Aye, another episode showcasing and Neku and Beat fighting together. They're really becoming a fighting duo in these latest episodes.

Konishi is back again and always seems to bring trouble where she goes. Not a big fan of this particular episode but U'm curoius how to they'll continue the reminder of this season.

Neku’s gotta save Shiki and Beat’s got Rhyme to worry about. Nice to see Neku and Beat form a camaraderie over their goals. The Red Skull Pin has really taken over Shibuya. and it really makes CAT look a little suspicious. Neku really wouldn’t want to doubt his idol.

We also got Neku and Beat vs. Kariya and Uzuki in this episode. Pretty short fight (like every other fight in this adaptation), but it was pretty cool. It was pretty nice of Kariya to give Beat a keycard as a replacement for not being able to hand him the real Noise Rhyme. He’s a pretty honorable dude (unlike a certain Game Master, lol) and it’s nice knowing more about him and how he’s purposely avoided promotions.

It sucks that Kariya and Uzuki are now brainwashed by the pins. But at least Minamimoto is back! Next episode should be fun stuff.

The pacing continues to be pretty good. Only two more days adapted and at this rate, this week will get at least two more episodes, especially since the 7th Day is long enough to be its own episode. If the first week was paced this well, I would've felt more enthusiastic about the overall adaptation. But at least the adaptation is a lot more decent than I was initially expecting it to be.

So Beat and Rhyme were brother and sister and they both died because of a car, that's sad... it's more and more mysterious with the effect of the badges and CAT himself, too bad that even though they defeated the reapers they didn't get Rhyme back and now they need to reach Konishi, and wtf was that end of episode with Minamimoto, things are going to be tense next week.

Week 3, Day 4: Beat and Neku got dastardly beaten by Reaper Konishi, to which both Beat and Rhyme died in the real life as siblings, resurrected into the Underground with Rhyme's memories as her entry fee, and putting a stain on Beat's memories. Both him and Neku share the same ideals and objectives, so at least they're aiming for the same thing.

The Red Skull pins of people wearing them leak around Shibuya, and CAT Hanekoma feels suspicious if he IS the Composer.

Nevertheless, Reapers Uzuki and Kariya's mission game for both Neku and Beat by the way of a 2 vs. 2 partner fight, the short fight sequence is as ever gamery levels of smooth. Though the Rhyme reward was a fake, Kariya handing them his Level 4 keypin was indicative of progress.

By the power of the O-Pins, both Reapers Uzuki and Kariya have become brainwashed underlings. This'll cause serious consequences going forward, as is Hanekoma's plans to wreak havoc.

Hands up in the air for anything that could happen.

Got to see how Rhyme and Beat died. They're pretty obvious siblings from their names already, one is Rhyme and the other is beat (like in Rap). Anyway, both Neku and Beat are getting along together fine and are determined to save Rhyme and Shiki.

Those reapers were strong but the team of Neku and Beat managed to defeat them and got Rhyme back, sort of. Konishi still playing her cards from the shadows. The consequences the reapers had to face are still unclear since they look under someone else's control now.

Rhyme and Beat being related was pretty obvious, but my heart breaks for him with his sister not being able to remember him. That’s torture. Only a few more eps left :/

Beat died failing to save his sister Rhyme from a car crash? That's tuff.

They are brought back in the Reaper's game, but his sister's entrance token is any memory of him? That's tuff.

Now Rhyme is lost again after sacrificing herself to save Beat from a different crash? Beat must have been going through it, makes sense that he went to the extreme of turning Reaper.

Kariya and Uzuki no! Well, at least they weren't erased. Pretty good episode! I didn't think Beat and Rhyme were siblings but I am also not really surprised, that was a sad backstory. Beat and Neku being bros is pretty entertaining though. I don't think Hanekoma is the composer but, he definitely got some powers in the underground. Was that Minamimoto he just conjured up or something? Our zetta boy is back. Looking forward to the next episode.

Its now episode 9 and its really good.. in this episode, more puzzles come up after one is solved, like hanekoma continueing the taboo circle in the end.. is hanekoma really the composer? Or is he actually one of the reapers? In any case, i would have to agree with ironface, that we need more data on whats actually happening and why does the reapers have to be so cautious against neku? Beat was right on doubting CAT as the actual composer.. i even doubted him too, cuz of all that he can do with the players.. and it seems that everything is all connected somehow, from nekus death conspiracy, and what they have been up to.. Anyways, i rate the episode a 4.5 of 5, 4.5 for both story and art.. :)

Well, I was so zetta slow with typing this all up... it's been a while since I last tried to type up an Episode Discussion post, and I haven't bothered to re-watch this episode to refresh my memory, so all you're gonna get is a vague summary of the vague notes I took while watching the ep on the day of release... I bet you all can guess why the lateness and this treatment...

✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶

Ah, the Miyashita Park Underpass and the flowers. Figured out the reason why Beat looked at those flowers for a while whenever you interacted with them in the game pretty quickly, but I definitely did not expect to eventually see him talk about his troubled relationship with his parents at the time. Somewhat relatable... wonder if anyone else thought so too.
Rhyme being Beat's sister is indeed a big plot twist; too bad MAL and some other websites spoiled that for me at the time looool Hearing Rhyme's 「はじめまして。」 during the anime's flashback honestly kinda hurts to hear even though I already played the game. Nice work anime staff, Neku telling Beat "I believe in your idiocy" as they fistbump was pretty funny and Beat finally calling Neku by his name and not "Headphone" was nice too. These lil bits are probably some of the few good things this anime adaptation has to offer imo.

Speaking of flashbacks, the anime also finally decides to actually use flashbacks appropriately imo: during Beat's talk which also gives Rhyme some more valuable screentime, and when Neku says "When someone risks their life to save me, I feel like I've gotta trust them" there's some flashbacks of his partners. I honestly feel like this anime adaptation unnecessarily over-relies on flashbacks (budget must reeaaaaaally be low I guess), which is a bit amusing because when flashbacks started happening in the game, the anime hadn't started using those until after Week 2 started... but idk I don't have a problem with these ones in this episode.

Anyway, on to the rest of the ep... a bit odd that scanning O-Pin people is changed in the anime to no thoughts instead of a certain thought *cough cough*, but whatever I guess... Neku suspects CAT as the composer while the anime lets Uzuki and Kariya have a scene at the Mexican dog place again, oh that's nice... oh, Eri again, she's wearing Shiki's familiar-looking clothing this time and Beat learns her entry fee... more of the show relying on flashbacks... I think there's a fight here, but the anime just lets them spam the Fusion attacks again... oh, the anime gave Reaper Team Rocket a cage to put (fake) Noise Rhyme in just before their fight, interesting... Uzuki is kinda a tsundere and Beat sarcastically calls Kariya "senpai" again... ehh I guess I'm just breezing through this summary......
Oh I guess I remembered Neku's "shout" at the end here being kinda funny. *shrug*

Kinda obvious Rhyme and Beat were siblings from their names and their similiar appearance but still sad the way they died and Beat regretting not being able to save her twice.

It was cool learning more about Beat as a character.

I really enjoyed Kariya's entire relaxed attitude. I'm glad he didn't get erased at the end.
