Sad episode, even so, I was expecting something like the daughter reviving as a deformed humanoid or the father saying something like "That wasn't our daughter's arm" at the last moment.

When this season started, I say how the theme was sequels to older episodes based on the first episode, where a character from a past season was present.

But after the second episode and this one I change my mind.

Let's see, what if this season is about "Return"?, Taro is back on the first episode of the season, and this one is about how the mother wants her daughter back.

I don't know about episode 2, but, looking at past seasons with themes, there was always an episode out of the theme,

I swear I remembered this ep and truly, it was quite literally ep 3 of season 1. There wasnt any deviations which was odd. Like ppl mentioned, 2 of 3 so far have been ties to previous seasons, whether a character returns or they do a prior ep over again.

This one was pretty good, I was thinking we’d be in for a pet cemetery situation but thankfully the dad nipped that plot at the bud, they can paint it however they like but I refuse to believe growing their dead kid in a pot was gonna bring her back the same as she was before she died lol.

And speaking of growing the kid, this also reminded me of a cool indie horror game called “Growing My Grandpa”, it’s a wild one.

If you're using subsplease version then it's wrong lol. I had my doubts last ep but apparently those versions are fucked and the real episode is uploaded as v3 etc so it's probably best to go back to that

Isn' t this seasons seems repeating things which was in previous seasons? Last episode that "Zanbai" thing. It was in a pre season. and now this episode as well. Why though?

Apparently he was genre savvy enough to stop it before the catch happened. Was creepy, and better than the previous ep, but just kinda whatever.

Did I run into a localization flaw or do Japanese parents have the umbilical cords of their 7 year olds at hand?

Hm. I wonder how many people would try that. I wonder why the dad wasn't feeling it. Did he have something to do with the death or was he just thinking that it wasn't a good idea/scared of the outcome? Hmmm.

I like this episode, but I'm not entirely sure what to make of the ending. Going by typical genre conventions, bringing back the dead is a recipe for disaster so the father was probably right, although the final line being "no matter what happens, you must not harvest until it's done growing . . ." implies there's going to be some hefty penalty for cutting the process short. Although, maybe that was written in the instructions just to assure the desperate families don't back out.

Based off the father's line "But this isn't" and the constant close-ups of the hand, cutting back and forth to the picture of Mai's hand, it's likely that the hand growing wasn't Mai and Kaori was just too desperate to notice it.

On a final note though, the highlight of the episode was the quick montage of the days passing with the hand growing with those old-timey silhouette shots. It's not often Yami Shibai is able to something visually interesting, so I really appreciated the change in visual direction for that sequence. Not the best episode overall, but the first one of this season I can say I enjoyed.
