This episode was beautiful ;_;

The flowers and cherry trees gives a sense of hope with the grim story so far. Kane crying was a rare sigh to see, didn't expect that tbh. 2 more episodes...left. Now it really makes me curious what they do plan to do with the rest of the show especially with that ending.

The Second Unit are desperately trying to protect Ryoma from the Shinsengumi. Kane crying when he saw Hijikata again was sad. I hope Horikawa doesn't do anything dumb. He doesn't know what to do if he met Hijikata.

Kane and Horikawa have it hard. They have the opportunity to protect their master's future but they can't because of their duty.

Hope Horikawa doesn't do anything stupid.

I didn't like this episode too much, but the backgrounds were beautiful with the transition from dusk to evening/night.

Did Horikawa just calll himself a Touken Danshi in the preview?... That feels kinda wrong.

Probably the weakest episode thus far, in my opinion.

I did enjoy the show exploring the moral dilemmas associated with the power to protect or alter the past.

It's just a preview, they are just commenting or recapping what happened on the previous episode

If that's not considered canon then it's alright.

Why does it feel wrong though? He is after all a sword spirit who has been given a human form by the saniwa.

I could be wrong, but I think that mostly females use the word "danshi" to refer to males. Idk a masculine equivalent in English but it's similar to how only males would refer to females as "chicks".

Ohhh, idk how much you're into tourabu but both fans and even the swords tend to refer to themselves in this way. I have taken a small quote from the wikia in case you'd like to read it ^^
"Danshi (男士) means 'men', but is pronounced the same as 男子, which means 'boys'. Taking both of these parts into account, touken danshi can be interpreted to mean any kind of male sword."
Using "otoko" or smth would be a bit weird since there are some swords which have the form of a child...

Such a pretty episode...I say that almost every week about this show but this time it was the setting that made it so stunning! Sad seeing the conflict over protecting history or giving their former master a life that isn't filled with misfortune and hardship...Kane's tears say it all
I shall rule over the realms of anime and manga! Mwahhahahahaha!!!

Weakest? Pls. It show their internal conflict between protecting history vs protecting their old master. It was beautiful. I nearly cried when Izuminokami cried.

I felt that it was weak because the continuation from last week felt uninteresting - I never really felt like Mutsunokami's old master was in any real danger.

As I said, I really enjoyed the moral conflict that was presented. I just didn't feel like the context in which it was presented was all that interesting.

If you know what the Shinsengumi would do to Ryoma if he was caught, you will realize how dangerous the situation was. The demon vice chief Hijikata is dangerous. The scene switched back and forth between Ryoma, the Shinsengumi and our Toudan was breathtaking.

That is wrong. Japanese doesn't have those specific words one gender use to prefer the other gender. "Danshi" here can be used by both male and female. It is a more formal and polite word that is not usually used in everyday conversation. Normally, you can just use "ano hito","kare" or "kanojo" for girl. "Danshi" means young man as oppose to "Dansei" means adult man. Equivalent for girl is "Joshi".

This episode is pretty slow, but interesting. It seems like slowly, each one of them are seeing their previous masters. Jeez. I want to hug Izuminokami so bad when he started crying. Poor baby.

Good episode.

Ugh. I really love the vocals of Kalafina!

P.S. Most of the time, I'm confused watching this show definitely because of the references from the game which I have no idea since I've never played the game, or am I wrong here like should I watched a prequel of this show? Haha. No worries, I'm still enjoying this show.

It is actually doesn't contain many references to the game. I think most people are confused because of the historical knowledge that most Japanese know and was taught at school. The swords and their masters are famous in Japan. Reading historical facts about the swords online is pretty interesting. Like Horikawa Kunihiro is likely not existed anymore because he was dumped into the ocean by the Allies after WW2.

Oooh thanks. I thought I had to watch a prequel of this show or at least be knowledgeable about the game to fully understand the story of this show. Hihi. Thanks.

Isn't it obvious that he would be executed on the spot? Given how the Shinsengumi operated. If you watch enough anime and drama, you know the Shinsengumi killed many rounin that opposed the Bakufu like in the Ikedaya incident. The show doesn't need to tell you that since this is common knowledge. The Shinsengumi protected the Bakufu while Ryoma opposed it, Ryoma was the one united Satsuma and Choshuu to overthrow the Shogun. You don't know about the Shinsengumi?

I watched a lot of anime in the late 90's and early 2000's when I was probably too young to understand all of the political implications and things like that. Due to lack of time, I stopped watching except for a very few shows. Within the last year or so, I started watching anime again in earnest.

All of that to say that no, I don't really know anything about the Shinsengumi. That would probably explain why the episode didn't really resonate with me in that regard.

Horikawa and Kane-san are one of my favorites ever since I started with TR in 2015 but I kind of want to see how bad things can become. Sadly I think Ufotable lost it's edge so maybe it'll be completely solved by the next episode.
Voice acting was stellar in the last 5 minutes.

I see. With these kind of anime, you need some historical knowledge. The Shinsengumi is insanely famous in Japan and with anime watchers. There are many series based on them. The most realistic one I found is Kaze Hikaru. Some other series are Peacemaker Kurogane, Hakuoki, Gintama, Rurouni Kenshin and Hijikata is in Drifters.
The Shinsengumi is a police force that extremely loyal to the government but at the same time, most the civilians fear and resent them for their brutal killing of those opposed the government. Hijikata was nicknamed demon vice chief because he was strict and rather cruel . He created the Shinsengumi code and the ones broke the code would have to commit Seppuku

Ah, I see. The episode does carry more weight with that knowledge. Of those you listed, the only anime that I ever watched was Rurouni Kenshin, and only infrequently. I'll definitely look into the others, though.

Thanks for the explanation!

One of the reasons I loved the last dialogue a f*ckton I might say, Kane-san was created because Hijikata demanded for it, he was created to make a strong pair with Horikawa. Now that he has his own body and will it's almost sounds like he's rejecting Hijikata's way of loyalty even if he spent years with him. He has HIS own way of loyalty.

Anyway,
Horikawa was with Hijikata for longer than Kane-san, even if his initial thought was to save Hijikata from his destiny, he finally saw Kane-san let his feelings out and decided to protect him from his sadness. I don't know if it was someone at Ufo or Nitro who wrote these things but I think they're pretty good nuances.

Kane-san is being disonest to Kunihiro :( I think Kanesada doesn't want to show his weak side to Horikawa... Both of them are hesitating to see Hijikata for some reason. Its's difficult to both of them :/

This episode is getting too emotional D: Just what in the world are you doing, Kunihiro? Where are you going??
