Really good chapter. I love the whole series of chapters of this part too, admittedly Stroheim's resurrection is bull but in bizarre enough fashion to somehow manage to be entertaining enough to be forgivable. Something JoJo has a knack for pulling off outside of Phantom Blood.

Loved the ending where Joseph (with some help from Caesar) uses the icicles to make a rope to the top with hamon. One of the best applications of hamon in the franchise, also love Kars knocking himself around to avoid crushing the flowers. Along with this and the past scene with the dog, he seems to have a soft spot for nature & non-human animals. It's a little touch that, personally, makes him a more interesting villain than Dio ever was.

That was a close one, quick thinking by Joseph to use the stone as a shield.

Even with Kars' bone blade merged into his chest, the force from grabbing the stalactites using the Ripple successfully shook it off. Using a series on stalactites as a rope is something only Jojo would think of because of the absurdity of it but Caesar emulated his way of thinking just in the knick of time. Naisu naisu, Caesar-chan!

After throwing a hissy fit over his momentary loss, his insane laugh might be a sign that says that he was impressed at fighting such an enemy after so long.

First of all, Jojo setpieces are always so freaking beautiful and memorable. That threeway spread of Jonathan intercepting Dio with his palm as he went to strike Zeppeli in Phantom Blood was etched into my mind. Here we had a spread akin to that one to set the tone with that huge shot of Cars fabulous pose before Joseph grabbed the icicle, promptly and abruptly flipping Cars upside down as he pierced into his chest.

On top of this and telling us there will be 5 seconds to impact, we’re thrown into this bizarre, Jonathan versus Dio-esque fall where Joseph has to think on his toes. Like his grandfather Jonathan did against Bruford, Joseph plans to send hamon through Cars blade so he could get a proper grip. That would have been effective but Cars was on top of him and cathartically smashed him into the wall in a page I could feel! And here, as he was bouncing back and we got full pages back to back of Cars planning to cut Joseph like he did to Stroheim, I thought to myself, “use the stone as a hostage”, and he did. This may be one of the most obvious answers as it was one of the only ways to save himself, but it makes me so happy to keep up with Joseph because one of my first complaints was how he felt too unpredictable that it became unsatisfying. How times have changed.

Yet, holding out the stone wasn’t all he could do! All I wanted for Joseph in that moment was for him to charge that baby with ripple energy and blast Cars as he floated there in the air. It’s a shame he didn’t because that could have been it for Cars, or at the very least seriously hurt him. What did happen however, was nothing to scoff at. I laughed ridiculously hard when I saw the icicle ladder forming from what I presume was the impact of being hit into the wall. Moreover, it wouldn’t have been enough unless Caesar started to understand Joseph and predicted what he’d do. This is the second time he’s caught him and saved his life, and to have a moment of true camaraderie before both made fun of each other a little was sweet. To top it all off, Stroheim’s alive!!! YES!!!! This was such a funny and intense conflict. To start with a mecha-nazi and a race, then to turn into this falling back-and-forth where every move felt like it could be their last!!! That’s what I call some fun stuff.

Lastly, I’ve wanted to touch on the morality of the Pillar Men because I find it fascinating and with Cars choosing to respect life for a 2nd time, in a way more clear than ever, now is a good time for it. For reference, Dio was tragically evil, he went out of his way to hurt people and he was petty, he took joy in it. The Pillar Men don’t feel evil, some things they do could be seen as cruel, but it feels like they’re just being themselves. They respect strength, they strive for perfection, they find joy in combat. They don’t even go out of their way to hurt humans, they ignore them or eat them for sustenance through vampires. They feel as though they are on another plane of existence, as if they really are just higher on the food chain. This is such a nice difference from the despicable Dio, as I felt bad for Dio and enjoyed seeing him, but sometimes I can’t help but root for the Pillar Men. They are “higher being” villains done the best I’ve ever seen! I’m sure I’ll write about why I like all the Pillar Men for their specific strengths in my final post, but Cars interesting relationship with life, be it the puppy, the flowers, or even humans is confusing and intriguing. His insane laugh at the end here read to me as if he’d awoken the thrill in combat that he once had. A thrill that may be part of why he chose not to Dio-style walk up the wall or something and left Joseph behind with the stone that he’s been so focused on.

Joseph managed to retrieve the stone and save himself with his extravagant quick thinking. Cars saved some flowers this time. Cars maniac laughter at the end reminded me of ACDC's crying, wow.
