It's been almost 20 years since the last anime, why are they making a new one now?

"To commemorate its 25th anniversary in 2019"

And why not? I doubt it will be worse than season 2.

I guess the producers thought that this project might be financially viable considering the light novel boom in recent times.

Ha. Orphen was one the first anime I watched along with Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon. I'm laughing at randomly seeing a reboot pop up here.

I'll give it a shot for nostalgia's sake.

It does seem really odd that they are choosing to to a (sequel or remake?) of Orphen after all this time, but I am pumped for it! :) I enjoyed the first! :P

This is a new adaptation by the way, not a sequel.
The previous Orphen adaptation had a lot of filler and at one point just stopped all original content and went full filler. The entirety of Season 2 is filler.

Now that the novel series is complete, this will probably adapt the entirety of it as long as it's successful enough.

I liked the premise but I hated the damn series. Maybe the light novel/manga was better. I believe I tried this back when netflix did dvds or I watched some english sub its been that long.

:OOO I have to admit, this does bring back memories. I used to love the Orphen Mangas. Wasn't a huge fan of the anime though. Would be interesting to see how this develops.

Because if you understand WHY anime is made, it doesn't make any sense.

Anime is made (90% of the time) to advertise the source material (Manga, Light Novel, Game). In particular, series that are still running so they can sell more copies.

This series finished 20 years ago.

that logic work with the first adaptation but doesn't work for REMAKES
and you should understand why a remake is made ? when you understand that it will make total sense .

remake is made to bring back OLD thing that people liked , and they know they will make money because it's a classic and old fans will watch it .

fruit basket got a remake after 18 years
ushio no tora got a remake after +25 years
captain tsubasa got a remake after more than 30 years from the first adaptation.
dororo got a remake after 50 years, yes 50 f*cking years and it still made a huge success

this is the point of the point of remakes.

I'm actually very excited for the remake especially after watching the original. Well season 1 was great but season 2 can go burn in a fire. Cant wait to see the new adaption. Hopefully they bring the novels back.

im interested to see how this compares to the original (ignoring s2 since well its if I Recall correctly almost entirely anime original) this was one of my favorite animes back when its original season first released.

Looks awesome. Finally one of these shows that look like we missed out for so long. With the abundance of isekai some real fantasy with swords, magic and dragons is needed.

I'm surprised how much people hate season 2; I thought it was comedy gold...at least the dub was.

Never saw it subbed. xD Maybe it's boring that way.

Orphen was one of the first anime I watched over 15 years ago. Still nostalgically crosses my mind occasionally and have considered re-watching it since I feel like I could appreciate it more now. This reboot seems like good timing but then I watched the trailer and it looks awfully generic. The original trailer is much better. Don't know why they bothered rebooting it at all if they're not going to do it justice. Eh, will probably check it out for curiosity sake.

And it looks like this one is going to be even more hated given its current bad score.

with the original series the dub was way better. The original JP was somewhat bland, plus they added a shit-ton of filler etc etc.

scoring after only one episode is kind of pointless anyway. It's impossible to judge an entire series based off a single episode, after all...

6.57 isn't too terrible. Anything UNDER 6 is bad. xD And again, this is just the first episode.

I know, it's obvious, but anyway, in general, the final score of any series rarely is significantly higher than the initial one it gets, especially the ones that start under 7. This is not a good sign, though I hope it will recover in time.

It's going to be 14 episodes long.

By MAL standards, when something falls under 7.0 is because something really wrong went on, unless we're talking about obscure oldies, kids' shows, ecchi's or shorts.

or can be covered by blind followers and had 7.8/10 like Fairy Tail: Final Series for no logical reason.
(I remember when it had even score over 8/10 in some point) xD

I kind of miss the "not helpful" option. I used to rate those reviews like that because how can be helpful a review based in only 1 episode?!

Atm I don't see any hate. Just started to watch episode 1 (I'll give me comment in the thread later) and I probably will drop the series.

I still know the old series and this is really pretty generic.

I mean: There are tons of other decent shows nowadays that barely manage a 6.xx. Since a few yeasons (at least 1-2 years) I noticed that 6 is the new 7. Harder to get 7.xx (if you don't take the hyped stuff into account that always is overrated).

Anything higherr than 7.2 for this one here would be weird and unexpected.

Impressions are ok, but they shouldn't be scoring or reviewing, unless they watched around half. imo.

I think half is a reasonable amount to watch and decide if you like or not.

Of course exceptions exist if the anime is so bad you can't stand to watch past 1 episode... but a review is still not needed. scoring, yeah sure. Such as the DIABOLIK LOVERS anime.

Same here! Plus troll reviews got downvoted to heck. now someone will just see "x people found this helpful" and think that means it's an accurate review of the show. When in fact, it may be completely wrong.
