This show is back and honestly, it felt like the same as always. There are dramatic and also cartoony moments similar like the previous season.

Chise is still the same selfless person as I remember, willing to help others in need. Wasn't expecting to see so many cats though. That was a pleasant surprise but I think Chise can get along with them. A wonderful start imo, felt left the anime never really left even after all these years and animation still looks gorgeous imo.

We’ve been hearing something, something about the college since the first season, so good to see them getting straight to it without even wasting a single moment. Those opening seconds with such exquisite visuals was just their way to show how normal such things are to this series.

Here they’re in college, both Chise and Elias. Though Chise’s there for reasons you should expect a normal teenage girl from, Elias on the other hand for something more than that “supposedly” magecraft professor thing. We’ll see his role in this arc anyways going forward, but for Chise, guess as usual someone has their eyes on her already. I mean, of course, she has a tendency of getting kidnapped or anything along those lines, so better be aware. But hey as if it wasn’t for someone super suspicious already taking glances of her, she got a super sassy roommate over that and then, perhaps encountered her stalker in the end. So yeah plenty to be aware of, as usual.

Again a fine introductory episode for this second season and much to look forward to from here on. Liked the opening over ending.

It's been a good 5 years since Season 1, and not barring the OVA series that we've gotten recently, Chise and Elias are back for more, under the capable Studio Kafka (which comprises of former Wit Studio staff).

JUNNA's back for another OP, and though not as grand as "Here", it's a good one. edda's ED, I'll take it or leave it...

A direct continuation of Season 1, the Sleigh Beggy Chise is being offered a place in the College from Adolf, but Elias is not convinced when she is a capable mage already. But her 2 curses: the dragon and immortality, proviing to be great research material, prods at the back of her minds of what she went through in Season 1. And being on the wary side, she'll do anything to learn new things. With the introduction of the College's headmaster Liza Quillyn, Chise'll be a capable student in her new environment. But first, caterpillar professor Alexandra Heath wanting to examine her in the medical room while Adolf and Elias go on their own school tour, it's intriguing at best.

Chise's curse of immorality enabling her to see memories of the past, and as expected, someone would have his/her eyes on her. Renfred makes a return being the same as he is, though there's no intent for Elias to kill him now. The dorm matrons of cats under the dorm mother Florence, their eyes will frighten any newcomer, but not Chise., and choosing the freedom of the heart, it's Rose Lyn's corner. Like Elias, Chise slowly integrating into her room with her previous life's memories in tow, this is a world built different, so she shouldn't have any worries. Her roommate of Lucy Webster looks normal albeit with her own eccentricities, it's back to school for Chise, but a lethargic girl on the verge of collapse, what to do about her?

Season 2 will feel different as Chise readies for school.

Gotta love the circumstances under which our dear Chise enrolled on the (surprisingly high tech) college, basically "you're so weird, you'll fit right in with all the misfits". And seeing as all the characters there are ... yes, she's right where she belongs, lol.

I was waiting very patiently for this "harry potter" arc that everyone was talking about, very much looking forward to this season.

I watched this episode MINUTES after I was done binging S1 (still both OVAs left tho) and even with a studio change, it felt the exact same. All the catch-up reference made in this episode still felt fresh in my mind, and I'm looking forward to see more of her adventures as she continue to find help everyone and find meaning in her own existence.

Pretty good first episode, as someone who did not like the first season much, I am hopeful.
Seems to be a better setting that might allow for some more interesting characters or events.

I'm already reading the manga but it's a pleasure to see Chise again
The OP is quite nice and catchy, it doesn't compare to the first season's but it's still good

Finally the new arc of Ancient Magus’ bride is released: this time the adventure is located in a wizard college that feels a bit Harry Potter vibes: we met a slytherin guy who hates non human species, magic animals and a shared dormitory. The S1 i liked the way the MCs travel around the world repelling curses. The S2 seems will go in another direction: let’s see if the college hides secrets and Chise make friends in underground Hogwarts.

Good to have this anime back. Chise and Elias are still really cute together. Though seems like they'll be living apart for now that Chise's living in the dorms. Well atleast Elias will also be there so they can still meet every now and then. Looks like this season will focus on Chise's new school life and new characters there so there will be less Elias x Chise interactions which is sad but oh well. OP/ED were both nice. Looking forward to upcoming episodes.

Mahoutsukai no Youme is finally back. I feel all kind of different ways about this. On one hand it'so nostalgic, a bit like a restart and yet also as if it was never gone. It's remarkable how distinctive the vibe of this show is. Intially I was thinking I should've rewatched S1 in preparation and maybe I will still do so or read the manga, but the 5 year break didn't impair my enjoyment. This "Hogwarts" arc started off well. I'm interested in Lucy and what else this new setting has in store.

It's been a long time since Season 1, and Season 2 kicked off as beautiful as before, even with a new studio at the helm in Studio Kafka. Chise is heading to college, and it kind of felt like Hogwarts honestly, since it's a school of magic and all. I'm glad that Elias, while he objected to Chise going to school, he still respected her decision, and headed to school with her to protect her. Already, people have their eyes on her, so I hope Elias can protect her well. A lot of interesting creatures as well, as Professor Heath certainly was a little off putting to look at, and the cats being the dorm matrons was quite intriguing. Choosing a cat felt like the sorting hat ceremony a little in Harry Potter, except it's a choice and not an assignment.

A great introductory episode to get us used to this new setting, and I'm excited to see more of this wonderful series!

You know I get people are just making a pretty immediate comparison but I do honestly wish people would stop calling this the hogwarts arc. The only similarities the two schools seem to have is they teach magic (which is so basic it shouldn’t count) and that they have a house dorm system (which is just part of traditional British boarding schooling) loved this first episode can’t wait for more.

I'm confused about Chise's age/grade. I think she was 15 in the first season then turned 16 on her birthday. When she said she was going to college I thought there must've been a time skip so she's 17 or 18 now, but then she said she's a first year in junior high, so 7th grade?! I get the "college" might include high school grades or whatever, but does she have to start at a lower grade because she has no knowledge of sorcery yet? Then will she be going to class with a bunch of 12/13 year-olds?

Hard to believe it’s been 7 years since the last season of Ancient Magus Bride but we back.

They been setting up this magical college arc since season 1 so I’m glad we went straight into it. Looks like several interesting new characters and i think Chise will fit right in. It’s good that she and Elias won’t be together all the time too, good opportunity for her to actually grow .

New OP don’t hit like OP 1 but that was a masterclass so it was always gonna be hard to top that

this new studio's staff are mainly former wit studio workers, so you could say it should be the same. Plus their only other work is the previous magus bride special so they are familiar with the material

wow I'm excited to follow Chise at school. I'm glad the mangaka chose this setting for the next arc.
I don't think that I liked the end of the first season much, that arc was pretty strange and confusing. I did watch the boy and the storm knight OVA yesterday, and that was really enjoyable and brought me back to what was so great about this anime.

I really liked the animation in the very opening. it was gorgeous.

This was a very satisfying introduction to the second season of The Ancient Magus' Bride. =)

It certainly didn't waste time as we get to see the new college that Chise would be enrolling in, with Elias himself becoming a teacher at the same place, which will be something new to him. The new characters that we saw from this episode were pretty interesting, although I do hope we get more insight into Chise's roommate, Lucy, in the future, as she does seem pretty cold towards Chise during their first meeting. Maybe she'll mellow out a bit more soon, who knows.

As for the production values, it was very impressive. The OVA episodes that I watched not too long ago still looked nice, but this episode felt like a few steps ahead in terms of how detailed the visuals are and how smooth the animation was for a good amount of scenes. If the staff at Studio Kafka keep this quality up most of the time, then that'll leave me really satisfied! =D

I like when they kick off new seasons like this; there's a sense of a new beginning, but the story still continues. I like that now Chise looks more mature, and the new characters look pretty good as well. The animation looks so good; I like the academia vibe, and some of the scenes are so satisfying to look at. I'm hoping this season is as good or even better than the previous one.

From what I read Kafka is a studio created by people of wit to animate the second OVAs, so there shouldn't be much of a change. I feel that the animation is even more detailed and polished than in the first season, but it's still episode 1.

Wow the intro was amazing, surely did not expect something like that, all the camera movements and colors.

I think it was beautiful revisiting how elias was allowing chise to go if she wanted to and I was so surprised her room mate even noticed her being there. In all honesty, I could prob say more bout this episode but I think it wasn't bad for a 1st episode. I felt like there could've been more like in the final scene, the girl that was watching her couldve like been a cliffhanger for episode 2.

Nice continuation with Chise being at school now so it will probably feel different for the story, I already like the original supernatural elements like just how the nurse looks xD And the cats are gonna be interesting, now we need to get ready for events to happen and it already began with that girl collapsing at the end...

Because of how she got the immortality from Cartaphilus/Joseph along with one of his eyes in one of the grimmest scenes in the first season. The dragon and immortality are currently intertwined but that's all I'll say. Really, really suggest going back to watch the first season if it's that fuzzy, at least the dragon and final arc, they're important foundations of what she's becoming.

~~~
So glad to see this one return and super looking forward to this school arc. It'll go some equally dark paths as the first season and I'm anticipating how they're going to bring certain scenes to life. *laughs* But man, this should seriously be Trigger-Warning the Anime with the bullying, family issues, bits of gore, violence, multiple counts of attempted murder, etc etc. And somehow Chise and Elias manage to work their way through it all maintaining some semblance of sanity and growing as characters.
Oh my god this one is on the money.
It's like a fine wine. Such a rich new blend of Chise and the Magus as we know them with Skool Lyfe. What classic tropes await us? Will there be a snobby noble? An angry, resentful young man? A love note in a locker? Student council, packed/prepared lunches, bullies, will she be stationed at the rear of the room next to a window?
Music's great, the opening is stellar. The comedy relief is bracing.
This sumptuous situation has always found a good place in my heart and I hope it stays comfortably couched therein.
Won't lie when i say i feel old as shit coming back to this series again, absolutely loved season 1 for all it was and it's one of my favourite animes by far. For a good while i thought we'd never get an animated season 2 but i'm glad i was wrong.
I'm looking forward if this season can bring out the same charm it did 4 years ago when i watched it, i feel like dust thinking back about it, but i'll say now the animation quality looks fine af.
Well, though the first season of the series was released in 2017 and I started watching anime the year before in 2016, I wasn't really watching any seasonals until the beginning of 2020, so I was (and still am) watching a lot of older series and just series from all random and various, miscellaneous years/airdates, not because they are newer or whatever. So consequently, I didn't watch this series until on a whim in March of 2020, just a little over three years ago now. So I had only around half the wait of some of those who watched it from the very beginning when it initially aired.
That said, this is one of the few series I get lost in, assign a huge emotional and psychological weight to, and which takes a toll on me, I must say. Because of that, which is a phenomenon not replicated by the majority of series I watch either at all or to anywhere near the same degree (and only exceeded by a handful), it's very special to me. However, let's say I'm wary and skeptical at best in the sense that since learning about the direction the story goes in the manga in the content which advances beyond what's depicted in season one, even long before a new TV anime season was announced as going to be created, I've never been thrilled with the prospect of them leaving the house and all the inherent pitfalls that change of setting is fraught with. I like the more isolated and insular world of the rural cozy English countryside cottage and how that affects the plot and manifests in different ways in their respective character traits and internal and interpersonal character development, feeling very much like an odd pairing or couple on the fringe of the world at the frontier. Now we have this much more bustling, routinely populous and more controlled and intrusive setting.
This despite the fact that I can't discount or write off out of hand the natural fun factor, charm, and appeal of delving into the closest equivalent or interpretation I've seen in anime of a Harry Potter-style Hogwarts-esque setting. So that's nice. This season will be a balancing act and that leaves me tense, but I hope not only tense throughout.
This series is in a very weird place for me because I've wrestled on and off for years with the question of whether I should bump this series to a higher up placement within my favorites; like I've even had an urge to put it in my Top 10. But then I realize from the falcon's eye view when zooming out that for a while I didn't know if the series would ever continue in anime form at all (never gave up hope though and I don't even for series absent from the anime-verse for far longer), and at this point I don't know if this new season will be the last or there will be one or two or three more, five more, eight more, or 10+ more. I don't know if the series will end this year or next or in four years or not for over 10 or 12 years from now. Where the plot and characters are going in the grand scope and scheme of things. And that too is a dizzying and overwhelming feeling leaving me feeling as lost as Chise in the underground corridors. All my favorites prior to this series are ones which were already completed and had long since finished airing for years.
Animation just as great as I remember and looks to be a nice arc. Not much happening this episode overall, but first episodes in a season rarely jump straight into the thick of things.
