THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
An episode that focuses more on Narancia. Cool.

Formaggio showed up this episode and I actually kinda like his personality considering how chill he is. Pretty thrilling action this episode and for an assassin, Formaggio is still a dangerous individual to watch out for.

Jun Fukushima confirmed as the VA for Formaggio. Nice to see appearances of the others too.

I was expecting Narancia's backstory today, not La Squadra's. Or the butcher, for that matter. What a pleasant surprise; almost that whole episode was anime only content.

Also, Ghiaccio is Bakugo and that's hilarious.

The Hitman group is trying to figure out he boss's identity or take over his territory only get two crew mates killed as a warning not to mess wit him. Dang dude, I somewhat knew Mafias or gangs tend to be very strict, seeing how the boss sent a message that is silent yet deadly, just gives me an idea how dangerous it is to break a rule or oath in a Mafia or gang.

Great episode. This fight was really thrilling in the manga, Narancia's Stand power was revealed.

La Squadra's backstory was real nice, it gives a glance of how menacing Big Boss is, which is good because he lacked that in the manga. At this rate

La Squadra: Man, Formaggio, your Stand really sucks. It sure is useless.

Formaggio: -instantly kills a guy by making him swallow a car and regrowing it inside of him-

I know that's an anime addition, but how is that even REMOTELY useless? Everyone has to eat or drink, and he can shrink the object down to the point that they wouldn't even notice it.

Yeah, I'm really curious how they're going to handle him.

I think by "useless" they were referring more to direct combat ability. I mean, Little Feet hasn't exactly shown itself to be good in a straight-up fight, after all.

As an assassination tool, however... I will admit I had to basically look away for a bit, I'm very sensitive to that kind of scene.

This is probably the best episode for now. La Squadra's backstory is a nice addition and butchered body thankfully wasn't looking like a black turd. Too bad we have to wait for the best part of this fight.

Well, I suppose not, but its been able to block gunfire from Aerosmith at least. Granted, Aerosmith has been shrinking, so maybe that's the only reason why.

5 stars for the animation alone. Was alot better than the previous 3-4.
But I think the direction could be a bit better. The flashback of the hitmen came out of nowhere and the transition to it was so sudden.

It's pretty much explicitly stated by Formaggio himself towards the end of the episode. that the only reason he's surviving as long as he is is because Aerosmith is shrinking as Narancia does.

La Squadra's debut. So many future antagonists here. We got to see Gelato and Sorbet's attempt to unmask Passione's boss and paid for that in a pretty cruel way. Narancia vs Formaggio keeps being entertaining.

Holy fuck, I didn't expected the show to introduce the Assassination Squad
as a whole at this point. I think it was a good change, since they established their team properly. Was glad to see so many familar voices coming from them (Nobukiho Okamoto, Ken Narita, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Subaru Kimura...). Also, surprised they didn't censored Sorbet's death, it was gruesome as heck. If you fuck with The Boss, he's gonna fuck you harder.

Formaggio's power also is pretty useful for a killer, he's basically Ant Man with only the shrinking/return things to it's original size power. How he killed that dude was pretty cold.

I thought the battle would end here, but this flashback was great to watch. DavidPro is making this Part even better.

If you're involved in the Mafia, don't break the rules. It's definitely not worth it. Holy shit, Sorbet and Gelato got FUUUUUCKED up, and just for trying to find out who the Boss was.

It was cool to see the other members of the Assassination Squad, and Narancia's fight against Cheese Formaggio continues to entertain.

LA SQUADRA, he you guys go, this is the best antagonist group in JoJos, and they will provide easily the best fights the anime has seen so far. After the anime is finished, we will have a lot more p5 fans, David Production is truly making this part a masterpiece.

Also Narancia's theme is way too good, we are finally stopping the reuse of Giorno's theme and getting to the juice.

And these, are my thoughts:

1. I was sure they would throw in a flashback in this episode, since that is being the usual up until now, one episode, introduction, and the next, the flashback. Episode 4 is the only exception. And again, it was misplaced.

2. In my opinion, it doesn't seem proper to introduce a new cast in a flashback, since flashbacks are normally used to reveal information and fleshing out the characters, and we don't really learn more about Formaggio in it, since all we needed to know about what he was and what he is trying to do, it was already told.

3. About the assassination group in which two members tried to investigate the boss and were killed for it, no much to say since that is the normal thing to happen when you are a powerless member and try to uprise. And how can we care about two characters who died before even meet them? And show the dismembered body of one of them? It's just shock-factor, the only thing we will remember about him is that he was ripped to pieces.

The Sorbet and Gelato stuff was told during this fight in a flashback in the manga, so the point is to give an idea of how much of a thread the Boss is. So this is expanding upon a flashback that was already there.

You think the episode is great when they did the mistake of throw in a flasback in the middle of a battle?

I said the shock-factor from the perspective of the viewer, because in none of the previous parts a dismembered body was presented in the same way this part did it in this episode.

And by the way, we know they will fail to kidnap Trish, because if they achieve it, we know what it will happen to the main cast.

Are you serious? this is like how most shonens work anyway, doesn't mean we shouldn't care about the antagonists just because they will fail.

It wasn't a mistake, it transitioned from start to the end quite well in a creative manner too. The direction was top notch and so was the usage of OST/color especially which made the whole backstory scene for the squad work tremendously at setting them up for the rest of the part. It's a lot better then the whole practically-faceless-mook scenarios in part 3.

1. You're making clear that they don't care about the quality of the presentation.

2. Just because that kind of things work in most shonen, doesn't make them good. And man, how do you think we will care about a group of characters who will probably be killed before we can even remember his names or personalities?

3. If I was making complains, I would have said things like:
"Why do you find this episode good when his direction is bad? " or
"Why do you find Giorno's backstory is good when he did nothing by its own about being bullied and mistreated by his father-in-law"? or
"Why did you expect the manga line of "And Giorno Lied" when it's clearly shown that he was lying anyway"?

In fact, if you see the posts of episode 6, you will find that many were complaining about the dance not being shown in that episode. And what did I say? I stated that there was no point in complaining about something that could have been not shown.

So, what I'm really doing is trying to point out things that I find to be done wrong in the show.

For example, Giorno's flashback could be placed after his battle with Bruno, and that would be the perfect place because we would first know his objective and then see why he wants to achieve it. For Abbacchio's flashback, after the battle with Mario. And for Mista's flashback, the same, after the battle he had with the guy whose stand can set things in a point and we don't know his name.

On the other hand, do you remember the flashback of Episode 5 where Bucciarati was talking with Mrs.Menini? That's the only one that is well placed.

Shaskavalier said:

You said it, it was a required scene, but not at the right time.

Shaskavalier said:

Well, I said it in that way, because the way it was presented was showing one of them dead, then the body of the other dismembered, and then showing how they both died. Out of that, I agree with you.

Shaskavalier said:

You're forgetting something. How did Buccarati hide Polpo's treasure? With his stand ability. So in the case the assassination group find the place they are hiding Trish and go there to try to kidnap her, he would simply hide her inside a wall.

Such a sharp episode.

What was more interesting for me was the back story of the Hitman team, they sure are an ambitious bunch. I guess trying to find out the boss's identity ends you in a body bag, Sorbet and Gelato found out in a gruesome way. The horrific display of their murder was disturbing for real, having to choke on your death after watching someone you know being hacked to death, Damn!! This guy should write a horror flick. What's funny is that they are still continuing with their betrayal.

Based DP! Kinda blown me away with the filler part of La Squadra. So excited to meet every single one of them this early, especially Aniki & Risotto. (Love their reactions when they saw Melone’s hentai expression, lmao.)
Narita Ken-san is the VA of Illuso! It will so make me like him more than I should.

The Sorbet & Gelato part is very fluidly involved in the anime addition part. (It’s also confirmed that they are a couple, lol.) I always thought it’s the boss who committed killing when I was reading the manga. It’s actually those two guys? Well, makes sense tho.

The backstory not only helps to weaken the monster of the week feels and build familiarity with the villains, but also shows the motivation for their betrayal of the organization. And they all got the lesson that the boss is not to be fucked with.

On a side note, I think DP is probably gonna show the Hitman team in the upcoming new OP. So that may also be one of the reasons that they need to show La Squadra now.
(Also I didn’t expect to be able to change my signature this early, lol~)

Back to Narancia’s battle~
He looks so badass & swag when Aerosmith is crushing the glass door. The detection functionality is the icing on the cake. I love how both the protagonists & the antagonists in part 5 use their wits during the battles.

Hands down a 6/5 episode!
