Basically, as in the title, what do you think is the biggest flaw of this show? Why is it rated relatively low? What made you dislike it?

I mean I didn't dislike it, imo it ended better than lyco. it simply was destined to be rated low. it's a trashy harem esque show with a douche mc. it never was going to fix the initial bad taste it left in the normal everyday watchers mouth. the show kinda fixed the issues imo pretty well and it didn't have an ending that felt like it betrayed what was going to happen like lyco.

In my opinion,
The fact that demon hunter organisation cannot do anything to high rank demon and keep trash talk to the demon like demon is no match for them annoy me the most.

for example on Shu's sister scene Ayano's mom say like "we gonna capture her alive" and act like Shu's suster is no match for them.

i don't hate it at all but the only things that carried were the animation and fanservice

the plot is bland, especially the whole sister getting pissed part

i don't think its low rated, 6.91 for this is very reasonable

Story sucked, didn't like mc, etc, etc. All it had going for it was good animation.

Tbh I think it takes itself too seriously. It would’ve done better as an ecchi-action comedy but that’s just my opinion.

I mean what else can we expect from a original anime series. But to be fair, it did pretty well for a original series. Another example of a nice original series is prob The detective is already dead, which had both good animation and a decent story, only thing is everybody forgot about it, just like engage kiss. A original anime series with 1 season will never be able to have good pacing, world building, plot, or characters. It’s a given, they have a limited amount of eps to showcase the whole plot without having something to go off of. And they also have limited time. But tbh for a original series the rating isn’t too bad, I personally did find it enjoyable, just a really forgettable anime, which as I mentioned before, nothing more to be expected of a original series.

I thought it had an interesting start, but the plot didn’t keep me interested, and it seemed kind of all over the place thematically. The animation and production values were really great, but it didn’t feel like there was much else behind them. And totally agree with someone else that said it took itself too seriously. I wish it had leaned into its comedy a lot more.

I'm okay now... At least... I want to be able to say that.

No harem... (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

My biggest complaint and the general few dislikes I have is that the show wasted too much of it's screentime on conversations between side characters which weren't any interesting or funny. Most of this stuff is so forgettable and could instead have been used to flesh out the main cast more especially in the first half to raise the following emotional stakes and investment. The world building was also something which they wasted a bit too much time on and could have instead added more romcom scenes, I get they wanted to balance out romance and story but imo the story just couldn't compare to the romance at any time.

Tl;dr it needed more kisara and less of everything else.

If I were to hazard a guess from reading the comments and reviews of those who dislike the show, most of it is because they never understood the characters who were intentionally made to feel unlikable in the beginning. Most people who were complaining are clearly offended by Shu's deadbeat behavior or misunderstood Kisara's actions as a lack of concern for his wellbeing. I have always approached any show with an open mind hence I never felt offended by any of the characters and was just there to see how the story would unfold. Nevertheless, once more of their backstories are revealed, it brought a lot more depth to the characters and reshaped my initial narratives of their character.

As for the flaws of EK, my take on it would be that the world-building aspect of the show is lacking. The origins of demons and demonic possessions, Asmodeus, the politics of Bayron City, the Celestial Abbess and Seiten Church, and the other PMC companies are only glossed over at the surface level. It's not a deal-breaker for me as the main selling point of Engage Kiss is the relationship and romance between the two (or three) main characters, which is flashed out incredibly well in my opinion, but the world-building is an area that could have been done better for an even more immersive story.

Lastly, the animation of the OP is so low effort. (Just clips from episode 1-3). They should have just skipped the OP for all the heavy episodes and have an additional 1.5 minute of screen time to focus on the 'good parts'.

When I compare the plot of Engage Kiss to Lycoris Recoil, Engage Kiss is on a completely different level above. Lycoris Recoil is full of plot holes and inconsistencies, and with their ending, they committed character assassination of the only villain who had a personality and gave the biggest anti-climatic solution.

In conclusion:

Those who prefer Engage Kiss are able to maintain an open mind and invest in the complexity of its characters and story.

Those who prefer Lycoris Recoil are willing to overlook terrible plot inconsistencies in favor of likable characters, ie. Chisato.

Tons of anime in the past have shown which style is more popular among Reddit and MAL users.

I don't understand why it needs to take itself less seriously. My favorite episodes are 5, 9 and especially 11 where there is a lot of melodrama. The comedy aspects are good, but the heart-tugging drama is what gave me the most emotional connection to the characters.

I wanted to like it, but I gave if a 6. Animation was good, story was interesting at first. Then it went all over the place.

There was a lot of dialogue that you honestly couldn’t care less about. They were squeezing world building and character development in the span of 12 episodes, plus romance drama, plus family drama, plus people passing. Oh, and to top it had moments of ecchi as well. They should’ve just made it like Date A Live. It has serious moments but at the end of the day you laugh at the absurdity of it all. If it was going to be serious I really think it should’ve been 24 episodes.

I believe the biggest flaw of Engage Kiss is that it tried to do too much in too small of a timeframe to the point it didn't excel that much in most of its aspects, except the character relationships and interactions.

It had its own supernatural creatures and powers; it had its own world with many different organizations and a whole city with its own political structure; it focused on many harem and romance aspects; it had characters with their own motives and stories to flush out; it had drama from time to time; and it had a fair share of comedic moments. With all these things crammed into a 13 episode time-frame it only makes sense that not every aspect could be properly explored to a greater level. It still a good anime and I like many things about it; but if it had more episodes to tell the story I felt it wanted to tell, it may have been amazing.

Despite that, I do still think that it still could have been done better within that 13 episode run time.

It's 13 episodes not 12. Anyway I disagree that they should have made it like DAL. The reason EK distinguished itself was because the show dared to dive deep into fleshing out the characters in those heartfelt moments.

Throwing Kisara into the dilemma of having to eat Shu's memories which is beneficial to her if her end goal was to win Shu over. Seeing Ayano used Kisara's memory eating ability against her. Showing Shu's downward spiral into oblivion and killing his own foster father. These are the darker themes in EK that distinguished them from the romcom harem in DAL.

I can agree with your other point that they have spent too much time on wasted dialogues with side characters that anyone can care less about - mostly the other PMCs bosses.

That's actually an LN and not an anime original. It's also getting a season 2 so not like people are gonna forget it anytime soon.

Fundamentally engage kiss had a better story than lycoris. Lycoris didnt have much creativity at all. But since chisato was likeable, that show had better ratings and reviews.

The animation is pretty goat. But the humour really wasn't there at all. Also the left will bash any show that has a toxic man with a harem.

But it was pretty obvious a1 wouldn't allocate more episodes to tell a bigger story.

Lycoris and engage kiss in the end of the day are both inferior to Date A Live except for animation.

First impressions are important, as much as I don't want to admit it. And the impression the MC gave me was NOT a good one.

Flaws:
MC is not scum, but unlikable.
There isn't much character development.
Villain in the anime is not good.

Everything else was average or slightly above. So I'm not happy, but overall content.
