great anime bittersweet ending idk

"I am the bone of my sword,
Steel is my body and Fire is my blood,
I have created over a thousand blades,
Unknown to Death,
Nor known to Life,
Have withstood pain to create many weapons,
Yet, those hands will never hold anything,
So as I pray, unlimited blade works"

iono, it felt a bit meh.

I felt like I was missing alot of stuff in the ending, it wasn't satisfying at all.
Even the bitter sweet endings tend to have a strong sensation swirling within me, but not this series.

Liked this last episode but it couldve been done more differently. I was thinking they'd put that mountain scene a bit earlier and then show Yuiichi just remembering the days he was with her (after her death). I think this will be a lot sadder but still have the feeling of happiness lingering

Hmm, was fine to pass the time - I liked the characters. The series itself, wasn't that moving, not that much drama - lets just say other animes have had an impact so to say (like key's work).

The ending is the best possible outcome - if you consider what you went into thinking will happen when you started watching - I was sure someone will die - but everything turned out "semi"-okay, if you know what I mean? So nothing was really sad or moving, everything just went fine.

7/10.

This was good to burn some time (and bandwidth). I would have to agree that maybe Rika dying would have give it more interesting ending as the possibility to contrast how he and the doctor handle the aftermath would have made an awesome ending.
Personally i would have love to him drop dead at the moment he decides to use that rope to get to her room. He had to convince Rika's mother to be able to talk to her.
7/10 - This wasn't bad, but it doesn't shiny either

Oh 6 episode where more than enough. A 12 or 24 episodes format would have made this painful (not emotional... just like "jezus make them stop bitching and get it over with") to watch.
huh?

I agree! Amazing that it told such a strong story in 6 episodes. I want to believe that she will get the heart transplant and go-on living....amazing story.

BTW: I recogize all the characters in the Wedding photo - all except one - who is the girl on the right? Is that the model?

I wasn't expecting a happy ending, though it was what I wanted to happen. It was great that they kissed at the end.

Not sure whether to give this 8 or 9 /10 yet.

EDIT: Just noticed at the very very end there's a picture of them getting married.
9/10 it is!

So yeah, I looked at the ending after just finishing the first episode. In a review It said "After Rika's death". It turns out she lived. This ruined it for me... :( I'll still watch the last five episodes though.

Kind of a boring romance. Yuuichi has to do all the work to form a relationship. The only contribution Rika makes is no longer being blase about dying. There's no mutual chemistry. The rest is just typical hospital romance angsting.

I like the theme they pushed here, but I feel like I wasted my time watching this. Just SO completely mediocre, with really unbelievable drama all over the place. I can't get over nurses and doctors literally punching and kicking their patients... like, really? I get that anime isn't always realistic, and I'm fine with that, but fuck that's just completely ridiculous. The way they turned that into legit srs bsns drama just rubbed me the wrong way.

There was no chemistry between the couple, and Yuuichi's actions in just the previous episode where he slept with that woman have me wondering "Okay, he did it once, when will he do it again?" Also, why the hell should I care about that woman? Like, she was crying while laughing after getting discovered and then we never saw her again. Wtf? She showed up in a car, tried to sleep with Yuuichi, and we never saw her again. K then.

My expectations were decent, but this was so... blah. Should have spent my time doing something else. 6/10

Really nice for only 6 episodes, but it accomplished everything it needed to in that time. The characters were nicely developed and we got back ground stories for a few characters (at least the important ones). I wish there were more short OVA's like this one it, delivers a fantastic story, gets to the point without any filler episodes in between and has a great theme all the way through, I'm giving this a 8/10. Also the bitter sweet ending was done really well, its a happy ending but its always at the back of your mind that she will live for 5 or maybe 10 more years at the most (unless she gets a transplant...I think).

Coming into this, I was expecting the ending to either be:
1. A miracle cure.
2. Rika's death

However, I think the ending that actually happened was perfect for this series. The ultimate bittersweet ending. They're together.....but probably not for very much longer. That message of cherishing someone, even if the time you have left with them is short, is a great one.

Rika and Yuiichi is now probably my favorite anime couple. Although the road was bumpy, they are finally going to get to spend the rest of the time she has left together, without anyone standing in their way. Great ending.

Overall: 8/10
I'll definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a comedy-drama romance series. I'll probably rewatch the whole thing someday, all at once. I'll definitely remember this series.

Sorry, but I don't get one of the things that happened. Earlier, they claimed that Rika only had 4-5 years to live. However, when the doctor compared Rika to his dead wife, it seemed like he was comparing her life span when she had the surgery to his wife's who didn't. Also, doesn't she only have a heart problem? In that case, if they did the heart transplant (my guess on what the surgery was) wouldn't it get better as long as her body didn't reject it?

By the way, my overall impression for this series was that it was kinda nice but could have done a lot better. There were lots of scenes in there that were executed poorly- the doctor beating Yuuichi, the seduction scene, Yuuichi learning Rika's condition after the surgery, etc. It was also unrealistic for a series that is trying to be close to reality (refer to the scenes above). The romance between Yuuichi and Rika was so undevelopped (or came out suddenly) that, despite it being clear that they were in love, I couldn't see it as romantic at all. They acted only as friends and never really showed any signs of progressing towards love. It was like suddenly at the end of the first episode, they became lovers. Finally, some of the lines could have used work. The final line from the nurse, I didn't see the meaning behind it at all there.

Despite all that though, I somewhat enjoyed the series and felt moved at some parts. The ending in particuliar for some reason made me want to cry. It played well emotionally, but the series could have achieved so much more if it was all executed better.

So in the end, I'll say 3/5. 3.5 just because even after writing this review I still feel like crying a bit.

and that's a feat in itself because i've finished several other crappy series as of late

Thankfully this was short but that didn't even save it. Worst characters and drama ever.

This is a really mediocre anime. 3/10

I can't feel anything for the characters at all - I can't even see the chemistry between the main couple, which is pretty failing for a romance anime. The characters are shallow and I don't even know what the hell is going through their minds half the time. The doctor and nurse didn't add any value to this sorry excuse of a story.

The drama they tried to create was pretty mediocre as well - Locking him out in the cold twice because he was with a porn book? Random seduction by the nurse's friend? It looks like a random and weak attempt at creating drama to make the story more interesting.

The setting and the main storyline had potential, but it is wasted with mediocre pacing, terrible execution and cheesy drama that tries way too hard. It didn't get a 2 simply because thankfully I didn't find it boring, but just pretty mediocre.

After glancing over the reviews I decided to give it a try, in hope to get some sad stuff. Didn't play out that way though. At the end of episode 5 I assumed the big bomb would drop in the finale, but no. Quite disappointing, this could have been pulled off a lot better. I did enjoy watching this, don't get me wrong, but I just expected more, I barely felt for the characters here. I liked the nurse most of them all.

On another note, at the end of every episode I started singing a bit of Chicago - Hard To Say I'm Sorry to the ending song, only to be abruptly interrupted and reminded it's not that song.

By the first part of this episode, I can't even breathe... It was so sad, that he can't even see her after surgery... I'm really happy, that creators of this show decided to end this in this way. 9/10

A morbid series to say the least. I enjoyed it a lot, it's going to be hard to rate it since it was six episodes, but it's going to be in the 8-9 range. I thought there were some ridiculous scenes, but those made me laugh more than anything. I really like dark atmosphere and the themes that this anime tried to imply, and I think they did it well. Of course, with more episodes, and more creative plot devices, this could have been a bit better, but I think with that they did, it was nice.

Although the premise had vast potential and I like the ending along with its bittersweet, optimistic message, the journey there was a complete mess that had me completely immersed at some points and flabbergasted at how abysmal it was at others. The porn mag drama, near-NTR moment of passion with random girl from Tokyo X, and the complete farce of a hospital that lacked any security or sense of professional guidance really made this hard to sit through.

Yuuichi's problem, in the words of Cool Hand Luke, was that "what we've got here is a failure to communicate." I couldn't really get behind these characters and the doctor/nurse being loose cannons just felt like a forced attempt at having wild, eccentric professionals thrown into the mix.

This had some good moments but there were so many better ways to reach the same end result. A generous 6/10 since the conclusion left me smiling.

I thought it was a nice, quick little story. Sure it had some flaws, but I felt like the pacing was pretty good and the suspense was done well enough. There were some little contrivances here and there, but it wasn't too bad overall. It was a tight story that avoided having too many characters and kept the plot lean in order to fit within the 6 episodes. For what they had to work with, I felt pretty good about it. It could've easily been a two hour animated film as well. I'm pretty sure either format would've been fine.

To reply to some of the earlier comments, I can forgive all of the porn mag drama, the stupid doctor drama, the cheating drama, but what the hell is wrong with Rika's mom!? If your son/daughter has months or possibly only days left to live, are you REALLY going to take away someone who makes them happy? If they are young and haven't experienced love, are you going to keep that from them until they die? What kind of selfish person would do something like that? By what logic would you think that would be good for them?

That said, it certainly was a good reminder to cherish what you have because you don't know how much time you or anyone else has left. In my head canon, the doctor and nurse end up together and Rika gets a heart transplant through an experimental surgery method and lives for a lot longer than expected.

This is an example of a great premise wasted on the worst possible execution, every single attempt at drama in this was reliant entirely on illogicl actions from a sociopathic doctor, some of the most bullshit cases of miscommunication in all of anime, overreaction to minor events, and the out of place ntr sex scene from ep 5 which is so bad i feel like giving this anything above a 3 would be insulting,

The tragedy is this bittersweet ending would had been really emotional and thought provoking had it not been for the detestable characters and their artificial monstrosity that was their relationship
