Hmm..it's been awhile since I've seen the Fafner franchise.

The movie is okay I guess. The OST was pretty damn good imo. Character design is okay I guess, reminded me of Majestic Prince. One of them really looks like Shin Asuka tbh.

The action was decent but I wasn't really into the CG style.

I found the plot to be pretty dull though with the typical war against invaders. Nice ending I guess. It's a perfect reflection of the promo poster there. The overall plot was pretty cliched that was predictable. 6/10. HELLO ANGELA.

The movie was pretty boring, for the most part. But the ending was so sweet <3

I liked it, i thought the humanized look at the festum and how their changing was nice and tragic. I honestly was kind of hoping they'd keep soushi gone but whatever.

This feature film basically served as the base to welcome Exodus, and I can see the amount of flags they placed to allow a smooth entrance into the sequel. Indeed, the entire plot of Heaven & Earth exists just in order to bring Soushi back - thus it is expected that a rather clichéd plot is to be used (the idea of coexistence between species) in order to to do so, to play safe.

Xebec did really well for this movie in many aspects, to the point of superseding its predecessors in almost every technical aspect and some fictional aspects. Precisely such that the movie barely had any plotholes whatsoever, and was able to maintain a steady pace and logical reasoning throughout the entire film without complications as it was clichéd. Additionally, graphical and animation aspects are like improved tenfold in this feature film (well, it is a film after all) from the TV series, and animation is so fluid here that one can mistaken this movie as Sunrise's.

Characterisation aspects are however, off in this film, being rather short after all. The last 15 minutes of so also turned me off, considering the fact that I was all-out intense throughout the film during the battles and the alien's struggle to defy its god. However, in the end, after wasting so much time, it was still thanks to our protagonists and Commander Makabe whom saved the day. This turned me off.

Once again, this film is just here to welcome the sequel Exodus, and we cannot complain much as such. Hence I would rate this fairly given its duration and main message - 8/10. It was really a good film, considering that the prequel TV series was unnecessarily slow and excessive; which this movie gladly did not have. Now - for Exodus!

I kind of wish this movie only focused on Kazuki. Most of the other characters just bored me. I didn't care for the action scenes either.

As boring as it sounds, I wouldn't mind if it was just an hour straight of Kazuki, Misao, and Soushi talking.

I loved the first series, but this movie made absolutely zero sense, I spent 1:28 / 1:32 minute film wondering what the f$%^ was going on.

Why was the sky killing them? Why did the Mir randomly start attacking? Kazuki goes then randomly comes back?

I hope to sweet Jesus that Exodus isn't the same as this abortion of a movie.

I absolutely loved it even if it absolutely refuses to hold your hand. Honestly sometimes I feel like they're intentionally making the franchise confusing. For instance, would it really be so hard to just say that the thing Soushi and Kazuki were holding back was Mark Nicht.

sheesh
I'm 3 years late, but in case anyone cared about this movie enough to want an answer
the sky killing them seemed to me like a translation issue (or just incompetent writing). I assumed it meant the atmosphere, as in the Festums are using chemical weapons to attempt to poison the atmosphere.
As for the mir randomly attacking, I don't quite know what you're referring to. If you're talking about the Mir on the island then it wasn't that they were attacking, but that they were less effective at doing their job because the core was growing.
As for Kazuki, I assume it was some kind of teleportation/absorption thing. The movie didn't explain it but it's fairly easy to comprehend in retrospect. The only issue here is that it wasn't properly set up so if felt like a bit of a cheat in the story for some cheap drama.

since this appears to be your only post on MAL I guess I'll never know what your thoughts on Exodus ended up being

After watching this, it's a bit weird as the characters felt out of place and there's not even a hint of an updated animation. It's like the animation was degraded when compared to the 2005 special.
I guess we finally get to have another conclusion, a bit long though.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

I didn't care much for the tv series but this movie was awesome. I don't get the complaints, it had better action and expanded the story significantly. 9/10

I wasn't interested in continuing the other series before but this has giving me a slight itch.

TT the best! the many emotions this movie holds squeezed the strings of my heart. Th whole Soukyuu no Fafner series is a masterpiece I fully recommend anyone to give it a chance! As confusing is the beginning may be it only gets better the more you watch! Everything said and every detail has a meaning it's one series that would stay in ones memory for years and years something unforgettable that's how it is for me at least and I am sure many others share this opinion!
