I really love where this series is heading, especially because it is not affraid to play upon certain historical events.

Natsume was born that way, clearly. He was that big when he was born. xD
And I kind of expected Kazura to take Isao's side after that talk of theirs, don't know if it'll last though, so now to wait for episodes 11-13 to be translated.
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.
Is it time for my long-awaited return to the forums? щ(゚Д゚щ) Nope™, probably not.

So the plan to use the atom bomb seems to stem from the fact that the western nations know that Asia is in possession of a similar weapon within this series...wow...quite an interesting move.

Seriously o.o That surprised me the most.
Kazura saving Isao was also surprising, seeing as he is always the upright, yes-sir, carrying the orders out type of guy...but at the same time it's understandable, taking into account all the military lectures.

(first time commenting on this anime so bear with me)

This episode was really nice. I gotta admit: most of the anime was kind of "Meh" to me. But this really changed things. Now we have betrayal AND intrigue! Kazura really surprised me when he changed sides; he seemed the more "patriotical" of the four.

Overall, good episode, looking forward to the next one.

And the show has entered full-blown METAL GEAR mode now.

Those who know deterrence theory should find Ishihara's speech at the military academy familiar.

Plus we have a SOKOLOV in the form of this Ichinose fellow, a renegade psychic Japanese officer in possession of a large sum of money planning to use a weapon of overwhelming force to unite the world (or at least Asia), and a quirky follower also with psychic powers. It's like MGS 3: Snake Eater, except 33 years earlier in China.

And that's awesome.

Though why didn't Natsume just shoot Takachiho. He had the man right in his sights, what was the point of blowing up barrels and somehow making a ring of fire, lol.

I'm glad Aoi wasn't punnished too badly. Kazura was mad at Aoi though.
We finally get to see a little of Natsume's character! :)
What's Isao up to now? First he talks to Aoi, then Yukina, now Kazuya.

Kazura seems to quite an idiot , Isao want's to start WW2 ! They can't hope to win just because they have a big bad bomb . It's not like they're the only ones with fancy weapons and brainwashed soldiers ...

At this point in time, it sure seems like they ARE the only ones with fancy weapons and supersoldiers...

Ooh, shit really did hit the fan this ep. :P So just to confirm (cus I got a little confused): Takachiho somehow found out about the atom bomb in the future, so he wants to create his own bomb. Right? Or what?

Lol I was with Aoi at the end: "Damnit, Kazura!"

Yes, Isao did know about the atomic bomb and intends to create for his Pan-Asianism plan. On how he knows about it will be explained in the next episode and when he will use will be also explained in the last 3 episodes.

Cool, thanks! My brain was a little tired haha, I shouldn't try to watch Night Raid when it's like that. XD

He's not an idiot; he's going with the side that he thinks is going to result in less bloodshed. If that really is the last war, then it'll be worth it for him. And it's not like he was entirely baseless in his decision; the atom bomb/nuclear weapons have been a major deterrent for the United States and other countries when it comes to taking military action. Think about it, we invaded two countries in the Middle East that didn't show any evidence of having obtain the technology necessary to make nuclear weapons, instead of Iran, which has nuclear weapons and much clearer connections to terrorist activity.

So I guess WWII wasn't the last war. Kazura was wrong. However, it has been the last world war, and hopefully it will stay that way because the next world war will be the last. Since there will be no one left to stage another one.

Anyway, good episode, lol. This made me bump the series score up a point. I can't wait 'til the next three episodes are subbed! D:

Ooh nice epic moment at the end. This is what I want more of! I've found it really hard to follow some of the historical events. Hopefully this will get dubbed and it will help to understand a little more.

As I thought, Kazura is the one who'd defect if any of them.

The man have his own sense of morale, and his prior education of war that ends all war...

The whole Atomic Bomb bit is slightly . . . Annoying. I mean how could they possibly know how it works even if the future told of a large bomb? It isn't like they never thought "I want a more powerful bomb" . . . Then their is the problem of how one man was able to make it? It took quite a few people to make it and they already had done quite a bit of research before getting started . . .

If anything I expected Aoi to be the one to change sides, not pigheaded by the book glory to Japan Kazura. He's an even bigger dick than I thought.

Kazura's decision felt quite odd to me. Although the classic "flashbacks for context" highlighted his motivation for betraying his friends, he had always been portrayed as the character who embodied the nationalistic and militaristic mindset of Japan during the early Showa era. I interpreted his line from an earlier episode where he states his ability stole his uniform, his chance to be a regular soldier, as a personal regret and also the pride he felt as a soldier for his country. His unqualified support for Japan's colonial mindset clashing with Aoi's critical dissatisfaction with Japan's actions also highlighted Kazura's nationalistic views. So that's why his decision irked me a bit.

The directors did a few things nicely though. It was good to witness Kazura's internal conflict develop and reach a climax towards the end. Also, Kazura leaving his grandfather's journal behind can be interpreted as a metaphor for Kazura leaving behind his country, allies, and old way of life. But I predict it might come back as a plot device later on to remind Kazura of who he once was and have him return back to his friends. I'll have to wait and see.

Also, those were some dank centrifuges. Although I believe centrifuges weren't used until later on since I know the American's used gas effusion chambers to enrich their uranium before using centrifuges. Comparatively, 1931 is quite an early time for atomic weapon development (at least form my knowledge).

So, he can see the future, that makes more sense now. Kazura changing sides is pretty interesting.
