THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So we get to know more about Ikumatsu’s dad and why he ended up having another family. It seems like he lost his memories while saving a drowning kid and forgot about his old family. And the drowning kid happens to be Ikumatsu’s husband.

Seems like the cardboard gang is attacking Ikumatsu, lol. And Ikumatsu’s actual father is actually the Lawd himself. LMAO at Katsura and Gin using the old man and Madao as a weapon.

Ikumatsu and her father finally got to reunite. Lol, If Katsura got a crew cut, that would be hilarious. Anyways, this was a really good episode and definitely more serious than the previous episode.

Make sure to watch the after ED scene, which starts the Madao one-shot. Next episode will adapt the rest of the Sniper/Madao one-shot and the Mimawarigumi/Shinsengumi one-shot

Also, the OP really grew on me. It's actually pretty catchy. The ED, however, is still meh.

Just leave it to Gintama to give you a good bucket of feels to making you burst your ass laughing at the same damn time.
This was quite the sad arc, I dont remember reading this in the manga so the feels caught me harder.
This was quite the tragic story, kinda like one of those trendy FB videos that makes you cry.

So it was really him after all. He has been around for so long too.
Lol at Zura using the old man as a weapon; Hasegawa was expected.
Overall this was a very nice arc, both in terms of laughs and feels.

The Lawd being Ikumatsu's dad was expected, but the rest wasn't quite so. Regardless, this was pretty good ep, as usual, 10/10.

That ending tho, next ep will be so fucking good. Looking forward to it.

He lost his memories when he saved a kid from drowning. That kid later married his daughter, he found the old man and brought him to the ramen shop every New Year's to eat with his daughter like he used to do when they were poor, and even though he had lost his memories he still remembered to divide his dish for everyone...Shit, stop trying to make me cry Gintama...

Next episode finally Nobume-chan 😍😍

A really serious episode with a lot of feels for good measure. I'm happy Ikumatsu got to reunite with her dad in the end (it wasn't surprising that he survived but it was still touching).

Right after all of those feels we get a post-ED scene featuring hilarious banter between Madao and a sunglasses sniper. More Madao next episode, plus the Shinsen/Mimawarigumi......should be really funny.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Beautiful episode, so emotional. I kept tearing up. T.T

The story was both really tragic and yet really heartwarming. Ikumatsu's father lost his memories in trying to save a drowning kid, ended up marrying another woman and eventually became memory impaired and senile. Meanwhile the kid he saved grew up and married Ikumatsu and eventually found the father and invited him for ramen every New Year's eve. Through all those years the father still remembered to divide his food. T.T
The entire story from the flashback was incredibly moving especially the scenes where the husband thanks the father for saving him and the parts showing Ikumatsu also knowing that the old man who visited was actually her father. The reunion at the end was really heartwarming. Leave it to Gintama to make me feel so emotional in 2 episodes.

Gin-san and Katsura using Madao and the father as a weapon was hilarious. XD
The post credit scene was epic. xDD

I personally loved the shot with our main characters walking away in the snowy night.

genuinely really heartwarming but also made sure its few jokes all struck effectively. More so than ever I am so upset that this series never made ikumatsu a recurring character, shes fits in so well with the characters and her and katsura's relationship is really cute. Its nice that she basically had some closure before the series wraps up for good. These past 2 episodes were so much stronger than the kind of weak first 2 episodes with the boyfriend arc.

Also thank god the animation is so much better than the past few seasons, i pray silver soul stays this way cause while not totally in your face the movement in this episode was way above the past couple seasons especially when gin and katsura were flinging the dad and hasegawa around.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

I wonder for Silver Soul if there going to take the SA approach(having some amazing looking episodes...but some have to be heavily sacrificed) or FS/RDB approach(spreading the production time on the episodes) Either way I think Silver Soul has to be 2 cour(straight) and it's a Comedy and Serious arc...so we'll see how they'll do in the future

I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S IKUMATSU'S DAD.
Plot twist much. And the kid he saved was her husband :o

Also, I don't think any other anime has the ability to yo-yo my feelings so much in an episode. There I was crying at Ikumatsu's reunion with her dad, and then I'm laughing my ass off at a hitman telling a suicidal Madao how precious life is whilst he's about to snipe a guy down.

This arc made me want Katsura x Ikumatsu even more, but at the same time I love how they did the opposite with it. Like, it would've been so easy for the romantic aspect to take up the arc, and for Katsura to save her and sweep her off her feet. But her dad saved her just like he saved her husband. So sweet.

Totally happy about having a Madao + Shinsengumi episode next week! It's been such a long time!!!

I was...somewhat disappointed in this episode.

I enjoyed half of the episode because it was very emotional and impactful, but when they revealed who the father was, it was somewhat...meh? It felt to me like the author just picked out a side side character with no backstory and decided to create something deep about them anyway. I shouldn't have expected anything much out of an anime like Gintama since it is a comedy show to begin with and not just a feels-good anime. The poignant backstory + an eccentric hobo in diapers didn't do the overall story justice for me.

Madao Beyblade, and Ginotki as the ceter was hilarious.

But this episode reminds us why Gintama is a great show, it has action, amazing humour, and a lot emotion, that isn't found in most anime.

Gintama: The anime that might even make you cry by giving a backstory to a random retarded homeless guy who's been around since the beginning of the series, and seemed like some random side character who's only there for the gags. And in the meantime, among the tears, it makes you laugh your ass off.

Obviously there are so many other stories in Gintama which are way better than this one, but it still amazes me after so many episodes how well-written stories they provide to the fans.

And yeah, I'm also aware of the fact that it's nothing new, this has already been shown in the manga, but still really nice.

At the end I the irony killed me. "don't waste your life away by killing yourself, life is very precious" *sets up sniper stand*. I'm in love with this show!!!

That was the best episode of the season so far to me! Didn't have the fast pacing issues like the last episode for me, and it had some great quotes and feels. Plus it had Gintoki bearing people up, using hasegawa. Which is wonderful.

This was one of the arcs I wanted to get animated the most, so I'm really happy it did. I'm a fan of Katsura x Ikumatsu, so I hope we get a few hints that they ended up together before the manga comes to an end.

Can't wait for next episode too. I'm glad they're making some room for Hasegawa's chapters among all the longer arcs they're animating!
