Aoni Production has announced that seiyuu Kazunari Tanaka died on October 10, 2016 from a brainstem hemorrhage. He was 49 years old.

Tanaka's first main role was Katsuya Kimura from the Jigoku Sensei Nube series. Tanaka also voiced the main protagonist Hachimaki in Planetes. In addition, he voiced minor characters in popular series such as Minori Kishimoto in Slam Dunk, Abirama Redder in Bleach, Ken Kato in Gintama, and more. His most recent role was Keishin Ukai in the third season of the anime adaptation of Haikyuu!!. He was also the vocalist and guitarist of the band Doutonburi Divers.

Oh noes! Rest in Paradise. He went so young. Hope his family is alright.

I sure hope he was able to complete Coach Ukai's lines. Haikyuu wouldn't be the same w/o him :(

I only know him as Coach Ukai in Haikyuu but his role there alone is part of what makes Haikyuu so memorable and good. Haikyuu and especially Coach Ukai wont be the same again. Shame to see him go.

Rest in Peace.

Rest in peace. It is always sad when someone passes away.

Can people please stop asking whether or not he completed all his lines for Haikyuu? I love that series as well, but is it really more important than one of it's voice actors passing away? This is a sad event which was only just announced, please wait a bit.

Oh shit Coach Ukai passed away? Hopefully he finished recording all of his lines for this season of Haikyuu. If he didn't finish and they do have to recast the role, the only other VA I could imagine for Ukai would be Kazuya Nakai. For some reason I always thought Zoro's voice would be a good fit on Ukai if he wasn't already being voiced by someone else. Hopefully they don't need to go through that process though since I'm sure it's a pain in the ass to do so during the season, compared to if this happened a couple months ago. Anyway that's not important right now, and damn, he wasn't even old (especially by Japanese standards). It's always sad to see someone die young. RIP.

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

I guess most people will remember him for his role in Haikyuu, but I really enjoyed his performance in Planetes as the protagonist.

I'm still reeling from the shock of it all.

To lose a talented performer so suddenly is horrible. I enjoyed his take on Ukai, and offer my sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Rest in peace, sir. You left us far too soon.
