Just to make this clear:

1. I am indeed a fudanshi. But I'm not so biased to deny a works true intention.

2. I want to see Takeo and Yamato happy ever after.

3. I do not (!) want to see Takeo and Suna together as a couple.

4. I am sure No. 3 will NEVER happen. And I'm content with it.

BUT

5. We have some scenes/statements in the manga that are at least disambigious.

6. This isn't your typical Shoujo story. So a lot might happen.

7. Suna liking Takeo would be an interesting plot twist with the chance to add some serious DRAMA to the series.

and at last the most important thing:

8. I WANT TO SEE IT!

Everyone keeps connecting him being gay with him liking Takeo, but those two don't need to be connected.

Well...

This thread is in need of more hard facts. Thanks to the users, who write here, we were able to gather some interesting information.

But we still need more.

Is there someone in this forum, who read the whole thing up to the last (Japanese) chapter available?

Edit: The author says (at least in the translation) 'someone' like Takeo. Why not 'some GIRL like Takeo'? Onna? Mysterious ~~~~~~~~

He's not. I personally wouldn't mind if he was gay, he would still be Suna. But I'm pretty sure he's not. The fact that he hasn't dated girls, or he had rejected all the girls confessing to him, it's because Takeo liked those girls too. I think he's just... too much of a very good friend. He rejected everyone so his friend wouldn't get hurt. He's willing to sacrifice his happiness for Takeo.

Also because the girls were badmouthing Takeo.
but I'm sure suna will find a girl later.

That's also an option. The more probable option.

We never said he wouldn't have a gf in the future. But at this point it's still all possible.

One thing I wanted to point out about the character Black_wind mentioned that is missing from the wiki for some reason related with this discussion:

This character has a seiyuu listed so we'll see all this in the anime...hopefully.

Thank you very much. This is the kind of information I waited for.

But yeah, I think it is still too early to draw conclusions here. Do you know where this scene takes place? Is it an older chapter or more recent?

suki < daisuki < aishitteru ... that's something in the middle. And can also mean everything.

'Minna daisuki scrambled eggs!' ;D

But I think you can say at least there is some kind of 'sub-plot' throughout the series dealing with Suna's feelings/affection towards Takeo. Those who deny this are trying not to see on purpose.

At least I think no one will deny that the Suna/Takeo relationship is one main theme of the manga.

Chapter 24 of volume 7. The anime just finished adapting chapter 8 of volume 3.

... God, I really hope we're not looking at a poor adaptation right there! D: Madhouse's doing a stellar job so far, so...now I'm worried...

And I completely agree with you! Their relationship is one of my favorite things in the manga and anime. <3

I don't read the Manga, but I don't get the vibe in the adaption so far.
I love BL, but I honestly don't want Suna having a thing for Takeo. If he's gay I'm fine with it, but please no triangle. I haven't enjoyed a shoujo anime so much since forever and this is quite different from others I've seen so far. Besides, love triangles with that kind of constellation (with one gay part) I've seen some in BL- Mangas, so it wouldn't be sth new.

Another reason is that I love the bro relationship of Suna and Takeo, it's very beautiful and rare to encounter. They support each other, there's sincerity and pureness in their brotherly affection. Suna seems more like a big brother who warmly watches over Takeo and simply wants him to be happy. This kind of love is kinda more beautiful and pure.

It was already mentioned many times in this thread: We ( or at least myself) don't think that Suna IS gay.

We just point out that there are several things (mostly in the manga itself), which could lead you to this conclusion. Or at least are 'suspicious'/'dubious'.

So please don't say people can't accept male friendship. We can. I can. Only people who deny reality and want to see BL everywhere no matter are unable to accept pure and genuine male bounds. Amen!

But the things mentioned above are no reason to stop thinking about the possibility.

I feel like it would add a really interesting angle to the series, seeing that "BL" stuff tends to stay within "BL" works usually.

If Sunakawa could find the female version of Takeo, then that'd definitely be a relationship I would root for XD.

I know this isn't going to happen, but I personally really ship the OT3. I think Yamato and Takeo obviously care about him as a friend, and could easily include him in their happy relationship. (Him being on the cake too is just ship material for me 8) )

I know this is an anime forum but I thought I could shed some light on this topic based on the new chapter released. So... for all you guys who don't read the manga - I HIGHLY recommend you read it (before looking at the spoilers below) not that the anime adaption isn't as good but maybe you could see what kind of relationship Suna and Takeo have (personally I think they're just friends, with Suna having difficulties displaying his emotions)

Nonetheless, this chapter could explain what everyone's debating about (it's a scene when Suna's looking after Takeo's little sister, Maki)

Thank you very much. This is indeed interesting. How do you interprete this (concerning the theories in this thread)?

Is this just a boy who misses his best friend or is it more? There was also this 'Suna do you like me?' part afterwards. And he is blushing.

Well, I'm still not sure what's that all supposed to mean.

Just one thing! The pages occipital posted are from chapter 33, just released two weeks ago, while "Suna, do you like me?" is from 24, released a long time ago (I'd like to say a year ago, but I don't know where to look for this kind of info).

What happened later at the onsen/sauna was certainly something (and really cute, too! )...you should post those too, occipital.

Nobody assumes Suna to be gay, yet. Just the possibility is discussed here.

If one has another 'theory' they should feel free to create another topic. 'Is Suna just shy/a trap/asexual/aromantic etc. ?' for example.

This thread, however, is dedicated to the title above.

No, by being the epitome of a selfless best friend, who surpresses his own feelings and desires to guarantee his friends happiness. ---> Blue Ogre/Red Ogre.

He's already relevant to the story, I don't see why you'd think he's not. Thanks to him Takeo and Yamato got together, he helps Takeo in many things. And don't forget the story about his father. Actually, he's got more development and background story than Yamato, the GIRLFRIEND and CENTER OF ATTENTION of Takeo, who is the MC and by whose POV the story is told. Besides, comedy is a big part of the show, and Suna's interactions with Takeo/Tamato adds to the comedy.
And isn't Suna already the "epitome of selfless friendship"? At least, I already see him that way. Why is there a need for him having romantic/sexual feelings/desire for Takeo in order to become that?

I am so incredibly happy they chose not to pair Suna up with anyone ; u ;

Aro Suna is very important to me personally but I think just having a character like him (gorgeous smart perf bishounen) around and not do a love triangle is such a refreshing thing. Because even if it's not directly stated that he's gay/straight/aro/ace whatever, this work is still normalising the existence of a normal well-adjusted individual who just happen to not be obsessed with notions of romantic love.

Plus the whole point is to show all the different kinds of love: reciprocated romantic love, friend love, one-sided love, family love, etc. and Suna is an important part of that.

I think it's strange how narrow minded people are about this. I suppose it's because they might have had their brains turned into mush by anime/manga tropes, but even then that's not really an excuse when the mangaka pretty much tells you exactly what is going on.

Just take a step back and look at everything objectively. Suna is aloof in general - You never see him hanging out with anyone, you never see him doing anything but reading or going to the book store, in fact he pretty much has no friends but Takeo and never socializes with anyone outside of school but Takeo. If you read the flashback scenes you'll see that Suna was an incredibly lonely and unhappy kid before he made friends with Takeo - so there is a problem here somewhere and it has nothing to do with Suna being gay and everything to do with his inability to connect with people.

That's why, to him, Takeo is such an amazing person. He's the complete opposite of Suna in more than just the physical sense - Takeo is the kind of guy that wears his heart on his sleeve, is always friendly and always outgoing. If I had to put it into a simple concept, I'd say that Takeo is more than just a "friend" to Suna, but probably the one person in the world that Suna actually looks up to. It's like looking at someone and admiring them for possessing the good qualities that you think that yourself and everyone around you lacks.

Just consider for a moment that the reason why Suna doesn't date or have any friends other than Takeo is because Suna doesn't like himself and he probably believes that because of this that everyone else doesn't like him either. It's only someone totally amazing like Takeo that he thinks could actually like him, because Takeo is so kind hearted that he likes everyone.

This is actually a relatively "normal" feeling for people to have. Just because Suna is good looking and smart doesn't mean that he doesn't have doubts about himself or a low opinion of himself or fears about getting close to people. It's quite likely that his aloof behavior is just a result of his own insecurities - after all he's been this way his entire life!

I think he is gay (or maybe just Takeosexual xD) and he is in love with Takeo, but he wants him to be happy. Sometimes I think he is asexual, but saying that he didn't date the other girls because they talk $#!t about Takeo makes me thinks he is interested in date someone, although I don't feel he would be pleased dating a girl (well, anyone but Takeo).

Okay, the reason why I think this is because of one of the episodes where he does go on a date with a girl, and he still rejects her even though she was not into Takeo at first like all the rest. He said something to her, and we didn't get to hear what it was, so I'm assuming it could possibly have to do with that!! :O Just a theory though lol

Fuck love triangles, they're vexatious.
Also, often, a crystal clear example of things such as lack of actual experience with relationships, the ability to write anything with any depth, etc.

But on topic, meh, I don't really think he is, but wouldn't matter what his sexual preference is, if any (maybe he's asexual/demisexual?). OreMon!! Has far more going for it than having some unnecessarily concern for a character's sexual orientation.

Okay in episode 3 they made a connection to the current events to the play. At the end of the play the Blue Ogre had to make a sacrifice for the Red ogre to be happy. So this has to mean one of the two things. Either Suna actually likes Yamato but had to ignore his feelings for his friend to be happy or he actually has feelings for Takeo but he only cares about Takeo's happiness so he lets it go. The connection to the play wouldn't make sense otherwise.
