I've only seen the Subbed version but to all you Dubbed watchers, I've been wondering but what do they do in those moments when characters are supposed to be speaking different languages and not understand each other? e.g. Koyuki and any American. ^_^

I just wish they had gotten Ryusuuke and Maho voice actors with fluent English and broken Japanese as they were supposed to talk, instead of the other way around...

I agree btw, it's hard to imagine the point coming across in those scenes if everyone spoke English...

I thought Ryuusuke's VA was alright, it was just Maho's which was terrible. But at least none were as bad as Black Lagoon (sequel). ^_^

subbed... the original voice always sounds better.. I find it hard to enjoy the animé when the voice of the character doesn't suit him/her + Subbed animes helped me learn some of basic Japanese words ^^-

BECK is probably one of the very few anime series' that I prefer to watch it dubbed rather then subbed.

I dunno, native Japanese voice actors trying to sing the English songs... while its a nice change, to me it seems a teeny bit forced.

But I suppose you'd get that when you don't speak the language, heh.

for me i found the dub better, only because the of the songs, its probly because im not a fan japaness sing. but the japaness voice cast was better the than the dubbed 1, but not by that much. but i the subbed verison i love how they people switching from japaness to english.(that must have made it very hard for the dubers

It has an amazing dub. The songs are even better then they are in the sub. While the sub has the barrier with the languges in the show. The dub has a barrier of cultures.

To be honest with the above response. All of the songs sounded horrible coming out with new lyrics, if they hadnt made the same songs with lyrics that made sense in english it would have been fine, the only other thing that bugged me with the dubs was that the series was MEANT to be in japanese hence why they go and have americans come in talk occasionally to show that this is a multi languaged anime not just one or the other. In my honest opinion the people that made the dub did a great job reading the scripts but not playing the part, every character sounds like they were either high or sick when they did their parts.

I personally love the way the characters pronounce English in this show. Especially Full moon sways.

Watch the sub for the masterful Engrish, and the dub for the music.

The dub is actually very good, one of few that I enjoy.

I voted for the sub since as good as the dub is (which btw is really good and I'd recommend you watch at least once) you might miss or not get as much of a look at the cultural aspect of the show.

Typically I prefer anime subbed. I got this one dubbed, and it was fantastic. Prolly the best dubbed anime I've seen. They really did good work, especially on the music. I highly recommend the dub.

Dub.

There are certain things in anime voice acting that really grind my gears. In English, wonky regional accents like thick southern drawls or fakey Indian ones can ruin a viewing experience for me (a trend that I hope to see continue to decline), and in Japanese, copious amounts of awful Engrish. That competent English is such an integral part to the story and music really hurts the sub IMHO.

Luckily, Funimation's dub is excellent.

I could not watch the sub so I tried out the dub to see the difference and it's HUGE, it's like watching a different series. I usually only watch subtitled episodes, but in this case I'm making an exception. The sub is unwatchable, in my opinion.

I saw it on kumby.com but that site gave me laptop a lot of viruses and practically crashed it. I had to get a new hard drive.

in the dubbed version near the end of the series.. in what i found the best performance of the anime you hear a fucked up version of the Beatles song : I've got a Feeling... i mean its COMPLETELY fucked up, not even 5% accurate lyrics. maybe the beatles record label threated a suit or were asking for cash in order to use the song in the english version
but it's just really lame like any other other dub i could imagine.... god damn why do english speakers sound like losers... :/

edit: honestly the singing for these native nihongo speakers is pretty damn amazing. it takes a couple eps to get used to but when you do, you will love it

I'm able to read subtitles quickly and I prefer to listen to the original character's voices, so I watched this anime with subs. I don't care about Japanese accent of English. I perceive this kind of speech normally.

I watched it dubbed and was impressed by Maho/Tanaka's singing. I watched it on a dual audio version and when I heard the singing in subbed version it was disappointing. The only downside to watching it in dubbed is that I had no idea Maho/Ryu spoke to each other in English and spoke Japanese to everyone else. Whatever you choose I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

the dub is great for a dub but if anyone is reading this i suggest watching in sub as some parts of the anime are meant to be spoken in english and its quite funny as hell like maho says to him FUCK YOU in english on the sub and dub its just all straight out english and the dub is ok, the guy in the sub sings better but the chick is on par with the girl from the sub..im actully would not be surpised if they was the same person but the lyrics are also a tad different from the sub.

the sub has that special touch to the music and makes you understand the character more.

well we on a english site and theres not much dubbed so this will have a dubbed fanbase

but for all of you who watch animes normally in sub, theres no need to watch in dub..

its like dbz but the sub is actully good....so theres no need to watch it in dub..if you know what i mean.

they are both good but sub is where its at because the sub came first and protrays the characters better.

I haven't seen much of the Dub, but I think I prefer the Sub, even with it's bad Engrish. The main reason is I prefer the songs in the Japanese especially when it comes to Chiba, the guy doing his dub is no where near as good as the original Japanese VA.

I mostly watch dubs because I watch anime during my lunch break. It's hard to read and cut a pork chop at the same time. If I have respect for a show, I'll watch it subbed to enjoy it in its original form.

Well since I knew this series was focused on rock music and the characters were going to be singing songs in english I watched it dubbed. After watching some episodes subbed, I made a good choice. I'm not bashing the subbed signing it's just I prefer to hear the signing clearly.

Lets see; an anime about a J-Rock group, 99% of it is set in Japan, and it used real music talent for the songs...Yeah I watched this in Japanese.

I definitely prefer the dub. I watch anime dubbed when available because I find it easier to immerse myself in the show and fully enjoy the visuals, but I rarely find dubs to be an improvement on the Japanese track and Beck is one of those special cases. The dub has great acting and singing from its performers and as an English speaker I greatly appreciate how natural the dialogue is. In the sub the often awkward sounding English was distracting and while I have no qualms with the VA's their performances weren't as striking as the dub casts'.

Well, that's a really good point!!!!but small stuffs like that, doesn't matter!!!!
With no offense to the japanese people!their voice actor's/actress's english sucks big time!
When they pronounce english words they 90% percents time does wrong and that sounds awful and ruins the mood!In beck where there are lot of english,i think dub is way better!Did you hear the dub songs in this anime!they are way better!
But japanese voice actors/actresses are really good in natural dialogues!so i don't mind sub at all!but i still like dubs!
