THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The way that arena is constructed seems more like a death sentence to anyone who wants to fight and survive in it. Unfortunately, Fushi himself got caught in all this mess with those prisoners.

Feels like they really wanted to illustrate how dangerous that island is and in a realistic way. Incredible how brave Fushi is.

Fushi is immediately thrust into the "tournament arc" of Jananda, where the brutal fight for freedom is as ever illusive in an arena. Of course, people are shocked that Fushi's immortality doesn't yield, and that's even more so for the girl that intentionally lured both him and Pioran to Jananda in the first place: Tonari.

Fushi becomes a sensational figure as Jananda's potential island chief, and formally introducing the broker crew (plus Tonari): Uroy, Mia, Sandel, Oopa and owl Ligard, the group of kids who have a desire to leave the prison island of Jananda, and giving a demo tour of Jananda to Fushi. The brutality is made known to all, young or old, and escape is not easy to achieve, prisoner or citizen. The reveal that Pioran was a criminal who poisoned 10 Yanome people, that only fumed Fushi all the more for abnormal people like them.

Requesting The Beholder for help to save Pioran, but it'll only appear when the Nokkers show up for growth. Fushi's need to not exterminate humans goes against whatever death damage has already been dealt with before, and deciding on the fates of the people whom he meets. by himself. Nevertheless, someone scarred appearing on Fushi's sleep...is just scary...knowing it's most likely Hayase who discovered him, and swiftly also entering into the same tournament in disguise.

It's back to the 1-on-1 matches in the arena, truly it is that Fushi doesn't want to be on the offensive, and for a moment he remembered Parona's form to shapeshift into her. This will be a long journey for Fushi to achieve freedom, now that everyone knows that he's immortal...including Hayase.

Dude, do you understand the meaning of "pacing"? I don't mind if her past comes out later, it's just not suited best for whatever is going on right now. Don't expect the anime to follow the manga 1-to-1.

That really looks like something straight out of the Tournament Arc or something and this Jananda island is getting way more interesting to me. Poor Fushi has been pushed into this mess along with all those prisoners. It felt really brutal not gonna lie. I know Fushi's immortal but seeing this gets under my skin but whatever.

I wanna know more about that girl, Tonari, and the other kids with her. We also got to know a little more about Pioran's past and how she was a criminal once. The stories are tangling into something more than what it seems to be. I wonder what it has in store for us next. Things are getting interesting and dangerous, well things were always dangerous, at least for Fushi.

What's a shonen without a tournament arc eh? The gore this episode was crazy, but the idea of the inhabitants finding life and death to be as normal as can be is slightly disconcerting to say the least.

I seriously don't vibe with Tonari and her motley crew, most likely because her crass behaviour comes off quite arrogant and the fact that she tends to withhold key information which is not the best when you want a mutually beneficial relationship. 80% commission? What a business woman xD!

Fushi struggling with killing others is a great topic, as it shows the empathy he learnt from his time with gugu and the others, rate it. That internal struggle is lovely to see, and I'd assume most soldiers go through the same thing so it's a fairly different concept to actually explore rather than the usual I dont want to kill you but the only way out is to kill you business that some action anime tend to take.

Pioran was arrested for murder? Colour me surprised, the clues are there, not of her being a murderer but more of her committing a crime since she was arrested after all, bet it's something like protecting a kid from the yanome not something like a cold hearted killer but colour me surprised if she is.

Seems like fushi can transform into people who aren't dead? Or does that transformation mean that march's sister is dead? But I thought with the foreshadowing that march's sister was the guest on the island? Slightly confused lol, let's hope next episode clears things up.

The brutal battle has begun. This tournament arc is great.

That island is a living hell. I feel sorry for Fushi because he's forced to be in a such a gruesome situation.

That island is really hell, Fushi suffers so much because of the tournament and even though he doesn't want to kill people they seem to be all crazy and still want to fight... Pioran is also really mysterious with how she apparently escaped, same for the one that licked Fushi and that is fighting hmmm

Another very good episode as always.

I don't particularly like the 5 kids yet, but the episode preview makes me feel like next episode might be specifically for that so I'll be waiting.

The crazy Hayase from way back appears again and it gives me a bad feeling for the next episodes.

Fushi not wanting to kill people and feeling bad when he accidentally kills a mole is the cutest and saddest thing ever at the same time, poor little guy.

The "Black Hood" guy is still an asshole I guess, really wish he'd help Fushi every now and then but it makes sense that he doesn't. But saying that "Fushi essencially killed Gugu" was way too harsh jeez.

That was one giant surprise at the end, very cool. Makes me really hyped for the next episode.

I guess Parona died off-screen? Unless He can transform into living people and he just doesn't realize it but I doubt it. Could be related to why Hayase is here.

The preview made me fear that the Nokkers attacks are going to become repetitive and similar which could be pretty boring, hopefully I'm wrong and we actually get to have more interesting things from them.

Watching the Colosseum shit go down really made me miss the Kino's Journey Colosseum arc. That arc wasn't as gory and bloody, but the writing in that one really made it to be one of my favorite arcs in one of my favorite series ever. Still though, this was decent.

i seriously hate Tonari , like HATE her but im assuming future down the episodes she will have some character development but i hate her a the moment seen as its her fault that fushi and Pioran are in this mess.

also seen as fushi can transform into things that have died does that mean Parona died or has he acquired a new ability?

I'm going to assume that Parona died to Hayase because she aided in Fushi's escape beforehand, and now crazed Hayase is back to finish what she started.

It seems that Hayase possibly killed Parona and was also the person who made Tonari force Fushi and Pioran onto the prisoner ship?

If that's the case, then it's interesting that Fushi was able to transform into Parona without actually witnessing her death.

I dont know what Tonari want to do but we see that in the next episode.

I think it's good that he questions everything on his own and that he doesn't want to kill anyone, but unfortunately he can't help it if people sacrifice themselves for others.

So crazy bitch is back and now she's licking faces.
Fushi can take a form without a person dying in front of him, might lead to less heartbreak.
It also seems like the old lady has an interesting backstory.

Wait....is it confirmed that The cloaked "fighter" that uh...licked Fushi is Hayase?
I thought for a sec that the cloaked person was Parona which kind of explains why Fushi could transform into her just by her licking (though the reasoning in this sense is a little twisted)

If it's confirmed the cloaked fighter is Hayase....then maybe -as others have been guessing- because Hayase is assumed to have killed Parona maybe Fushi being "licked" by Hayase combined with remnants of March's emotional attachment to Parona was enough stimulation for Fushi to be able to transform into Parona (even though he was nowhere nearby when Parona supposedly died)?

Technically the emotional stimulation is there (via March) and the physical simulation is sort of there? (Through Hayase)...though the latter might not have been necessary anyway...

kinda grasping at straws a bit I admit...

Ugh, why did the show bring Hayase back? I mean, I know she survived and all, but she is one of the worst characters in the entire show. I would say worst, but Tonari somehow manages to be even worse and I refuse to feel anything for her and her band of merry men when they inevitably get killed for emotional manipulation purposes. I barely even paid attention to their names as there is no point caring at all about any of them.

Honestly, the exploration of this island society with Tonari and co honestly felt like a mediocre episode of Kino's Journey, like a rip-off of that show's gladiatorial country Kino travels to.

Also, why is Fushi just able to transform into Parona without us viewers or Fushi seeing her death, if indeed she is dead? You can't just rewrite the rules at random, without any foreshadowing or explanation: that's just bad writing, and it was obviously done to allow Fushi a cheap way to beat that guy who wouldn't back down. And it's now fairly obvious that this whole tournament is going to end with Fushi taking on Hayase in the final battle and having to decide once and for all if he wants to kill people or not.

Oh, so the girl in the preview was Hayase. Seeing that Parona appears among Fushi's transformations in the OP and isn't dead, I assumed we'd see her back to serve that purpose. On one hand, I wanted to see her back but on the other hand I'm glad it's Hayase and Parona is safe somewhere....

It seems I spoke too soon and Fushi can now transform into Parona. That came out of nowhere, but I don't think she's dead and it's just a new ability he's gained. Or at least I hope so.

One thing I'm thankful for this arc is that the death of the kids won't hurt, they are insufferable, especially Tonari. They're probably a product of the environment but still....

-> Single guy defeats every oponent in the colliseum

-> Fushi stands there thinking about old geezers wise words about not letting people find out the immortality secret

-> Guy attacks Fushi with everything

-> Guy can't kill Fushi. Either fakes a heart attack or actually gets one

In the wise words of Herschel Krustofsky...

And somehow, Fushi can just leave the colliseum without any of the guards questioning or helding him hostage or anything, he just walks out the front door until next a few hours later or a whole next day where everybody is waiting in line to pay up to see or ride the elephant, I mean the immortal kid.

I really don't know if I'm supposed to take this seriously, or is some sort of weird joke.

They run some sort of pseudo-anarchy in that island, where anyone is allowed to kill anyone. Wich brings up the question, why haven't they targeted the farmers or any other useful prisoner that harvests goods if they are such savages that can even kill an announcer with a straight arrow shot. And also, what's the point of surviving this tournament and become chief, if most of them are killed within 2 weeks or so with nothing to change in this disproportionate island.

There's also the part where Fushi can turn into Parona, whom he barely remembered (cue in the power of friendship song). Wasn't clearly stablished that he could only transform into creatures that died near him?

The freaking owl has more brains than any other habitant of that island in order to recognize Fushi while transformed into a mole and taking it exactly where he's supposed to be at the time of the 2nd round tournament. How convenient...

It's been hinted by "God" that Fushi would be able to transform into people just from memories. So it'd make sense if Parona was not dead - it'd be a pretty weak concept if her distant death somehow triggered Fushi's ability to transform. So far Fushi's power seems to derive from "observation", and from their own point of view - nothing indicates that some bullshit remote sense could take place.

It's also interesting how they have been able to reconstruct pieces of lost memories indirectly. I wonder if Fushi will learn to resist the Nokkers power eventually, by internalising those memories as a part of themselves.

I like the character development in this episode as well. Fushi's being a little bitchy about killing, but that's not something that just comes from the people they've interacted with. It's a genuine trait of their own budding personality, and they'll hold onto it even as circumstances and others encourage otherwise. Also "I'll find my own way" - that's a nice sign of independence right there. It's not just "you told me so, so I'll do the opposite"; it's a promise to find a third option. That's pretty good.

Though I'd appreciate if every now and then a protagonist said that and actually found a realistic third option. Usually it takes some deus ex and that sends a bad message. We need more anime that teaches people that sometimes you are between a rock and a hard place and there aren't any good decisions to be made.

I actually don't think she is dead. We saw him transforming into organisms just through the experience of pain alone and if that stimulation can give him a new form, why not an old friend and awesome memories who give a stimulation greater and longer lasting then a bit of pain. Or perhaps it was the feeling of missing her that gave him enough stimulation.
