So that hybrid child maker was one of the 4 in the group that noticed the weak little guy and led him join when they were young. Another one of 4 being Kimura-san's character.

He's accepting the punishment, so he got mad and argued. Later they made last memory before the punishment.

After several cherry pedal falling, Kimura-san's character is cured and found him with the doll completed. It got part of cherry tree and seems to try to say the same thing when that guy gave him the same thing.

Showing the after story of other two pairs, and that guy with a doll.

That was so damn sad. The doll had Tsukishima's voice right? Shit, cried the whole episode! But it's nice to have some good shounen ai every once in a while. Amazing. 9/10

Finally a BL OVA that isn't pure trash. I'd say it's the combination of DEEN with Kadokawa's money + Shungiku popularity that made it have great quality and be a good adaptation of the manga overall.

Lots of feelsss. ;w; I really enjoyed how the stories were intertwined.

I feel like the Tsukishima hybrid doll was probably discarded. At the end, there was another one that looks like Tsukishima but with holes in the throat; assuming this was to prevent the doll from speaking and "reflecting" anymore painful memories.

Ahh, overall, a good OVA!

I can't help but think Kuroda and Tsukishima looks a lot like Takano Masamune and Onodera Ritsu from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi though.

So many feels! Toward the end, I was a mess. I was crying as hard as Kuroda when the little hybrid child talked

I love the full version of the ending song and I love how they showed the first two couples living happily together but where was the Tsukishima hybrid child?
Just waiting y’know...for death. If you also are waiting for sweet death...cool (・u・)

My heart ...it hurts.

As for what happened to the Tsukishima doll, my only guess is that he did keep it for sentimental purposes but it broke eventually in the end. It was just a prototype after all. There were also no signs of it being around anymore if you go back to Koutarou and Hazuki's story when they visit Kuroda.

Didn't want to cry at first but.................... I ended up flooding my room with tears

Ahhhh it all makes sense now. I was wondering who Kuroda was in ep 1, and ep 3 and 4 was actually how he became a hybrid child maker. Still sad that Kuroda didn't have a happy ending with Tsukishima though... T.T

But overall, this whole series deserves a 10. Great art, story plot and bringing across emotions, what more do i need

People always diss Studio DEEN but damn....... This is high quality stuff. The scene direction is just really well done. I think my favourite part of this series was the music which was amazing and very fitting, including the OST as well as the ED.

I'm torn between a 6 and 7 because there's a lot of good things about this series. It's definitely the best Natsume work I've seen so far, out of the other two (JJR, SH) and has a better voice cast as well.

Huge props to all the voice actors, Wingu, Matsuoka, Hirarin, Nobuhiko, OnoY, and Kimura.

I just came to see how many people cried. best arc was definitely the best. It's tragic Tsukishima died but when you look at it, at least 2 people were made happy by Kuroda's Hybrid Children. A project he likely wouldn't have kept at if not for Tsukishima's tragic fate. Time is a fearsome thing though. To still forget someone you held so dear.

I actually didn't cry at all, with none of the episodes. I was thinking I maybe would have if it was straight love, ergo with girls. I noticed there wasn't a single woman in this OVA.
I also wonder if Seya is blind now, he didn't open his eyes once. And what did happen to that first Tsukishima doll?
I think it's ridiculous he had to commit suicide. But he would be in a better place as Kuroda kind of said.

I think they all start with holes in the throat as was seen in episode 3, that doll also had holes in the throat for blood or something. Maybe it was even the same doll.

Not sure why you feel like it had to be girls for you to cry but whatever. There was at least 2 women but albeit they were very minor (Seya and Kuroda's aids) and not important since this was a pretty focused BL story. I'm going to assume that you just generally don't care about BL?

Also, the suicide isn't at all ridiculous when you consider how Japanese culture was back then during the Shoganate and what's expected of each warrior. Especially when you consider the samurai bushido code and how seriously they take loyalty and the roles/responsibility a samurai must take to protect their feudal lord. I thought of other scenarios but regardless, Tsukishima was doomed to die no matter what because of his high rank as a retainer for their Damiyo. Even if they had not gone into battle (using what happened after the historical Boshin War as reference before the Meiji era began), their clan's Daimyo would still be called for peace agreements after an accusation of betrayal and Tsukishima would still be a likely candidate for seppuku as the retainers/ministers would have stepped up to protect the Daimyo and by extension, everyone else in the entire clan. I read somewhere a poster said Tsukishima should have just run away with Kuroda. Well, not possible as cowardice is the ultimate shame and these guys were samurai through and through and wouldn't have run away. It's why Kuroda didn't even attempt to stop Tsukishima leaving.

I just wonder how much of the ritual Kuroda saw, if he saw the aftermath (Tsukishima's headless corpse) since he likely heard the whole thing happen being in the next room. That is just horrific for Kuroda.

Damn you, heartstrings.... Why'd you make me cry?? :'(

I really enjoyed the pacing of this episode. The scene between Kuroda and Tsukishima was done impeccably well. The voice actors did a really good job of conveying emotion, which added to the original story. I'm sad how at the end Kuroda said that "No matter how many years pass, I am still alone"....

Yeah, Kuroda mentioned in the very first story that Hazuki was the first generation of Hybrid Childs, so the Tsukishima doll most likely broke down...and he might be making another one, in that last scene this episode.
Pretty good adaptation I think. Episode 3 and 4 were just whoaa feels train incoming..

I really think that Hazuki and Prototype-kun is one. I mean, when Kuroda learned that Hazuki is the prototype 1, he suddenly remembered Tsukishima (Remember the flashback thing?) Plus, He became a bit awkward and in the end, he saved Hazuki. Knowing that he can replace Hazuki for another one or just ignore Kotaro's pleading. What do you think guys?

So today I was like "y'know what I should watch some BL cause ain't nothin gonna cheer me up like some good ol' shounen ai"-

FRICKIN NOPE
this was fucking depressing. The last story was actually fairly good for a BL in terms of storytelling (not really explanation-wise in terms of how hybrid children are possible but hey its just a BL so it's pretty expected). I was expecting kuroda to be the one to die in the end, but surprisingly it was tsukishima.

decent watch. shouldn't have watched it in the event that I really needed something happy.

Studio Deen really loves its historical tragedies. In spite of that though, there was one bittersweet moment that brought forth profound feelings of both joy and sorrow. I completely lost it on the tree branch scene. I have to admit this whole scenario was remaining predictable (not in a bad way), but that's when it completely caught me off guard and I had to throw in the towel. As soon as the hybrid Tsukishima said "For You", I could feel tears streaming down my face. I just love how down to Earth that moment was for Kuroda. "I love him. Nothing less and nothing more."

That epilogue, although brief, was appreciated. In the end, Kuroda couldn't forget about Tsukishima. In a way he was bound to his past, but I think that the cherry blossom scene freed him of being bitter towards his love for Tsukishima. It was also nice to see that his idea of hybrid children brought happiness to other people as well, such as his friend Seya and Kotarou.

This really did take me by surprise. I wasn't expecting to get so attached to an OVA, most especially a BL one. The scenarios were short, but really grew on me and made good use of their time. There was also a surprising amount of depth in Kuroda's scenario, particularly about the life/death and how the passage of time treats those who keep on living. This is a little off track, but when Kuroda mentioned that he was starting to forget Tsukishima's face, I instantly thought of anime that have emphasized the importance of photography. Pictures are indeed keepsakes to make sure memories can always remain fresh in one's mind.

Anyway it was nice to get another work from the same author of Junjou Romantica and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi. 8/10

Didn't cry, but it still hit me in the feels! Kuroda's story is so sad! Even when tried to hide his sadness by being obnoxious, Seya could tell you were still missing Tsukishima. When the doll talked and smiled with the sakura branch, it was so heartbreaking, especially with Kuroda crying. I hope the new doll he creates last longer, so he can love him the way he loved Tsukishima T-T

Very very good story. despite its "shounen-ai" genre, the story delivered was beautiful and great. It gaves us the meaning about friendship, sacrifice and love in a whole new level imo.

the first time I watch this anime maybe one year ago. I didn't expect it to be turn that way. At first I watch ova 1 and didn't get interested to continue on that day, bcs I think the story is so cliche, i mean the happy ending part. Then the next day I watch ova 2, and it decrease my excitement, I mean Ova 1 is more interesting than Ova 2 imo. The next day when I have spare time I continued watching ova 3...and I have feeling like it has different "aura" (lol idk how am i supposed to say)..it is like it's different from ova 1 and 2..then I continue at the last ova which is ova 4.

Then..... S***!! I'm not prepared for something like that!! I can't stop crying right from the scene when Kuroda debates with Tsukishima until..I don't know..I cry like ugly baby crying with terrible voice LOL

I never watch story so sad yet beautiful like this before...I know maybe I exaggerating but this anime changes my life. Sometimes I'm shedding one or two tear drops when I remember about this, especially when I imagine how Kuroda get through his life and how Kuroda been through the night after Tsukishima gone. I feel like I know the pain Kuroda felt and that's make me feel depressed and gloomy again. This anime touch my very very deep of my heart and soul. It's painfully sweet. It's beautifully tragic.

sorry for my long mumbling :DD i don't have friends who i can this story with :((

They did make love. It's shounen-ai so they'll be discreet about any sexual scenes and it's exactly how it happens in the manga.
I'm really happy that the anime follows the manga so perfectly. X3
I'm just curious as to what happened to the Tsukishima doll?
I wonder if Kuroda kept it or if something happened to it. Cuz with the way it ended makes me wonder if he was dreaming of the doll actually moving and growing.

Oh!
I'm pretty sure they were both in love with each other. I think admitting it was just too hard because they wouldn't get to be together. It would be harder to let go. That's what i think. It seems to be the case in some of the stuff i watch and read. When they know they can't be together it always seems like they say say something mean so that it's easier to let go.

So two couples lived happily ever after, and poor Kuroda was left alone making dolls for the rest of his life... That's a bit of a downer @_@

Decent episode, although I can't say I cried a river. Actually it didn't even hit me that hard for some reason. I liked the first one best, and I kinda regret Hazuki and Kotarou received only one ep for their story, at first I thought they were be the "main couple" of this short series :<

Well, it was an okay OVA, especially for BL stuff, and the animation was amazing! Buuut it's still my least favourite from adaptations of Nakamura's work. 7/10

It was just beautiful. The scenes were breathtaking and the dialogues were delivered perfectly. The art was gorgeous and.... it was just a masterpiece.

Now here's the thing... I cried for days... Because I couldn't get closure. I was genuinely upset and even more so knowing that Tsukishimi (and Kuroda) had no other choice... Committing suicide was the only option for Tsukishima ('cause of the Samurai code and all). And I just couldn't accept it. It felt so real... they deserved so much better. They deserved more than a night. And what Kuroda said about "the ones who are left behind" broke my heart. The fact that "this world doesn't move according to our wishes" hit me hard. Everything doesn't just work out in the end...
