It looks like a lot good conversation are up so I will join to in all this. Personally this episode had lots of development in regards to Chiba, Maho and of course Shuichi/Yoshino that are key to understanding their progressions. I still cannot believe how much of a bitch Maho was in the following part,

she completely undressed Shuichi without bothering to ask him what it was all about on top of completely using brute force on Shuichi instead of, like I mentioned earlier episodes, to tackle the problem more maturely. I don't like her attitude nor ways towards Suichi's problem and wish she change somehow or be more comprehensible towards Shuichi, her pride/arrogance is a bother. Let me elaborate in the spoiler since it's too long.

About other elements, there was a reference to Starbucks coffee place again. Liked particularly the feeling of the reflection of Shuichi/Yoshino in the window during the infirmary meeting. Pretty sure Riku is blushing because he had a kiss the day before. Call me crazy but I think that Makoto and Shuichi as girls in the spoiler
look mighty fine for girls, although I am less inclined towards Makoto in that matter. ROFL, Shuichi was so much in trouble when Maho who was right behind him heard him pretending to be her by uttering her name. I particularly like the angle that was taken during Shuichi's part of thinking about the play. Shuichi's imagination of one of the play's scenes was quite spectacular as in the scene itself.

In regards to the preview, can't wait to see that date of Shuichi/Yoshino but dressed as their opposites of what they really are. I want to see reactions and how that will go. Can't wait to meet Yoshino's parents. They look rather nice people. Of course yes goes to more Chiba/Shuichi conversations in her room. Looks like Chiba might be stepping things up in the next episode big time.

Well.. I am glad to see many positive comments about this episode.
However, IMHO I thought this ep is not as powerful as previous eps, maybe because there are few particularly gripping scenes (one example will be the one when Riku enters Shuu's home) and lots of vague hints being dropped altogether (good example that someone mentioned is about the three-way conv between Maho and her friends).
But then, character development is needed, and sometimes the flow of the show can be disrupted by the excessive of it, which I thought was what happened with ep 3.

I wanted to give a 3/5, but as this ep shows a lot of character development, important for those people who haven't read the manga to understand better about the characters, i gave it a 4/5. Maybe watching this without reading the manga is better. YMMV

Oh who am I kidding they're not going to respond. Sadly, the people that need to be subject to the kind of trans-awareness this show incorporates just close their ears and go "lalalalala I can't hear you".

I love you.

Also, best episode yet. I was a bit underwhelmed by the first two, but this was perfect.

I actually kind feel bad for Chiba for some reason; it feels like she's going to continuously be shoved aside. I continue to like her more when she has her hair down.

Yeah, same here. I just can't not like her.

Really?
I think she's quite honest. It's obvious she's in love with Shuu, therefore resenting Tatsuki - the object of his desire - is quite natural.
It's her honesty and straightforwardness that lead her to being harsh at times. But I much rather see that, than some fake 'learning to be nice' to Tatsuki, a person she has no reason to like.

This. I'm really sick of the "I want my beloved to be happy so I'll pretend that I don't hate the object of his affection and be her 'best friend' while crying myself to sleep late at night when no one's looking AKA lie!" types. Chiba is honest and in my opinon, more realistic and more relatable. Sure, you could say that she's immature but so is everyone in this show.

Er, anyway- I can't wait for episode 4. I'm really loving this show and I'm quite tempted to pick up the manga again after having it on-hold for a while.

I'm really liking this anime. The animation is really beautiful and the drawings are so detailed. I love the controversial themes and how all the characters look so cute. I wasn't planning on watching this since the first episode gave me a HUGE headache but I get it a chance and I don't regret it. This is awesome. :3 If only it were longer...second season anyone?

I keep reading posts about Takatsuki being transgender. I thought that Takatsuki was a girl that wanted to be a boy and Nitori was a boy that wanted to be a girl. Is that not right?

...That's the EXACT definition of transgender

Blutspender said:
Now I finally got that Takatsuki is female. After three episodes.

Let me help with that. Any character that usually wears a girls uniform at school, is a GIRL. I kind of thought that was incredibly obvious. And any character that wears the boys uniform normally is a boy

BTW, the whole Seya blushing at "Nitorin's naked chest" is a lot funnier if you've read the earlier chapters, considering that he had a crush on him. (He was completely convinced he was a girl at that point though.

Heh heh this episode was disturbingly relatable. I like how this show has nice mix of comedy and drama, so it doesn't get to heavy. Which reminds me, that Chi chick is really crazy coming up to Takatsuki like that. I would die if someone did that to me. >///<

I wonder if we’ll get to see if there’s any reason why she’s so outgoing.

Everytime Makoto does anything with Nitori i can't help but feel a heart attack coming, it's just too cute! I think they'd make a cute couple if not for the fact that, you know, Nitori is head over heels for Takatsuki (I hope I got her name right, still having trouble remembering names for this)

Other than that, episode was nice as usual. Dunno why people are saying there are a lot of confusing things going on, almost everything is pretty clear to me. Can't wait for the play, assuming it's shown of course.

I'm still finding it hard to keep up with all the different characters and often forget who's who... I guess it's because they just threw you in in the first episode and didn't really provide much of an introduction.

I'm so loving this show T^T the animation is so sweet
I love Chi-chan. she reminds me of Fou Lu from Breath of Fire IV but silly ^^
also I feel rly sorry for Maho.. she may seem gruff but she's trying so hard to be a model
and then her brother comes outta nowhere and makes a cuter girl than she does.
not to mention the guy she likes mistook him for a girl, thinks he's cute and blushed when he saw him undressed.
and Makoto seems so innocent in all this, just accepting his best friend.

So Makoto also likes to cross dress? Or does he just do it because Nitori likes to? Hmm, I guess I will have to read the manga. I wonder why they didn't start it from the beginning, and it's only 11 episodes too. I felt bad for Takatsuki when she said that she can't wear the boy's uniform because of her chest. Well she could always go the route where I see in many dramas of wrapping cloth around her chest :P jk, but seriously, that must be sad :( and for Nitori too especially, because his voice will change, and his body too. His situation kind of reminds me of Nousatsu Junkie.

The manga has been kind to me so far, I've finally caught up to where the anime starts and everything has clicked together and made sense. It's easier to appreciate the inside jokes/situations as well as some of the ways characters interact with each other (such as Riku and Nitori) since you know where they're coming from.

Given the amount of episodes they had, I can sort of understand why the anime didn't start at the very beginning of the story, since it might have felt too rushed or missed some good moments. If you end up enjoying this series by the time you finish, the manga is certainly worth a shot imo.

Still doubt and uncertainty about what to do, involving the protagonists, but the story goes far beyond excellent.
Narration more than good, not only settles on the tip of the characters, but it also speaks of those around him, really nice everything.
Drawings and animations of excellent quality, more compelling story.
I wonder, Nitori at that time what he thought, looking at the backs of Takatsuki? Stupor or envy?
I would say, without thinking that he tried amazement.

I'm absolutely loving this Anime. Being LGBT is tough and it's even tougher if you live in a strict society like Japan. Yes, despite its tentacle porn and other bizarre pornographic paraphernalia, Japan isn't as accepting when it comes to LGBT people even though it has its roots all the way back to their samurai and even Buddhist institutions. I can only imagine how hard it is for these kids to go through self-identity when people around you are so judgmental.

I like all the characters, even Chiba. I believe she's misunderstood and despite how she appears, she's unable to fully express how she truly feels.

I really want to dive into a bunch of social implications this anime touches, but it doesn't really feel right. Rather than getting into broad issues, Wandering Son is amazing at being a story about individual characters trying to figure themselves out, and I think it excels to that end. I've seen other shows touch on issues of gender and sexual identity before, some more abstract than others, but going broad feels disingenuous to the characters.

This is a story about the emotional ups and downs these young characters are experiencing through adolescence, and I feel going any further then that takes away from the show's focus: what the characters are going through as they slowly age. Social issues are definitely present, but that's more for viewers to interject, rather than for the characters to discuss like critics at a round table. The characters are just living their lives, and I appreciate this show for not over-extending. It's a really quaint show with a warm color palette, tranquil music, and drama that is neither overbearing nor soft.

I've held off on watching Wandering Son for a long time since I felt I'd accidentally marathon it, and I was right. This is a great show, and I'm about ready to marathon it.

Wait so Takatsuki is trans-gender? What a revelation I didn't even know!

Pretty hard to wrap my head around that. Always thought this was mainly about BL, but this is on a whole different level.

Edit: I take that back, just read the profile. Takutsuki is actually a masculine girl. :o

takatsuki is a trans guy, and nitori is a trans girl. as far as i know this anime doesn't have any bl, but i could be wrong.
