I seen quite a lot about this anime before watching it. And seeing people talk about it when season 2 was announced. What was the hype on this series about? or did people just like it that much?

There was never really a big hype surrounding this anime, sure it was popular for a short period of time but it never reached the popularity scale like SAO or Mushoku Tensei. Now people are talking about it again because the LN has ended and apparently a lot of people didn't like the ending.

Yeah to be honest I found the premise interesting when I heard it being called the "McDonalds Isekai" lol

I mean it is a very amusing anime. It's good.
And yeah it seems like it was well received. I've only heard people praise it.
But I think the hype is almost sentimental. Like imagine seeing something years ago suddenly decides to make a comeback after all this time. It aired in 2013.
I think it's shocking for many, cause once time passes and you eventually accept something is over and move on with your life.
THEN BAM that something pops back into your life.

It's like Masamune kuns revenge (idk if spelling is right) it's been years since it aired and suddenly it's coming back for a second season?! Holy shit. I guess hype is also tied to something familiar.

I get that feeling too lol. I'm so excited for the Urusei Yatsura remake happening this year. I love when older shows get a continuation!

I mean, it’s one of my favorites, so that’s why I was excited. I find it to genuinely be one of the best comedies I’ve ever watched, behind Kaguya, Hinamatsuri, One Punch Man, Konosuba, and Saiki K.

And as for why so many other people were hyped for it? Most likely because of the comeback story. Season 1 aired in 2012 after all, and it wasn’t exactly the most popular show either, so its return is being treated as pretty big deal, even to those who don’t love the show nearly as much as people like me.

The hype wasn't really for the anime itself coz it's nothing special but for that it got renewed after a decade which is quite rare.

Well like others have said, it's all about coming back for a second season. Similar to Classroom of The Elite. People were "hyped" about it not because it's a good series. It's a combination of LN readers, people who don't know any better, and nostalgia--maybe.

new art is meh.
liked the older style.

epi 1 didn't inspire confidence, I hate baby's in anime. they serve no purpose except to add annoyance to the viewer and mild inconvenience to the protagonist. the VA for baby's is always awful and they always have adult intelligence that's jarring.

Season 1 was simply a fun and enjoyable time, nothing spectacular by any means, but I'm sure that most who watched it wanted more. The hype surrounding this comes from the fact that season 2 is now airing after like 9 years of people assuming there never will be a season 2- and now here we are. The hype comes from how surreal it may feel to have something you never thought would come. Similar to Classroom of the Elite also airing this season, but to a larger extent. A NGNL S2 would basically be the end boss of sequels.

But after watching this first episode of S2, I didn't really find it that great at all. I can definitely understand of people don't get why everyone else is hyping this up so much. Maybe we just need a few episodes to get used to the new art-style and rather drastically-different character models.

that's the specialty of this anime. It didn't have any hype train ,like SAO, or JJK. It was just a simple, fun premise, that had really great moments

season 1 was done in 2013 and has 1.3mil members in animalist. the animation was great in some scenes and good in the rest. 9 years later, season 2 is released, by a different studio which might have people complaining on the animation being worse
