My immersion and empathy ran quite deep with the ending scene and it felt rather realistically done. Not necessarily forced like some commenters had viewed it.

As at first Satoko is in the 'regular', 'normal', friendly environment with her friends, a subconscious reflex deflecting the head patting in order to avoid making a correlation between Keiichi and Teppei. Once the arm had been deflected, both of her realities collapse as she gets flashbacks (not shown directly since they aren't nice, but instead shown to us as a delayed action). As she flips back and forth between a traumatic vision and current reality, realizations begin to pile up how the traumatizing 'reality' at Satoko's home is flooding into and corrupting her 'happy'-'everything is fine' life among friends at school, which could likely feel as if the doors for 'escaping' the abusive life are closing. Disorientation and distress cry for an escape ensues.

I'd deem it plausible that this type of demonstration could sometimes unfortunately seem a little foreign.

I think there to be a minimum of 2 reasons for Satoko to vomit.
1) Sometimes a racing mind piling up limiting realizations will cause a general gagging reaction (well... simplest example is stage fright).
2) Something... not nice. I'll rather not go to details about the second one, I actually don't want to approach thinking about the details. With a masochistic mind it takes effort just to keep away from it.

Anyway, quite frustrating to watch episodes bound to end in a way that leave the viewer feeling trapped with desperation for which a resolution is weeks away.

An abused character faking their abuse is something I don't see R07 ever doing as a writer, pretty much every time he talks about these issues he's doing it with great care and using his personal experience with dealing with abuse victims. I don't think it's a line he would ever cross.

It is actually very easy to "fake" vomiting by preparing yourself beforehand by coughing non stop for a while. After that you have the feeling of wanting to vomit for a while and you will if you force yourself. And yes eating during that time is a very bad(or good if it was planned)idea.

Damn, never knew that. Not that I will try it anyway, lol.

Or the infamous scene at the end of Onidamashi where Mion is telling Keiichi about Rena, Rika and Satoko's deaths. Her expression was so :| that many old viewers were theorizing it was actually Shion because there was no way Mion would remain that calm while talking about the death of her friend group.

I actually liked that scene lol, the VA did a good job making Mion's voice sound sad but like she's trying to keep her sadness inside and show that she's okay and strong in front of the injured Keiichi, i thought her face was like that to reflect that. That's how Mion is, she always tries to show that she's strong but she's actually weak in this kind of situations (maybe this's a weird explanation but that's how i saw it).
In the manga there's no voice acting to rely on so he had to make her look sad to reflect her emotions.

Tbh, that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it: it's Mion trying to be strong for Keiichi. Mion's not one to go crying, especially as the heir of a yakuza family (she only cries when K1 hurts her on a personal level). But after seeing so many people having that theory that it was Shion, I do wish they had at least given her droopy eyes or something to convey her sadness, sort of how she looked in the OG anime's Minagoroshi when the child support services were not listening about Satoko's abuse.

Mion's VA has only improved with time. That scene at the end of Onidamashi and her voice acting at the end of Watadamashi have been top tier.

Talking about Rika's reactions, that scene where everyone's waiting for Chie to come back from Teppei's house, everyone upset, and then you can see Rika in the background sitting at the stairs in fetal position, to me that was the lowest. It was really sad to see her like that.

That broke me too. I really wanted to go and give her a hug. But at least that's showing some emotion, it shows that Rika is feeling how she should be feeling. But that nothingness in the end... absolutely heartbreaking to see her so desensitized.

Agreed, it was beautiful and sad. I've seen most people shit on the music because they're reusing too many of the original tracks, but I haven't seen much appreciation for the new tracks, and they have been amazing.
I've noticed they've been using VN's bgm, but not the original ones, but the replaced by mangagamer ones instead. Idk if that's the case, I noticed because I was trying to find something else and ended up finding the bgm that plays when Rena is assaulting Keiichi in Onidamashi.

If only they used some original, in apropriate moments, for nostalgia's sake, that would be awesome. I'm not criticizing though, I don't think it's desynced at anytime. Especially the main theme, they're using it at the best moments to use it so far.

Seriously? I didn't notice that! Can you share the link to compare?

I know some people have given shit to Mangagamer for replacing the tracks, but I heard it was a request from 07th expansion themselves. So it makes sense that they would prefer using these newer tracks. Anyway, I wouldn't notice it if they were the original ones because I've only read the steam versions, so I can only recognize those.

I also love the new rendition of the main theme that they used at the end of Onidamashi. The best part of that episode. I also loved the track they used for Mion and Keiichi's talk in the underground cells - Shukumei, it was composed for the OG anime but never used for some unfathomable reason and it's one of my favorites.

Ditto. It would be extremely unrespectful and cynical. And what would be the purpose of it? If you want to establish Satoko as suspicious or being a looper, you can do it in so many other ways (like ep. 8). It would be unnecessary and offensive to real abuse victims who suffer breakdowns.

The track in question is Kyouki. It plays in the 2nd trailer and during Rena's stabs in Onidamashi. I'm trying to backtrack, but I have no idea how I got it related to the VN. I remember I was trying to find either dancers7 or demonic institute in the files, or their names on youtube.

So there's a chance I'm mistaken, since they're using tracks from the old anime as well. There's a track with the same name in Meakashi files, but since I'm using the patch, it's probably back to the original one. And there was no reason for me to search there, because I haven't started Meakashi yet, I'm just about to, in the next days. Only if I played something before patching and by coincidence it was the one.

The steam version, if you didn't patch it, has mangagamer's tracks. So if you didn't recognize any of them, I'm probably mistaken. There's a chance that the track was a leftover, but from the dates, it was probably used in the old anime.

Sorry if I'm not exactly on the loop and missunderstood something, but anyway.

Pretty sure that Kyouki has been in Higurashi since Deen time and that it is composed by Kenji Kawai. Kai VN (OG) does have same named song, but it's completely different. (Kyouki just means Madness/Weapon or something, so it fits the themes anyway)

What comes to the anime using the VN tracks, I doubt it. Can't say for 100% cause I've listened both of them quite a bit and might mix them up, but haven't noticed anything that sounds like it was from the VNs.

Now then if we Mangagamer ost, to that I'd say absolute no.
Opinion: Fuck Mangagamer.

I don't remember much about this Steam VN patch, but I'm pretty sure they didn't turn it into Mangagamer ost (atleast back when this happened and I was playing them) rather they "remastered" certain songs which just sounded worse...
And removed the fuck out of Digital Network :(

So yeah, I guess I was wrong. Imo those remasters really suck, at least now you have the option to choose between the remastered or keep the original track. And I'm really glad that I thought "I don't like remasters, I want to hear the original".

Again, fuck mangagamer, I mean, really. What a stupid idea to replace Digital Network to some Higurashi Daybreak bgm. At least it can be reversed now, the way you say it, it seems you couldn't before.

In the original Higurashi i found Satoko to be annoying and an unwelcome addition to the group. This event is relative to the original, even so, I've never had such a strong 'protect complex' reaction before. Seeing a child display signs of post traumatic stress brought on by the simplest of triggers makes me feel utterly and incomprehensibly uncomfortable. The abused, depressed and vulnerable will put up a strong facade claiming to be alright but it only takes one misstep, usually the one they don't expect, to have their walls come crashing down.

Oooooh, yeah, now I know the one! That's a great track. It was indeed in the soundtrack of the original anime, but as far as I know it only appeared in the trailer for Kai. See 0:38 in this vid.

I have no idea why it was never used in the anime proper, though. There are a couple of tracks in the soundtrack that aren't heard even once during the anime... what a loss. I'm glad with Gou for bringing two of the best and unused tracks from the old anime - Kyouki and Shukumei (the one I mentioned above that plays during K1 and Mion's talk in the dungeons).

However, I don't recollect this specific rendition of Kyouki being played during the VNs. But digging around I found another track named Kyouki (Insanity) in the VN, and this one I recognized very easily:

So mystery solved. Two tracks with the same name but different sounds. I don't know if this was in the original VN, but at least it was in the Steam releases I played.

Edit: I don't really care if I don't see any track from the VNs in the anime... except for You. They really missed out on a great addition in the OG anime, I hope that this one uses it one way or another! It's easily the best track/leitmotif (as it's actually used in several different tracks) in the whole VNs.

Pretty sure that Steam Release, upon the patch switched up some stuff.
This song definitely was in the OG Bgm, but it was a Kai track.
The patch replaced some of the question arc tracks with the "better quality" Kai tracks.

And yeah there's no need for the anime to us the VN tracks, but there is some which would be very nice to hear. Then again, don't know how they would fit overall with the other anime bgms.

Well, the 7th-mod kind of does that, but not entirely. They say the files in the steam aka mangagamer version are different, so you can't backtrack completely to the original VN.

Still, I used the patch in the question arcs, chose not to install the remastered tracks, and I think it was fine. I don't think everything was reversed, so maybe I didn't get the original experience in a few parts, like the beginning of Tatarigoroshi, but for most of it, it did.

One thing I liked, believe me, is the original background, now if you swap to the original sprites pressing P, it has the original background too. The only thing I don't like in the original art is the hands. Apart from that, I like both Higurashi's and Umineko's original arts. I disliked at first, but after using for a while I got used to it. I never disliked Unimeko's though, I find it funny because they're relatives and their umineko faces make them even more alike.

Like mentioned above, 7th mod should have many levels of patching options.
Didn't use them for Higurashi back in the day so can only guess for that, but they worked well for my Umineko Answer arcs.

Friend suggested I'd throw in the voice patch, and haven't been disappointed so far. Tho at start it felt a LOT different. Can safely say Battler and Beato sounded like nothing I expected :D

I watched the anime before reading Umineko(also read it all before the first ps3 patch was even a thing) so it didn't feel weird at all. Not sure what people imagined of them before, lol.

But I was surprised by Ohara's voice range cause I only really noticed her acting as Irisviel in Fate Zero before.

Yeah, one day they just ran a patch (tbh I think it was april fools day), people the heck was this joke and just waited waited but it never got reversed.
No options to change, beside mod it/replace the files.

I at one time listened a bit these manga gamer BGMs on youtube and damn they're so different and don't fit anything in comparison ._.
(Not talking of the patch but the "OG Mangagamer OST")

Pretty sure that Steam Release, upon the patch switched up some stuff.
This song definitely was in the OG Bgm, but it was a Kai track.
The patch replaced some of the question arc tracks with the "better quality" Kai tracks.

And yeah there's no need for the anime to us the VN tracks, but there is some which would be very nice to hear. Then again, don't know how they would fit overall with the other anime bgms.

Yep, I distinctly remember that track playing during some Rena scenes in Tsumihoroboshi and it was chilling. I don't recall it appearing during the question arcs, though.

Well, I do remember Kenji Kawai adapted "Sword of Promised Victory" into the Fate/Stay Night anime, and then Yuki Kajiura adapted it again for Fate/Zero, and to be honest both versions rock and don't feel out of place compared to the rest of both soundtracks. So I hope that at the very least they incorporate the "You" leitmotif and that Kenji Kawai adapts it to fit more the style of the anime soundtrack. But I don't think it's going to happen.

That certainly seems to be better handled than the black holes in the middle of the scene. I mean, if you want so bad to censor a stab wound (which is neutralized by the sea of blood at the end of that scene), then do some trimming so that you can only see Rena stabbing from Keiichi's POV or something. They didn't have to do something so jarring.

Ok. So, is the Ooishi part and him being called Oyashiro's familiar new? The breakdown scene with Satoko was just gut wrenching. I actually felt despair watching her. Also, what all things are different from Deen's adaptation in this episode?

I don't exactly remember by what name he was called in original, but it was something similar.
Ment in a sense of him being a bad luck omen bringing forth the curse.

Satoko's freaking out like that in front of her classmates is distressing. It could only mean she was abused bad enough that she looked like she lost her sanity. If I was one of her classmates, I would be terrified of her. Sad to say.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

Alright, despite not having many changes here... Rika's straight face during Satoko's meltdown was suspicious to say the least.

Also, the Satoko's arc... is where I feel real psychological horror begins.
