Slightly good episode, the censorship here hurts the sensation of pain from Belaf a lot, apparently those babies were designed as real babies but ending being edited as those animals, eating human babies is more sick than eating animal babies, that's what we do everyday thereby Belaf pain feels artificial. 7/10 episode, the season still stands at 6.5/10.

This isn't true, they were rabbit looking babies in the original manga. They are meant to appear like the rabbit creature Irumyuui kept as a pet.

Well I don't know about censorship in regards to that but they kinda gave an in-universe reason for it. Iru wanted to have kids and also wanted her pet back so those two wishes combined in one and we got animal babies ;)

the first couple chapters of the newest arc are freaking awesome. Brand new characters, and once again, Akihito gets us to connect with them/care for them within the minuscule span of a few sparse panels.... unreal.

The last episode was pure shock factor for me, didn't quite like it, but this one is pure art, the ost, the dialog, the direction, everything is perfect and the story is just mind blowing, a masterpiece episode for sure.

I read elsewhere that the author wanted to originally draw human babies but his editor conviced him not to, once I saw the episode I thought it was true just because Belaf reaction was so outrageous just for eating quasi-dead animals but I cant certify 100% if that information was true.

Considerably weaker episode than 7.
especially the answer from Vueko seemed really lackluster and her speech by the end didn't have the desired emotional impact on me at all.
I also couldn't quite get behind the story / world building in this episode. Where 7 seemed like an amazing blend of fantasy, survival horror and adventure with some elements of crazy, this time it felt really far fetched with the development and fantasy elements which go largely unexplained and just have to be accepted "as is". The adventurers are not nearly in enough shock of what they are experiencing. It's more or less just "vueko suffering".
soundtrack was also significantly better on 7.

I'd give ep7 a 9/10 and ep8 a 7/10

Bondrewd wasn't kidding whe he said there will be curses and blessings farther below. The nobler your are the deeper you are corrupted by the abyss. Wazukyan seems like an upgraded Bondrewd.

....nothing really happened in ep 7 that wasn't merely a set-up for the unprecedented horrors of ep 8.

no, it isn't. it is widely known that Akihito initially wanted the babies to be humans, but his editor was concerned that that would be far too controversial to get commissioned by an animation studio, and they they shoehorned in the whole finding the rabbit thing & having the babies look like the rabbit.

indeed, and this episode was the infamous ch 51 that manga readers had been looking forward to seeing animated most of all, ever since it got published years ago.

Kojima did not disappoint. There is a truly psychedelic & intensely surreal aesthetic to this chapter that almost transcended Made In Abyss. It actually deserved more time/money, ie: the morphing of the sweet, innocent little girl into a gargantuan, towering apartment complex/Belafu's epic transformation into one of the most mesmerizing character designs ever conceived/etc. It was a lot more epic/drawn out/prolonged in the manga, all of it.... Even still, though, this episode contained some of the most stunning still shots of the entire anime. The onlookers' view of Belafu's transformation inside her womb (lobby...?), and the side view of Wazu towering over a Vueko-in-bondage inside of Iru's brain (..attic...? basement..??)

The backstory could have been (and probably should've been) an entire 2-hr feature film unto itself a la the IdoFront arc/DOTDS. Or, at the very least, it deserved a regular length episode+a 1-hr episode, and then have the incoming climax be a feature film.

Masterclass with the previous ep7
Intense sad moments with Irumyuui, the Veko's VA fits perfectly with all dark moments.
Poor Belaf with all that events, most people can react like him.

I think we reach the climax with this ep.
Can Made in Abyss be better and be the AOTS or AOTY ? I hope so

How did a cute show about two adventures exploring a myterious hole become this?
They're just stuck in this city now and we get this whole unnecessary plot about the city that has nothing to do with the original story. I guess the whole season will revolve around this.

This whole seasons lives on shock value. I just find everything about it repulsing. People getting abused and this whole Irumyuui-thing where a child gets turned into a bunch of flesh that is forced to give birth to a messed up child everyday.

I miss the original plot.

Mannn this series is so fucking good!!!

I'm pretty confident we won't see any other horror anime come close to Made in Abyss or at least not many. With every arc the series finds a way to become more terrifying, gruesome, engaging and at the same time create an even more unique and interesting atmosphere. Wazukyan is a monster from the perspective of Irumyuui and Vueko but he also saved the entire village and avoided a situation where Irumyuui was left alive as the only survivor after everyone else was taken by the illness which Vueko herself mentioned she didn't want to happen. Can't wait to see how the next four episodes go ^^

Meh this episode was too "vegan" for me, Belaf went cuckoo because he realised that he had eaten some monster "babies" LMAO. Bud in RL we do that every time we eat an egg or a pork chop. The circle of life.

In ten years all of the so called "fans" of this trashy anime will look back and ask themselves, wtf was all the buzz about?

Much like the "fans" of Vampire Knight are doing right now, where are all those rabid fans at? They are either hidding in shame that they used to "adore" that trashy anime or they are the lunatic woke teachers indoctrinating todays kids.

Me every time I hear the word "reparations": 🤣🤣🤣

I kind of agree, but they are in the center of the abyss, so this golden village and its origins should finally lead to some fucking answers.
