| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Trap is getting lower on ranking and they are thinking of improving. More competitors... lol @ new mangaka who gave up working in the office. The manager doesn't want them to change, and not care about the ranking. And one of the assistants not trusting him. Niizuma liking Trap as a not-so-Jack series (suitable style), "interesting". |

| Hmm, what a touch decision making there. In a way, it feels like making decision of whether you should sell your stock when the stock price has dropped three weeks in a row as you can sometime overlook your long-term goal by focusing too much on your short-term goal. Sometimes, constantly looking at your stock price chart would cause you to make hasty bad decision, just like getting informed of popularity ranking at Jack. Anyway, this episode really focused on manager Miura and I think he has become more likeable character after this episode. :) |

They try to copy Call of Duty, but that just makes the fans of the other genre mad because they are just reading more of the same. If you're a mystery, stick to being a mystery. Oh yeah, I loved the early Splinter Cell series up to Chaos Theory, but after that it got more fast-paced shooting rather than planning out your attacks and using stealth. It sucks now imo and they even removed the good multiplayer game modes. |

| It's cool to know that Fukuda and Nakai/Aoki effort are rewarded, even if it was a bit too fast in my opinion. That episode had me stressed. They were really lost and I really thought that what Muira said would destroy them, but Mashiro understood the meaning behind Eiji word. I'm glad that they continue to go at the opposite of Jack/Jump mentality. |

Kinda confused at the editor-in-chief here : in what world does "in this case the editor should not be directing the author" translate into "Miura, be more self-confident. Don't show your doubt in front of them." ... That's just encouraging him to be more uncompromising. |

| I agree with Miura too. Keeping Trap as a genuine mystery manga is much more interesting that turning it into a typical battle manga, even if it may get cancelled. |

| I agree on Miura actually and glad they agree on the end. I also think that it will be a disaster if they will suddenly change their path just to get a high rank. Mystery takes time and always needs a build-up. Yes it’s good to be mindful of your rank but they should remember that there’s a lot of manga featured in Jack and they are not the only one with good story. Though I hope Miura can’t be too optimistic because sometimes it’s not good lol. |
| Good episode with a new interesting conflict that's going to be around for the rest of the series given that Mashiro and Takagi are both professional mangaka serializing weekly in Shounen Jump. The rankings. Like Fukuda said earlier in the anime run, Jump analyze rankings really closely and are willing to pull the trigger on cancellations very early on if rankings are low, even if the stories are slow-building or are really well written/drawn. It's a popularity system that runs like a machine where every few weeks, the bottom of the pile gets extorted and replaced by new serializations constantly. Mashiro and Takagi didn't start red hot and in their 3rd week, ended up with mediocre rankings at 9th. So they're questioning their direction whether to continue the way they're going and hope to stabilize while maintaining the integrity of their tone and themes, or try to make it more shounen-like to desperately raise the ranks temporarily for survival and compromise the identity of Shady Detective TRAP in the process. Big decisions here for them, and even their editor Miura who is in the hot seat, especially since he believes in survival for the long run with his mindset, over rising to the top. It was good though that Mashiro decided to continue doing what they're doing and not change up the style and tone, thereby retaining TRAP as a genuine mystery manga and not turn it to a gag or battle manga of sorts. Niizuma's words of encouragement and praise for Takagi's stories were what actually convinced him, but its good to not rush so quickly, especially since its your first serialized manga with the company so its easy to be desperate and not think with a calm mind. The luck will come soon as long as you really believe in your own works and feel like it's genuinely got the quality to attract interest over time. |
