THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Finally the serious stuff started.

I kinda like the new OP song as well. Felt kinda slow but it was kinda refreshing with the overview of the main players and territories in the world. The Eight Pillar Generals also seems kinda interesting. I'm hoping their reputation lives up to the hype. This Vurai guy in particular has that tough look

Definitely some interesting buildups. I think pacing is going to pick up even more now with the upcoming conflicts

Nice episode. Things get more serious from here on. Ah, stories like this are best when they end with a downer ending. Speaking of ending, I wonder if they will insert 'that' scene between Haku and Nekone. That was some big foreshadowing, I hope they don't leave it out.

This was a fast episode but I'm getting slightly worried about the pacing. The story started to progrees faster but I don't know if they manage to insert all the imporstant stuff. I especially don't want them to cut the exposition of Haku's and Mito's past.

Would have expected them to already start the fighting in this episode. I guess that next episode will be devoted to fighting. And we'll see Munechika and Burai in action.

People keep saying the plot slow and boring, and now the real thing is starting. Trust me you will wish the story go forever boring instead. The story will hit you so hard and hang you in the middle until season 3 is out lolz. The tear ride is coming~!!

This episode was pretty cool. Not to mention the opening gave out a lot of scenes that is going to happen. I sense death flags on many characters, I better hope to be wrong. X(

So it seems they are clearly going for the idea I wrote in ep12 thread. We are seeing Haku's life and the things around him being put into question and we are seeing a contrast with the peaceful and plentiful life in Yamato.

The episode already complements the first half by having nicely brought up the backgrounds of Atui and Rurutie too, with it feeling very natural and without spoonfeeding. A lot of things surrounding their importance in first half an heir behavior now have new meaning.

We also got some nice backstories on the invading force's motivations and drive with the after-credits scene.

The OP was brilliant to. I can see a lot of people bitching about certain things there but Utawarerumono would not be without that confusion.

New opening had mostly static animation and I personally preferred the previous opening.
All that build-up and tension but they didn't actually go to war?
I mean, what? Where's the clash of the generals?
(Also I didn't realise the girls were daughters of two of the generals)

The shield and the spear paradox, that was nice to see. The two general's ideals does seem to clash, which is simply a great depiction of their different foundations!

Getting to see even Rurutie in battle O.o, now that is quite interesting to see a different side of her, same with Atui, as she would be one quirky commander (or perhaps surprisingly normal), but as the general themselves entrusted their daughters to this task, makes it some thing to look forward to.

The enemy having close to no supplies and what not, making them a force to be reckon with, as it can said for warriors that does not have an alternative path, they fight at their fiercest, as winning and looting is their only means to survival, an all or nothing attitude. Kind of on the same wavelength as to what Xiang Yu did in Chinese history, burning all his own ships and supplies that made his own warriors that much more deadly.

Let the intensity begin. Nice intro to the 8(6) pillars. Vurai's a savage not considering those who lost as citizens of Yamato anymore. Damn. Seems like Oshutoru REKT him before tho.

I knew friggin Dekoponpon will be causing trouble :/ What an annoying loser.

I wonder how strong Ruru is in battle? Atui's shown she can be BA but Ruru...Looking forward to see that.

Well the thematical inspiration for Uta franchise was Romance of Three Kingdoms,so taking inspiration from chinese history for countries and tactics is the norm(after all UTA1 was basically Warring States period of UTWR's world)

IF Atui is basically spearman, Rurutie is cavalry. Make of that what you will.

You know, it would be enough to have episodes like this instead of fujoshi shit, poor comedy or completely obvious reveals and there would be much less complaints about the series. Wasting time for the most part of 12 episodes and cramming the essence in the remainder is still a huge fault, no matter how good the actual plot will be.

Damn, now I understand why Haku got a nasty impression when Vurai looked straight in his eyes. That man knows no mercy. I also wonder what were the circumstances for that fight between Oshutoru and Vurai. It looked like it was a trial or something.

Man, Dekoponpo really need to be released from his position. He's a danger for his own men. I wonder how Oshutoru and his friend will defuse the situation.

I liked that they showed us a bit from the other side, in the after-credit. Even if they are considered as barbarian, they are people too and fight for a cause. I don't know what it is yet, but it certainly isn't a black and white situation.

The issue doesn't concern the fact that the first half was intended as buildup. It's that it was so filled with fluff and questionable decisions.

Just look at this episode. This was an entire episode dedicated to buildup, but it was extremely dense in terms of content, We got another conversation with the emperor, some characterizations with the generals and their backgrounds. All of it was useful, so naturally it felt much more substantial.

Look back on my post in the episode 12 discussion. Having plot setup is fine. Building up a contrast between the first and second halves is fine. The concern is how it was implemented in the last seven episodes, and this is precisely what people are having issues with.

I don't think you know how proper characterization or build up look like. In short, not like what this show was doing most of the time after the first episode.

I already answered why I see no problems with them focusing more on characters, as long as they execute what I think their intent is for second half.

Nice! finally getting started.
Looks like that's the end of the introduction and stuff in the first cour. i like it tbh.

like in the beginning of this anime, in the episode 1 until episode 5 i was wondering why the show always talking slice of life stuff, i thought this is just a buildup and the crazy thing will happen in the next cour, and finally.....it was an interesting buildup.
the reason why the bandit took a fight with yamato wasn't too suprising for me though, but i hope for that girl with purple hair in the after credit scene won't die :D i don't really like to see a girl die.

i feel the fight will be good. just don't disappoint the watcher.

They should have done a recap episode so new people watching this wouldn't have to go through the hell of the first half to get to the actual plot. Looks like the show is finally getting started instead of fojoshit and softcore loli hentai.

Action =/= plot. Skipping 12 episodes of world building, character build up, characterization and relationship establishment, etc just because one doe snot like that kind of stuff would be ridiculous in the first place.

Also nice homophobia.

Like honestly it was maybe 2 episode tops of actual plot, it was mostly just fanservice and unnecessarily long introductions of new harem members.

Also implying I'm homophobic, because I don't enjoy male on male fanservice and fanservice of underage girls is like implying you're gay and a pedophile since you seem to enjoy it. People are allowed to have preferences. I happen to like adult women and even then I could do without most of the fanservice since it doesn't add anything. You don't need to jump to a conclusions. You guys are really quick to jump to personal attacks to try to discredit someone with an opinion you don't approve of.

Return of the original cast and Witsuarunemitea in the OP. Hell yeah.

Edit: Is that Eruruu in the OP after the shot of Touka and Karura? It definitely isn't Kuon.

While some parts of the first half will have a little more meaning going into the second half (which will be much better from the look of things), that still doesn't excuse how poorly it was executed overall. This series will be an example of one where the scores are heavily biased and based on the most recent events around the ending when people finalize scores. Basically, it'll still get 9's and 10's despite the somewhat train wreck first half.

Well, look who's talking, who's the one jumping to conclusions and blinding himself with nostalgia.
Fai is just showing how ridiculous your views you have upon how an anime (in this case) Uta 2 should be made.

it was mostly just fanservice and unnecessarily long introductions of new harem members.

There's nothing wrong with that as Uta 1 actually has more fanservice than it seems, and all the girls in Uta 1 was Hakuoro's harem.
Also, Multiple Girls =/= harem, this is especially true in Uta 2, where in the end No one ends up with Haku.

Let me repeat this Uta 1 has one the worst pacings in a VN adaptation, omitting almost all character development for quick action. and the fact you won't even try the VN just because it's 18+, but you'll probably be okay with playing the Witcher, MAss Effect and GTA V...

So they are sending Rurutie and Atui to fight? Does Rurutie really knows how to fight? I think she will use her bird to fight like Aruruu did with her tiger.

And that scene where Dekopopon-fat guy was being ignored was pretty funny.

Still, I really want to see Haku in battle, maybe not battling, but planning battle strategies and stuff.

If their people are starving and desolate wouldnt it be better for them to try to ally themselves with Yamato rather than fighting it. I guess I'm just having a hard time believing their motive for this invasion or how they can get their people behind it. Also seems like we're going to have another noble hearted woman on the wrong side of the battle.
