I had my doubts when I saw those PVs but the animation wasn't so bad. Baby Binghe was super cute.

There are official subs on WeTV. You can watch one episode for free every week, the VIP just have one episode in advance.

I didn't expect too much from it because I already read the novel and it was not that great for me but... after watching the first ep I want to ask my past self a question "Am I out of my mind?" This is so awesome and I really regret for thinking that this was not upto my alley... Love it. Love the characters...

It was way better than expected, especially considering that they say that this one's MXTX's weakest novel (which isn't saying much since MXTX is basically an inmortal tbh). I can't wait to see the next one and possibly binge everything again once all chapters are out!

Greatly surprised by it, it's the first time I see a Donghua but it was quite entertaining and the animation was decent as well, tho I have trouble reading subs that fast...

'The story of a master and his disciple.'

Yeah, its suit well. Idk if anything can be turn out dirty at its end. But, i must said this: It surely looked alike the show that i watched from the previous season, with a reversed gender, ofc. Lol. What distinguished between this and that one was obviously that scumbag - and so troll - system that really annoyed my guy that get transported to that world, until he just surrender his scum life and finally tried hard to survived its plot. Oh, well, that was some real deal to be solved, dude. Lol

However, idk if i am too dumb or my brain just too slow to respond. But the fast track of their explanations at their long conversation was so unbearable for me. Fortunately, i somehow survived. Still, its need more than my normal view to actually understand the whole explanations. Lmao.

The plotline was easy to be following up. Eventhough, their story telling still unsatisfied at my understanding. Fortunately, this is just a 10 episode only series. So i don't need a serious mode to be attached for this kind of series. I must surely enjoyed my first ever chinese anime series at my list. Yeah! Lets move to the second episode, then!

I didn't expect this to be an isekai. lol.

The villain is so cute, and so is the protagonist. Though, I am kind of hoping those two aren't the ones who fall in love. Something about people falling for their teachers, doctors and therapists make me feel kind of weird.

The concept of a hater of a story becoming the villain and redeeming him to avoid getting tortured is quite interesting.

I found the subtitle really hard to read in the introduction. They spoke too fast! I had to slow down the video.

Didn’t expect to like the 3D animation so much, but once Binghe appeared I was !!!! Honestly wish he had fluffy hair though. I love the show so far, the system is just as I imagined. I hope they do justice to Mobei Jun!

that speaking in that 5 minute intro was a tad too quick for me to keep up. had to slow down the speed of the video *facepalm*

but it's an interesting concept where he's isekai-ed into a world of cultivation AS THE VILLAIN, but he can't do anything "out of character" for the villain or else he might die. the problem being, since he's the villain, he's going to suffer a terrible demise in the end...by the hands of his own student, which he's currently training/torturing. oof

how can you change your fate when you're not allowed to change it? lol

Literal garbage. Like watching animation from the 1970s. Dropped after Episode 1. My eyes hurt from how ugly and bad this thing is. Guess that's Chinese "animation", eh? :)

I finally bit the bullet and watched it, still sad to know there isn't any more after this, with season 02 stuck in censorship hell of China. It was not awful, though it took a bit to get used to the 3d style

@WienGirl Bait used to be believable gee

But anyway if you want a good looking Donghua then a low-ish budget 3d (from 2020) isn't going to be it. If you wanted something in a similar genre, try Mo Dao Zu Shi or Tian Guan Ci Fu-- both are quite superior in animation quality. the stories being from the same author actually.

@quercifolia

Agree with you on Tian Guan Ci Fu -- watched it twice, and it's still one of my favorites of the last few years -- but it's like night and day compared to Chuan Shu Zijiu Zhinan (I just can't with cheap Chinese animation, even when the story is good, it's just so damned ugly).

I just added Mo Dao Zu Shi to my list to watch (thanks for the nudge, I actually didn't think about there being an anime). Won't watch it yet, though, as I bought the book series and have only just finished Vol 1. Want to wait until I've finished the series before watching the anime (highly recommend the books, btw).

Don't know if you have also watched the Mo Dao Zu Shi live action series? -- The Untamed.

That was my gateway into Chinese fantasy drama, as it is beautifully done, and the main leads are phenomenal. And I am not normally good with 40 hour-plus episodes series, but couldn't stop watching this one.

@WienGirl

I didn't login for ages, but:

Agreed! Tian Guan Ci Fu is a visual treat for the eyes. Season 01 was pretty good but Season 02 really upped the ante as well (I still need to finish actually...)

MDZS has two series in fact, there's the main one, and a chibi style spin-off that's more comedic than serious (MDZS Q).

And, more recently, MDZS is being adapted to a new japanese manga, by yuzurin.

I originally saw The Untamed and TGCF s1 around the same time period and that's what got me into the Chinese drama, but especially danmei as well.

If you found the SVSSS story interesting, I would highly recommend the novels for that. There are 4 volumes, with one being extras, and so there isn't a huge time investment to reading it. On the surface, it's quite comedic, so I'd only warn that the main character is the poster child for the "unreliable narrator" trope.

I've read the first volume of the MDZS books!! but I kinda got burned out after the untamed, and didn't get far. Maybe time to pick up again now.

The Untamed is frankly gorgeous, I agree. Everything from costuming to cinematics is just 10/10.

@quercifolia

Thanks for all the comments.

And yep, agree with you on Chinese drama and danmei. Chinese dramas in particular are so beautifully filmed. Even superior to their Korean counterparts, IMO.

In fact, so obsessed have I become since I commented above, I am now the lowly owner of a WeTV (Tencent Video) VIP Annual Subscription (an amazing deal at only $49 for a year for all-you-can-watch Chinese), and have been watching hardly anything else but Chinese dramas and donghua for the last month :)

So much for me saying "I can't with cheap Chinese animation", eh? :)

I'm also spending a bloody fortune on just about every danmei Seven Seas Entertainment is currently publishing (I download the dodgy digital files first, so I don't have to actually READ the paperback novels as I don't want them damaging :), and then buy the physical copies at Seven Seas. They do such a lovely job of producing high-quality volumes with gorgeous cover illustrations).

Really loving that Seven Seas is going all-in on danmei as well -- I'm guessing they're hugely popular with the fast rate at which they're adding new series.

I am currently the proud owner of all The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation volumes, every volume of Guardian, all the Heaven Official's Blessings, all five of the Thousand Autumns, and the five volumes of Remnant's of Filth that are currently out.

Next ones I'll be grabbing when I'm next in the U.S. are the Ballad of Sword and Wine volumes currently out.

I also watched the Thousand Autumns donghua before reading the novels, which made them a lot more understandable -- not as confusing when it comes to the huge number of people's names.

https://wetv.vip/en/search?q=thousand+autumns

It's a well-done donghua but, due to the CCP suddenly deciding BL donghua can't be made (at least that's what I heard?), it will probably not get a Season 2.

Also just finished reading every volume of Thousand Autumns this week (finished the series in three days!). Highly recommend it. Loved, loved, loved the two protagonists, but especially Yan Wushi, the most arrogant man in Chinese literature :)

I also have Mo Dao Zu Shi on my list to watch next (probably this week) as, even though I originally said I prefer reading the books first, I think watching the donghua as well as the drama makes the books even easier to understand when you get to them.

Coincidentally too, I had just downloaded the Scum Villain's Self-Saving System after I watched the danmei (pretty decent when you get over the Chinese animation style :) -- and loved the main character! So thanks for the recommendation.

Yep, I'm pretty obsessed - 555555 (Thai for Hahahahaha).
