No offense but I KINDA hate the old designs as the body proportions are pretty off-putting to look off. It's extremely outdated to me.

I'm just putting my two cents here.

I feel the exact same way but for the "new" designs painfully lazy generic bland anime designs. I'd take the old school VN or OVA style over this garbage (in freaking 2019 for a classic series sigh)

Bruh, without YU-NO Visual Novel you wouldn't even have Steins;Gate and a whole lot of other VNs/eroges.

Well that's a big statement, if the anime turns out to be garbage I might have to check out the VN then.

This adaptation gets +1 to score for using Fumihiko Tachiki voice. Sadly he seems to be the only one from the original cast.

OK first episode, everything was highly expected things felt a little bit rushed and all over the place and some questionable things like how did the dad break through the house twice in a row, why did that teacher or whatever he is (clearly the bad guy of the anime) pull out his gun on his student right away when he barely tried to convince him and wat kind of a dead reaction was that from his mom (or stepmom i guess)

I still have no idea on what's going on like who the hell was that elf girl?, and is this an Isekai anime, but the MC gets Isekaid into a parallel universe that is exactly the same as his world but just a little bit behind in time? or is he simply travelling back in time. did he even travel back in time?

This was a hentai O-O??

What is the surprise that this comes from a hentai? Fate started being a hentai (which was later removed in the Realta Nua version) Utawarerumono started being a hentai and the same with Tears to Tiara.

And by the way, some should see this lol

A shame they didn't use the animated sequence they did based on the game's intro, showed as a PV half a year ago:

The atmosphere in it was top notch with the spooky lighting, Koudai's glasses flashing and all.

I question the wisdom of starting any show with a long shot of space and a baby crying. Then again, I was pretty sure I heard a voice recording error a couple minutes in, and not long thereafter, two people were standing in a dark room talking when the door to a brightly lit hallway opened, but the room remained totally dark. Yes, that was something that bothered me. It had just done about a ten second slow zoom of a diorama sitting on a table. In short, it leaves plenty of time for the mind to wander, especially since the entire episode is just a tour of nondescript characters. How nondescript? There's a girl voiced by Kugimiya Rie and she sounds like a normal person instead of a shrieking banshee Oz munchkin. The protagonist isn't the worst, and is from a better age when they were actually allowed to have something approaching a personality, but that's offset by the rest of the cast being far more dull. But then we get to the magical mystery widget, disasters in the distance aaaand… it's back to a tour of characters for another quarter of the episode.

Mabe it's that the visuals and direction are just so unambitious and static that make it so dull, but easily 75%, if not more, of this episode is just the dude bumping into people, mostly of the harem variety, so the story is spending all its time doing pre-flight checks too. It could be worse (well, it could always be worse), in that we don't have a nonstop internal narration describing and redescribing each of their salient traits, background, bloody type, three sizes, and dental history, but I'm not ready to award it any points for that. Setup not only can, but should happen during the commission of an actual story, not exist solely for setup's sake, and that's where this episode struggles. The magic girlfriend? Traveling through time? That's the cliffhanger tease for next week.

Okay, other than a couple of pervy and/or stupid moments (which are about par for the course for a VN adaptation, as we should all know after years of them), this was a pretty decent first episode. It's not entirely clear what's going on (other than something to do with parallel dimensions), but it's not overwhelmingly confusing and suspense is being built well so far. I'm definitely keen to see where this is going.

Loved the first episode. I didn't think I would like the new designs, but they actually fit well with the tone and atmosphere when put in motion.

Also I lol'ed at Takuya having a moped, I don't remember him having that in the original video game. But I like the addition nonetheless.

Been rewatching the OP for a great many times since yesterday morning, as well as rewatched the episode to see what little details I could catch from having already played the game.

Also I enjoy that they included the old music. I noticed a few of them seem like new songs, but when listening closer it seems like it was just the old songs redone.
Signature:
I prefer comedies, horror, hentai, and combinations of such. Anime with a lack of fan service is a disservice.

Way tooo generic and toooo underwhelming. Don't know whether I want to episode 2 or not. The main char seemed annoying with all the girls liking him (that part time teacher female) and his behavour (especially when transfer girl came to the school classroom).

Seems pretty much the usual setup: New girl and stuff which gets the guy suddenly involved in something where the girl seems to know more.

Guess I'll drop and wait for it to finish or at least reach episode 12/24. (If not people with knowledge abouit the visual novel source know more and can promise a super interseting plot.)

VN community and the amount of fetishes it cover.

But if just the problem they all have with the game (the original version of 1996) is that the porn on the routes of the girls and some scenes in the epilogue are totally redundant. In the port of Saturn and in the Remake have remained only the need for the plot (as incest)

Seeing that it will have 26 episodes, the normal thing is going to be that the first 13 episodes are the routes of the girls and the rest will be the whole epilogue where everything is resolved

I like how a retro feel is kind of bubbling up under the surface even though it looks contemporary as all hell. Unlike some other 'asshole' characters at least this MC shows some sort of emotion and is fun to watch.

VN source reader here, the plot will blow your mind more than Steins;Gate. I liked the visual novel for YU-NO more than I did Steins;Gate if that's any indication.

The story here is fantastic and the adaptation is so far very good. I liked how they condensed the prologue into one episode because it seemed to drag on for too long in the visual novel (i.e. way more stupid slice of life moments with crude humor). It seems as though they're cutting out a lot of the boring slice-of-life and sexual humor moments to focus on the plot heavy, which is great news obviously because the plot is incredible. Anything I say regarding the plot though could be considered spoilers really, so please just take me at my word that this is worth the watch.

Aight boys, I'm here to stay. If you're one to get annoyed by someone adamantly defending a show/correcting people's misunderstandings/telling people to chill out, you're not going to like me very much but then again, you'll see how wrong you are when this is all said and done.

To add onto my previous post, THE SHOT PRESENTATION IS KEY.

If a shot is focusing on something specific, it might be important or plot relevant. A panning still shot while characters are talking doesn't ncessarily mean they didn't have the budget to animate a scene, it may be foreshadowing something in the future. VERY VERY PLEASED with how they presented the scene shots.

You shoooooould be confused, it's not supposed to make much sense until you start getting more information to piece the parts together.

This is a classic mystery story, where certain parts of the mystery will slowly be uncovered, and you can actually attempt to solve what's going on at a certain point. I figured out maybe 60% of what was going on as I was reading and my mind was still blown when certain things were revealed.

A bit weird that someone is talking about 13 episodes being about different girls and the other 13 episodes about epilogue. I mean an epilogue would not be that long?

And if they really did different "arcs" with different girls then I guess this already was one of those bad-style visual novels. (Thought since it was older it would have been without that "different routes" crap - or at least only 1 route - "true route"m getting adapted.)

Does seem even less interesting to me now. But I'll watch the scores, threads and the mood on MAL (in the forums/threads) every now and then. Since I have a different taste then most people I guess in the end I'd be of the opinion "source readers hyped it too much" again.

(I really did not like Steins;Gate that much and all the other anime with the ; in the name and I thought season 2 of Steins;Gate was a bit better. While most people liked S1 more and hyped it way too much ... 7ish anime with 9+ score on MAL. Robotics;Notes was best of the ;-anime. Still only 7 for me.)

I consider visual novels to be the worst to adapt from. Manga and LN the best. (Some time ago when I did not know all the too generic VNs which got popular recently I preferred LN, now it is manga.) Original depends heavily on the studio/staff - can be some of the best anime all the time. Or totally crap.

I liked Higurashi less than most people. (And preferred S2 even though most people prefer S1.) I think Utawarerumono and Umineko are the only VNs where I know VN + the anime. (I barely read VNs.) Loved Umineko but as anime ... didn't really work well. Some stuff I guess works better as visual novel because they have a different feeling.

The routes aren't traditional style, meaning the story is told linearly. You don't "end up" with any of the girls in the visual novel, except for the possibility of in the "true route" which is the epilogue.

Think of the epilogue as Clannad After Story, which was the same length as the entire first season of Clannad. The epilogue here is so crucial to the story, it's just titled "epilogue", but is basically the same importance and almost the same length as the first half of the game which are the character 'routes', for lack of a better word.

Anyway, that was just my first impression and this anime didn't give me a good one, I don't care how good the source might be, it doesn't mean the adaptation will be undeniably good. Only time will tell.

(nobody cares how good the novel is, if the anime looks retarded i wont go out of my way to check the LN or VN)

1) Quoting an entire post that length is obnoxious, please don't do that.
2) I never told anyone to read the visual novel, looks like you really can't read.
3) You're stupid for calling something trash based on one episode.
4) Sounds like you're the one triggered.
5) Have a nice day!

Show me where I told you to read the novel, I dare you. I never once said that. Again, you can't read.

Looking forward to the moment where you go back up to my post only to realize you misread what I said, and never respond to this because you realized you were wrong.

But if you can accept the fact that you misread what I said and were wrong, an apology would be nice!

I already realized when I wrote that, that I misread it lol, but still, I wont go play the light novel or read the visual novel just to see that its actually good. Just saying, accept that the first ep looked retaded and the MC is an ass.

Good, I never asked you to read the visual novel so I don't care what you decide to do, now go away and stop being a numbnut if you have nothing constructive to say.

Well, if they keep up the nonsensical dirty talks out of nowhere like that, I'm going to drop pretty soon.

Yes, I pointed that thing about her clothing, but my red flags aren't just that, that's my point.

I don't recall ever saying it was 'just that', I specifically was talking about the red flags you mentioned in your post. How can I possibly address potential 'red flags' that you didn't even mention?

You were only referring to her clothing when you first quoted me, unless you are also taking the "Complete asshole towards girls" part as something that will "make sense" later, which wouldn't make sense because if that's the major plot points you spoke of, then this anime might seem worse than I thought.

Anyway, I do hope this gets better like you say it is. All I know, is that this is somewhat related to an old Hentai.

I will try to tell it without spoilers because it is part of the plot

-The game creates a save point where the protagonist will always return in time unless a problem is solved and that way the paths of the characters are created, the idea is to complete all the routes to unlock the epilogue that follows the story, within this there are a lot of divergences that give many different conclusions (including extra ends of the New Game +)

Now why is the epilogue so long? The original idea of the game was to have an epilogue of a few hours, but this idea was discarded and in the end they got an epilogue that originally were even longer than all the routes together but had to shorten it due to lack of time. The epilogue is the most important part of the plot and is where the plot twits that everyone loves.
