THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Even without the usual intensity of the past few episodes, this one was quite interesting given the context of the Asakura family and Hao's history.

Pacing should pick up again soon. Asakura's family really is something...

The Great Onmyoji, Hao Asakura, you don't call him the enemy of the Asakura Family for nothing.

Hao's pentagram of the laws that master the Feng Shui / Yin Yang elements, he's basically on a whole other level that Yoh couldn't have mustered if he wants to defeat his brother. That's why Yoh cannot drag everyone into a family affair such as this.

But more importantly, now that the secret is out, Hao's Spirit of Fire of an Over Soul is seriously no joke that took even the Patch Tribe by surprise. That's even more so for Karim and the others who finally had a chance to learn about Yoh's backstory and how the battle was already set in stone 1000 years back.

With Yohmei's divination that led Keiko to birth twin brothers (Hao and Yoh), Hao's which has to be killed to prevent his reincarnation, and they were powerless to stop Hao in his tracks. So the burden is passed onto Yoh, and so sets in motion the fate that Yoh has to suffer to be the Shaman King, their only hope.

A dilemma of a family, an eerie but nice episode for context.

Is writing in this version so bad or is it passage of time that makes me root for Hao? How dumb were the lines of Yoh when he complained about Hao toying with people just because he didn't let himself get killed in a match after revealing the medium... Manta is way more annoying that I remembered from the first anime or the manga as well.

Wow, you tried to be funny? I guess this is too much for today's kids and even older people to handle.

Wasn't trying to be funny, was trying to make my watching experience as optimized and efficient as possible.

Damn. They sure made Hao extra op, huh? Jesus.

Overall, interesting backstory episode although we already knew most of the stuff it covered.

Smol Spirit of Fire is so cute tho.

Didn't they show this in an earlier ep?? Why wasting eps on this again?? Sure it put something new, but that only means that they shouldn't put this in the earlier ep!!

We have static and quick fights that could be improved and they aren't, and we have this talkative eps that are dragged... This is indeed a sh*t studio! They don't know how to manage the time and how to tell the story, and especially how to hook the audience. One of the worse studio performances that I have ever seen!

Nice story tho!
For the ones that like to bother others (like me) with "you should read the manga/LN", please stop. I don't read mangas, I will NOT read mangas, I will not listen to what manga readers complain in adaptation to the anime counterpart, I only watch anime except in very few and specific situations.

It is almost like the manga readers have been saying every week that this series is about people talking and not the fights. Only to be ignored because "It's a battle shonen" "the series is literally about a tournament"

Yes a tournament in which an average fight has one attack per two chapters of dialogue.

So this is both true and not really true.
While Hao is overwhelmingly powerful, raw power has never been his forte. Sure he is extremely OP, but considering that he has built this mana level for a thousand years... That's not impressive at all. The god class shamans in the tournament given a 1000 years to increase their mana would likely be dozens of times stronger - is my assumption.

What really makes Hao a beast is the fact is a genius scholar, starting with the fact that he is the only person that ever managed to master all elements and gained an ability to reincarnate, another thing he is a master of, is the combat system.

Every, single, move - is precisely calculated to use the Power system in Hao's favour.

In the fight vs X-3 he had vast power advantage, and yet still chose to do all he could to trigger his opponents and make sure their oversoul aren't stable before engaging in combat.

In this scene though, I do not think Hao was strong enough to overpower the Asakuras.
There is seemingly no reason for Spirit of Fire oversoul to be this small. Mikihisa jumps in front of Yohnmei and takes the hit from Hao's oversoul, only suffering minor burns and finally - Yoh, serves no real purpose to Hao. There was no need to split his soul into two. Sure he would like Yoh to join him, but he could always gather many powerful henchmen regardless of wether Yoh exists or not.

But he needed Yoh at birth. Hao knew that if he tries to reincarnate as an Asakura, they WILL try to kill him. And he knew they are likely to succeed unless they hesitate. And what better way to make them hesitate, than make them worry if they are killing the correct baby. One is evil, one is innocent -few people in the world are so heartless to not hesitate in this scenario. Hao played them and completely covered up the fact he couldn't access most of his power at the time

That was a really good episode! Hao is so cool damn, but also terrifying. Everyone now knows that Hao is Yoh's brother and also the Great Onmyoji and also the progenitor of the Asakura's. Well that's an expected reaction for Manta, dude is just a regular small man lmao.

Also nice that we get a more in-depth look of Hao and Yoh's birth from the first episode. I wonder where their parents are since they're alive. Looking forward to the next episode.

Sorry if I'm kinda confused with your statement... Are you saying that it is alright to step up a fight that people was eager to see and literally piss on the fighters life not giving them the deserved lore that they need before dying, but it is okay to waste a full ep where the major part is showing what they already shown in an earlier ep only to show a little more information about it??

I have no problem with talkative eps, I have a problem on lacking of balance. Dragging things that were already shown. If they wanted to make that scene more "complete" with more information this time, I'm ok with it, no stress! But at expense of other scenes that are new and that deserved some more information/action?? DEFINITELY NOT!!!

Yoh's father was literally explaining Hao's ability at the beginning of the episode. This isn't a spoiler you just wasn't paying attention, but he's name was called couple of times. At the beginning of the series, also when he was informing Yoh's grandfather and next episode is literally called Mikihisha Typhoon

Good Storytelling with Great OST...

Hao's Oversoul can absorb other souls and he's also set it up to switch between elemental forms according to the Wu Xing, hence he's undefeatable. If the X-Laws fight with what's flammable, it can burn them as a Spirit of Fire. If they fight fire with fire (burning off all the oxygen with their x-grenade), he can just switch it to being a Spirit of Water.

interesting episode and all, but the 2nd half was interesting even in the firs episode lol.

the fact that yoh is the other half of hao is interesting, and makes me wonder how it will play the part in the future of the story. it's mere guess so it's not "spoiler", but my guess is that yoh willingly give hao his "other soul" at some point.

oh, and if manta was somehow "useful" in the first part of the anime, now he's just annoying little kid. i want to kick his face. he doesn't even had any interaction with yoh in the past episodes and arcs. he's here just because he's exists . .  .
