Tbh, I always felt like Kojoro represents the more mature type between him and Musashi. So in a sense, him being the "captain" isn't much of a surprise. And lol, Mitsuru confirms that he likes older women when Mitsuru made an appearance.

I'm happy for Kojoro for obtaining his sword but also felt bad for Musashi as he couldn't obtain his. I can't imagine him being stuck in such fate.

This was much better than the previous episode.

That sword trial was really interesting. I felt bad for Musashi, though.

The after credit scene hints something when Tsugumi think of Musashi and Kojiro as father and mother...

I only hope Orient has a storytelling as nice as its characters' muscles, my brain also want to be entertained, not just my eyes.

The Daito Mines has flourishing business while the trio looks out for Kitetsu Blades.

Both Musashi and Kojiro wants to be the best Bushi, and Tsugumi is like a sister character between the two. Settling on a Bushi band name is easy, but it's choosing whom to lead. The rite of passage of choosing a Kitetsu Blade as a sign of becoming a Bushi where one undergoes a trial to determine the Blade choosing its master, this auction is important for the brothers from the Ryuzoji Band indicting this auction to compete between Bushi.

Kojiro's Blue is common, but Red is rare, and the more rare the color, the nostalgic fear multiplies. But Musashi's...is black, and this stuff is of legends only heard and/or witnessed, where Black is complete rejection of all Kitetsu Blades, the color of his soul being forsaken and unsalvageable of being a Bushi. Think Black Clover's Asta, and Musashi's the same.

The descending Kishin drops onto the Daito Mines, and Kojiro's Blue power enables him to slay Oni and get his first-ever recognition. For Musashi, he can only stand on the sidelines and let the dream with Kojiro fade away...that is, he's not out of hope yet, and the Nameless Dog Shiro is his saving grace since he's emanates the same Black darkness as Musashi, the redhead is not done yet.

The very first episode which felt like a 5/5, solid episode. Upgraded my rating from 6->7.

It's time to get the Kitetsu baldes and turns out you can't just pick up any Kitetsu blade and start using it, you have to undergo a trial in which the blade chooses it's master. Now NGL I fuly expected that Mushashi is the first one to get selected and has some special powers but well I was proved wrong, it turned out to be complete opposite, he has a black soul which makes him unfit to use any Kitetsu balde but we saw him use a blade in last episode and it turns out he's a bit unique and that black robed dude again comes in the picture.

The scene where Mitsuru was introduced caught me off-guard, this anime has a weird sense of fan-service and I will have to agree with Mushashi, she does look lovely.

When Mushashi was under the blade's trial, we saw some of his past as well and seems like his dad was publicly executed for some reason, looking forward to see what the complete back story is.

It was disheartening to say the least, seeing Mushashi just sitting there helpless looking at Kojiro and others fighting the oni's, and then later Tsugumi and Kojiro celebrating and everyone praising Kojiro, I mean we are hearing Mushashi say he wants to become Bushi and slay Kishin since first episode.

I don't know if that black robed guy is good or bad but I want him to help Mushashi so that he can defeat Kishin's too and become a Bushi.

I can see them hinting at some Kojiro x Tsugumi or rather I want some Kojiro x Tsugumi, though Tsugumi thinks of him as mother so IDK, the celebration clap was cute.

Also the post-credit was funny, must suck for Tsugumi to be riding with them on the bike with their terrible BO xD.

Best episode till now. 5/5. Looking forward to next one.

Well, who doesn't prefer an onee-san tbh?

Not too shabby of an episode. It touched upon some more fun aspects that are the base for every battle shounen. I couldn't help but think of Zoro when I heard Kitetsu.

I guess the guy at the end is looking for a new recruit for the dark side. Anything else would surprise me. But Musashi is surely going to use the black fighting aura to fight for the humans in the end.

I really thought that Musashi would get the red soul during the sword test because of his hair color and all but actually he got the bad black one that doesn't allow him to use the sword :S while Kojiro is doing great with his blue soul, but seems like that other dude is also a black soul user so maybe he'll train Musashi

Great episode! So Kojiro is the captain of the band because he has a family name and Musashi falls in love with an older woman xD. Musashi and Kojiro also look for kitetsu blades at the auction and it isn't a regular auction. YOU HAVE TO PASS A TRIAL TO WIN THE SWORD! Bushi have different colored souls as well it seems. Everyone such as Kojiro completes the trial easily but Musashi's takes a bit longer...
Kojiro's is blue which is quite normal but Musashi's is black meaning he is 'forsaken.' Musashi has to continue his sword trial many times and is told he can't use kitetsu blades as those who have a black colour won't be accepted by any kitetsu blade!
A kishin appears and summons lesser oni and Musashi is now scared because without a kitetsu blade he can't slay oni. Also, just want to say I'm so happy the lesser oni weren't cgi! Kojiro uses his kitetsu blade to slay the oni and looks very powerful handling it. Wow. I feel sorry for Musashi being left out of all the action and not being able to any praise. However, Musashi meets the guy who let him handle the kitetsu before and he also has a black aura!

Looking forward to the next episode!

Now things got interesting.
I was thinking that Musashi would only be able to use the katana that was from Kojiro's father and that this katana would be much stronger than the others, however, from what happened at the end of the episode, I'm not so sure anymore.

awe wtf that captain choosing bit was pretty cute. i also thought that musashi would go silly competitive over this but nope ! cool stuff there

that kitetsu ritual scene was heartbreaking tho. was that big, white haired man that was tied down his dad? with the one who hugged him a spirit(?) of his mom? and he doesn't remember any of that..

things got interesting real quick here. im like genuinely invested now lol, so glad i stayed

Shopping must be nice to them with kitetsu currency, that white sand, and they just straightly choosing Kojiro as a captain, making the whole scene just fell flatty fast xd. But the later part with the blade ritual kinda grow an interesting bar inside real quick. So the colors were not just there for random visual, its sure had a meaning. Its their soul, and represented how blades showing-off their power. What about Musashi? Looks like red dude had a struggle conquering the kitetsu blade. Whatever that meaning. But that's cliche. So i am mostly sure he will soon have a way to conquer that chick blade out. How and why? Before that, those mysterious dude actually trying to recruiting him. Now everything surely be more interesting than Tsugumi arc. Lets see....

Finally starting to get into the thick of things! I feel like this series would be better off with many episodes rather than trying to cram all of its contents together.

Really curious to how he is going to get the sword. A black soul? what does it mean exactly?

Ah yes... do you remember Musashi sword from opening? As you can see in this episode he will definitely never use it, he will be just a farm boy to the rest of his life. lol
but overall nice episode, I guess he will be using those sword but it will have big effect on his health even risking his life.

If you liked first episode then most likely you will like entire series. Especially since it seems you like Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken (2020).
Also I would say that episodes after ep 2~3 are better and it seems ep. 7 is when series is starting to getting good (we will see that later).
Manga recommendation:
- Spy x Family (Ch.109/? - biweekly) | Sakamoto Days (Ch.198/? - weekly)
- MARRIAGETOXIN (Ch.114/? - weekly) | Machi and Oboro (Ch.19/? - biweekly)
- Make the Exorcist Fall in Love (Ch.82/? - biweekly)
- Monochrome Days (Ch.11/? - biweekly)
Anime recommendation:
- Deca-Dence (Finished) | Wave, Listen to Me! (Finished)
- If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die (Finished)
- Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater (Finished)

dragon quest dai is 100% gonna get a score at around high 7s low 8s once it ends this show though there is no hope it ever getting over 6. also you cant really compare both of these either idk what you were thinking comparing them.

I'm just saying that if you liked dragon quest most likely you will also like Orient, it had nothing to do with score. (I personally gave DQ 8/10)

man idk i’m just too influenced by the overall score of orient seeing it at under 6 gives me the feeling that this adaptation ultimately failed. whereas with dragonquest dai yes the score itself is pretty low too at only 7.14 but it gets very good poll rating in episode discussion threads.

here i am thinking he's taking forever with the kitetsu sword trial because he's going to have some massive crystal and light show

but it turns out he's forsaken. and i immediately think "holy shit. so what happens now? he'll never be able to fight? he'll never realize his dreams? is this show going to do a 180 and make kojiro the mc now? maybe musashi is just going to have to 'purify' or refine his soul throughout the remainder of the series in order to use the blade?"

and then as he's left sitting there all alone at the end i remember, "wait how did he use that blade earlier?!" and poof, the weird sword guy shows up

i might be bumping this up to an 8/10. i think it's gotten less corny overall, and the plot, characters, and backstories are being developed well

Can't help but appreciate Musashi's taste in older women. But hey him failing in that sword trail and Kojiro's getting the green light quite easily, and moreover all that thing about his black side or whatever... kinda reminding the duo of Asta and Yuno ngl.
