That guy's stand involves some sort of way to manipulate the outcome....

Jotaro better seriously think outside the box if he wants to get out of this one.

Well, I was right to doubt Joseph's victory though I was still leaning towards him winning. Oh well, I love how the outcome came, precisely because it wasn't because of his stand. D'Arby just used really smart tactics. This upcoming game should be interesting & Jotaro is definitely winning, Avdol isn't going to be saving them (maybe a returning Kakyoin but I doubt it). The moment where Jotaro read off the order of cards was bad-ass.

His gambling-specific abilities and eeriely sharp specific memories made me think that he's a figure that's more like the devil even more so than the Stand user of the Devil himself. His very calm demeanor and the whole taking your soul after a verbal contract bit gave it away too.

Joseph's still a cheat like the good old days and Jotaro's impressed by his grandpa's craftiness that utilizes tense water tension action.

I was tired when reading this and I thought it may hinder my ability to concentrate but this chapter made me lose my mind and get totally excited. And it’s one of those chapters I don’t know where to begin talking about, so I’ll first speak about D’arby’s presence and the nature of this game.

D’arby’s stand is one made to gamble with the highest stakes possible and that speaks to itself. He does enjoy the thrill of the game, and he is good at gambling and cheating from how it seems. In a way, his confidence reminds me of Steely Dan’s introduction, knowing he can’t be touched and drinking coffee while surrounded. But D’arby, like the devil incarnate, feels more mature. I believe his gamblers pride, I don’t think he’s going to crack and beg. He has a presence I adore and he steals attention, along with his gosh darn book of poker chip souls!!! D’arby, you got to be in my favorite Stardust Crusaders villains already, I suppose I should wait to see how this turns out, but I believe he will enter the ranks of: Hol Horse, Anubis, Alessi, and N’Doul.

As for the nature of this fight, it’s not even a fight?! I mean, one may ask, what if they choose a gamble such as: Let’s hit each other with our fists and see who gets knocked out first? Jotaro may win that but I do believe D’arby would have something up his sleeve. And this high tension gambling chapter spoke for itself. If Jojo is willing to do battles with the villains like this, a game of wits, composure, skill, and cheating, then Jojo can be about anything it wants with its conflict and it makes me more excited than ever.

As for how thrilled I was, I must preface this by saying the way I read Jojo is by alternating a Fukumoto Nobuyuki manga I’ve yet to read and the next sequential Jojo part. And if anyone knows what Fukumoto is renowned for, one of such things is gambling manga. So, obviously I am going to enjoy this kind of high stakes, walking on the line of life and death, full of cheating and conditioning. And Joseph, my husbando in his old form, had my eyes glued to the page as he pushed everything off the table with pure confidence to save his friend and sat down with a challenge. Joseph is a cheater full of tricks, we saw this in all of his Battle Tendency fights, and in the brief glimpse of gambling for pride that we saw between him and Caesar where he had cards up his sleeve. So it’s no surprise that he would challenge this demon to a game he knew well, cheat after the risky maneuver D’arby did, all while constantly and purposefully using the wrong names to get into his head. All of which made Jotaro impressed. However, with how Joseph is the first to play, I do not think he can win which is scary because he, on paper, is the best chance they have. So, I look forward to seeing how D’arby defies the laws of physics next chapter.
