What do you mean? Her punishment is worse than death, even if she would die million times. She became what she hates and has to live with it for eternity. At this point, death would be a relief from her suffering.

Imagine that your government decides that oranges are now green (this is exaggerated example). It will be stupid for you, your kids and maybe your grandchildren but with each generation more people will believe it and eventually "oranges are green" will be commonly accepted "truth".
If you want more "grounded" example then read up how Hitler used propaganda to make the entire nation believe that Jews are evil-incarnate.
Royalty is this series works in similar way. They can't even imagine lowly person having that power so they will deny it even if they'll see it with their own eyes. They simply can't comprehend it with their minds.
