Oh, but Gon is purposely created to be overshadowed by the other characters. The author of the HxH manga made it clear that Gon is meant to have a very 'boring' or 'flat' personality as to give justice of the characters which influence him. I find that very original and in turn makes Gon, a character full of flaws, much more human.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the rest!

Sorry for the late reply, I don't go onto MAL nearly as much as I should.

There is no definitive episode or point where HxH gets better instantly, but is more of a gradual build-up. However, the introduction of nen is when my interest was peaked: the layered and complex structure of this made me realize the extent the writing could reach. It really is all up to you, but for most people the Phantom troupe arc is where is 'gets good', or so they say. (plus what I consider to be the greatest arc is shounen history comes at ep 75, so look out for that!)

Anyways, I'm glad that I persuaded you to watch HxH and I hope that the suffering does not last much longer :P (cause the payoff is huge)
