Another nice episode other than the fact touko was in it. from the previews it looks like shimako gives her rosary to her soeur soon. I can't wait for the episode where they go to an amusement park! if touko crashes their date and ruins it I will at most give this show an 8, and I was leaning towards a 10 before she showed up

Mod Edit: Fixed poll.

I absolutely love Shimako... she has been one of my favorites from the very beginning and Noriko complements her so perfectly...

Touko on the other hand makes me want to throw my computer out a window. This is still my favorite anime of all time, even with an awful character like Touko, because I want to see how her story develops as well.

And from what I remember the first time I watched this season when it first came out, she isn't too bad after a while.

I don't really understand why everyone was so freaked out about the Buddhist thing, and why they had to have Shimako reveal her secret in such an underhanded and bitchy way (imo)...

I just hate Touko. She is throwing the whole season off for me. I guess that is the point of her character... but even though I am glad to hear she will mellow, I really do wish she was hit by a car or otherwise erased instead.

Otherwise, good episode.

This is my first time watching the series, and I haven't looked for spoilers, so I can't say for certain how things will develop at this point. With the graduation of the Lady Roses and the promotion of their soeurs, there are now empty spaces for new characters, and unless there is a big surprise in a later episode, it looks like Noriko and Touko are destined for two of those positions. It will be interesting to see just how Touko gets into the group and into the position where I think she is headed; she is a very disruptive element so far. Noriko is also disruptive in her own way; she disregards the formality with which students refer to their seniors in this school, and her presence brought Shimako's issue to a head.

It's hard to imagine that anyone would like Touko as a person at this point, but she could develop into an interesting character depending on how her devious nature plays out and how her apparent rivalry with Yumi resolves itself. Before the departure of the seniors and the introduction of these new first-years, the group was very close knit, and all the girls were very nice. The new arrivals seem to throw the group off balance. This is fine with me; they aren't carbon copies of the existing characters, and their presence provides opportunities for the series to develop new story lines and keep from becoming stale.

When you think about it, the Roses were actually lucky Shimako was calm and understanding. If she had Yumi or Yoshino's personality, she would probably snap and leave the Yamayurikai right then and there after that stunt they pulled lol.

WTF was that? Medieval religion problem out of nothing and rude "solution"... Disgusting. Roses are real c**ts in this episode.

Seriously, Touko/Sachiko/Rei? There are better ways to make someone reveal a secret about themselves (for their own sake). If I was Shimako or Noriko I would have flipped shit and smacked Touko in the face right then and there.

Yeah I was surprised they'd do that. But they were doing it out of good will though, because Shimako was hurting herself by freaking out over the "secret". But the way Touko handled it was a no no. Felt like something a Strawberry Panic character would do, ugh.

Seriously, Yoshino would have bitchslapped everyone and then suffer a heart attack from rage.

I was somehow hoping Shimako would slap Rei and Sachiko for their bad taste stunt. In my opinion there were better ways to do that, totally putting both Shimako and Noriko on the spot.

One thing to take note of, Sachiko hates heights most likely. She told Yumi she was not getting on any rides.

This is the first episode of both seasons that I did not like. It was very heavy handed and full of self righteousness by the two Roses. Of course we all detest Touko at this point and hope for Divine Intervention in the form of a meteor on her head. Even Yumi was sort of an inert force in this episode and only worried that her "friend" was more comforted by another person. Shallow......but this is still my favorite "soft feels" series.

I was a bit confused as to how that would turn out. I mean, I know they were setting Shimako up to help her, but there were moments where it was awkward to watch Sachiko and company play the villain. As if they were going to cross the line and make it all backfire. It's also not surprising that Touko was able to play a villain so well considering how mean spirited she was to Yumi. I don't necessarily dislike her, she is making things interesting. Although at the moment she's the first character that doesn't feel layered or organic.

See my sentiments on this episode are shared by most. Forcing Shimako to share her secret with all the first years was completely unnecessary and could've backfired at several points, but for Shimako and Noriko good nature. Sachicko having no problems with Touka spying on Shimako and Noriko and also going through Noriko's belongings (for 'friendship") left a bad taste in my mouth.

Wonder if Rei or Sachiko would be as forgiving if one of their secrets was outed to the whole school "for their own good".

The whole eisode felt completely off-key, and Touko is the ONE character this series didn't need. I hope it doesn't get worse from here on.

I guess it was no big deal that Shimako was a Buddhist, after all that secrecy from her. Instead it made her and Noriko to be more closer.

Damn, this needs tangible romance, just saying.

This episode was definitely an interesting one, but I’m a bit conflicted with it, on one hand I think the way they went about having Shimako reveal her secret was kinda mean, I mean they didn’t even fully understand why she was keeping it a secret, and on the other hand I know they had good intentions and the result was good, but I could see that going wrong if it wasn’t for Shimako being so understanding.

At least we’re moving past this drama and going on to something else, and the episode had good moments so it wasn’t bad, just had mixed feelings. Also funny that people here seem to hate Touko lol, I kinda like her so far just because she shakes things up and has a unique personality compared to the other girls, but she was definitely mean spirited in this episode.

Shimako laughing was something new. With that weight taken off her shoulders, she may be a little more open around others now.

this ep was incomprehensible for me cuz im nonreligious
but for real
turns out theyre just a bunch of bullies
oh and i hate this sly stealing bitch so much, sachiko presents some double standard, she just let the theft slide, that bitch should be banned from coming near the fucking rose house thing for real
what is this scene holy shit theyre literally a bunch of bullies; its similar with the ep with the student teacher relationship thing; what was the goal of the writers? was this some sort of an embrace of secretly scheming against ur friends? digging deep into their lives and making some huge scene cuz u know whats better for them than themselves? holy shit what is this episode
and again fuck that sly stealing bitch holy shit i hate her so much such a punchable face
disappointed in all of the scheming roses for real extremely uncool

i was really hoping somebody should get a slap on their face, most of them actually

On one hand, Shimako spoke out her secret and discovered that everyone around her would still accept, befriend or even admire her. This should ease her mind a little bit.

On the other hand, the way they did it was abrupt and cruel and did't leave any room for maneuver. Forcing her to explain the issue in front of regular students was a step too far for a, if anything, reticent person like Shimako, in my mind. Things could go wrong at any points. That's said, this might be an introduction to Tōko's personal style.

In the end I would doubt if Sachiko and Rei's words could really lighten the darkened clouds in Shimako's mind. However, one thing Shimako had developed in the year she stayed by the side of Rosa Gigantea was to stay strong and stand on her own feet. Shimako showed her determination when she stepped in front of Noriko and admitted to the matter.

She then turned around, facing Noriko, and thanked her for covering for her. All in all, this episode presents a graceful and determined figure known as Shimako, but the way this episode sets up and resolves the issue is... inconsiderate to say the least.
