking noble’s kid? Either way seems like she’s going to be a very important player in the story . If asta can form a good relationship with her, it’ll be massive I went back to check and there she was in various ages shown in episode 13 shows the name of the daughter that Helck and Cless knew is Shalamy. She has the same eye colour, gentle sleepy looking eyes, hair colour, and straight cut fringe. She just looks slightly different because her hair isnt in low twin tails and is now longer. I had forgotten her face and name like you did too but I actually instinctively knew seemed to be the daughter of Raphael just because he was shown just before we saw this girl which is a way of showing their relation and I made same conclusions as Corban did independently thinking he has held her up in her room perhaps because it's under some spell that protected her from being awakened and he is keeping her away from battles and so she cant be used as hostage. Though with how much a slimeball he is I could see him using his own daughter for some purpose as well like to have something for Cless to live for because magic alone wont keep him alive. So it isnt clear if he's caring for her or using her. Narrative wise he likelly is trying to save her which is part of his motivation for doing his dastardly deeds otherwise hed have nothing left for him to be fighting for. |

It looks like Shalamy 'broke' because of the trauma she has seen. Cless dying, people being awakened into grotesque pawns, she also probably saw what Cless ended up becoming. She is more likely now on 'denial mode' with her mind on a regressed state, judging from what she is telling Asta are just stories from when they were still younger. |

I have another theory though. She's simply a hero. As far as we know there is no way to avoid the awakening snow and Helck seems to be the only one that's not affected, not counting the two villains which I doubt are human anymore, due to him already being a hero. So I'm thinking she had hero status before the snow or somehow got ahold of the awakening with mind more or less intact. Just another theory. |

Trying to read the source to see what's been missed from the beginning before reaching the second cour, but nothing so far. However, i feel like its been a long time already since i last meet with the old cast. Here they come still talks trash while fighting to each other lmao. Now when i look into the female winged soldier more closer to her behavior, i am getting the gist of her is truly Alicia. The power of awakening, plus King magic of order truly changed them all into no more then a mere pawn which kinda sad after the whole fun ordeal with Helck on the past. But then, when Asta taking the spotlight, damn yo thanks catgirl, to your little adventure this episode. Now i can feels relieve to Shalami situation as how she's revealed to be okay being locked down by her shitty noble father. After all the time, all of them still fine. Raphaed, and then Mikaros next. This is truly exciting.... Tho before continuing, i may leave my wild guess about Piwi plot here, as a way to normalizing the winged soldiers conditions to their past human self. Perhaps using the witch power to brew and Piwi as an extract potion, perhaps. But well, that's it i guess, i leave it just like and continue the story. And as i said above, this is truly exciting to see more... |

Aftaer that emotional falshback arc and Azudra's strategy being laid out, it seems like we're back to Asta's somehow happy-go-lucky POV. Well, at least it was until she almost got caught, found her way to Ceres's room, then through hidden passages and ended up drinking coffee in some girl's room. Is she related to Raphaed or something? You know, seeing as how she's also unaffected by the awakening. Strange. |

Can you explain me how they are using him . I kinda didn't understand that properly
@chukesh007 Cless seems to have a power related to moving energy. So he's either a generic component of all high rank spells, or to teleport and resurrect the dead. I don't think it matters much. |

Back to the fight between humans and demons, Helck's transfigured friends facing against the Demon Lord candidates, they are still no match. But Azudra's Plan A with no backup, it has to go like clockwork, with the fear that humans will have tricks up their sleeve, that can only be depended on Asta, who is still in the human realm perfecting her spy work and getting valuable intel. But of all the places, Asta has to encounter Cless still in his unfinished state, while continuing to track at every nook and cranny that she can find. But at every stage and corner where she can be easily found, Asta makes a run on the outside walls, almost being spotted by Raphaed in his trance state. A free window where she made her way in, she gets spotted by Shalamy, a girl who is just as innocent as she comes, and she...seems treated like royalty from the cakes that she was served. Technically, Asta is safe, and Shalamy...seems like she REALLY doesn't really know what's going on outside, so she's stuck with her for quite awhile. |

I was just about to give up the series if anything happened to Asta-chan. Thank goodness it turned out all right <3 |

How do people not know who Shalamy is? She was literally the girl who saved Cless’s life. Also it hasn’t been 3 years of Cless being used to for his body. The events of Cless sacrificing himself and Asta finding him are I would say months apart. It seems like Helck passed out for a few days after seeing his brother sacrificing himself. Then it took him a day to get back to the Royal Capital. Then he was transported to the Demon Country. Then he probably spent a few days with that blonde haired Demon who saved him and probably a few days to a week or two competing in the Demon Lord competition. A few days for the battle at the castle cause the Azudora told them to retake the castle in a few days. Then got transported to the island, they were probably there for a few days to a week, out at sea for a few days, then traveling back to the demon country for about a week. The next issue, why does it seem that Shalamy is younger, smaller, clueless and dumber than she was before Helck left to fight the monsters and when Helck saw her and Cless flirting and looking like they were in love and having dinner with them and drinking alcohol. To the moment where Cless came back injured and she was sitting next to his bed crying and being comforted by Helck, to being this shorter, younger looking, clueless little girl who can’t even remember Cless’s or Helck’s name? She wasn’t that stupid and who could she forget the names of the two kids she saved and grew up with spending 15 years together. Not to mention being in love with one of them. And lastly how did she not get affected by the snow? Rafaed said that no material can block the snow and it was snowing all over the kingdom. My guess is that she probably did awaken just like how Rafaed did, but it didn’t affect her like the others, probably either cause Rafaed loves her and did something or asked the King not to brainwash her or make her a mindless Awakened hero. But it’s really weird how not only is she clueless about what’s going on but she’s smaller and doesn’t have her complete memory and acts like a child instead of a young woman she is. And lastly, Asta is one of the worst spies I’ve seen, it was cute and fun with the narrator telling us about her spy tools. But she makes to much noise, takes too many chances, and never has a backup plan or a exit planned out. Once she gets caught it’s all over, it’s not like there’s multiple spies. She’s literally the only one and the only one who can simply communicate back to the demon country and let everyone know what’s going on. If she gets caught the demon’s are completely blind to the situation. You would think she acts more careful especially the fact that these awakened hero’s can kill her, capture her, torture her and get info on the demons plans. |
