I finally took my time to watch this.

Loved it, nearly cried when all those supporters came to help Natsuki. Reminded me so much of the scene in the Digimon movie when they came together to help Tai and 'Matt'.

Much better than I expected. Mixes action, drama, comedy and fun into one fantastic film. Has characters that I all love and fantastic animation that should be watched in HD. I can't wait for the next film from Hosoda Mamoru. 10/10. If you've seen all the Ghibli films then check this out.

I scored it fine cus the tiring end, ok family stuff, oz/internet topic, all good since I expected something different and calmly in this movie, loved how the family developed themselves just like a normal day in a big family in fact the movie is totally worth the time at the first 1 hour but then it fell off in the classic cliché, yeah I may sound like I hater(I´m a hater of the same)Anyway if the movie didn't fall off in such cliche of until everyone appear I cannot win this I would score it up to 9 since loved lot of what was going on until the girl needed the world to WIN..., oh well next then.

Just what happen when you watch too much anime I guess.

Despite how contrived the plot elements were (world agencies allowing a system that barfs decryptable passwords on an authentication error to control satellite trajectories and power grids... uhm... o...k), the portrayal of the chaos of a nuclear family was just wonderful; and that house, ohmygod.
Wonderful film; just short of perfect because of the admittedly stupid elements. 9/10 for me.

When I rewatched Digimon: Our War Game for the first time - ten years after seeing it in theaters as a kid - I was completely wowed by just about every aspect of the film. "If only there was more anime like this," I thought to myself, "And to think, this was made way back in 2000. Imagine how great something like this would be today, a decade later."

Well, in Summer Wars, I got my wish. The movie embodied everything I loved about Hosoda's second Digimon film - in fact, it was almost the same movie. Summer Wars was basically Our War Game brought back to life a decade later, replacing the familiar Digimon characters with a crazy new family, expanding on the real-world aspects, and somehow receiving a significant boost to the already impressive artwork. All I really could have asked for was a slight change in the actual chain of events, but I liked the original story enough that the near-carbon copy didn't bother me much.

Sure there were some parts of the movie that were really stupid or unrealistic, like the flagrantly insecure technology or the cheesy over-the-top-ness of the final battle or the fact that the fate of the world lies in the hands of a single family and everyone in the world is magically online at the same time and knows how to donate their account to the cause (which was pretty much the only problem I had with Digimon). But really, the positives in Summer Wars so far outweigh the negatives that it's very easy to just accept the scenario for what it is and enjoy the film. Which is all that Summer Wars really wants you to do.

Excellent movie. Would recommend. 8/10.

Summer Wars was very enjoyable. 9/10 (or 4 out of 5).

The resemblance with Digimon's Our War Game was a tadbit upsetting though (I'm aware they're from the same director and all, I just wasn't expecting such resemblance. Maybe I shouldn't have seen OWG when I was younger).

At first I was like ヽ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ. But then I was like ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌.

1st 80 minutes was brilliant. However, the casino part was overplayed.

8/10.

I thought Kazuma was a girl for more than an hour (until I realized they call him kun and his shisho used kare). I actually wanted him to get together with Kenji. /facepalm.

It felt really Japanese and really American at the same time.

How to get an introverted computer geek to get a popular girl? Well, create a completely fictional world and ridiculous circumstances, and then have him save the world...

Honestly, as silly boy fantasies go, this one was really overdone.

I wanted him to fall for kenji when i thought he was a she:D or whatever. <3 short haired gals. And Natsuki was really irritating in the 1st half of the show. Like how he used Kenji and followed her uncle around and some other selfish moments. Oh well.

The movie wasn't that great, just decent for me (7/10). It's hard to believe they keep important data on a social media network (OZ), creating an evil AI with no fail safe if something were to occur, and it was definitely not in any way better than TGWLTT.

The beginning of the movie was good and they should've stuck with a drama romance story, that would've been better than this.

Watched it last night, giving my thoughts now.

Sure, the plot was totally contrived and ridiculous (and a bit too similar to the Digimon Movie), but I had fun watching, which is more or less all I want from "family" films. I really enjoyed the family's interactions, and the way they reminded me of the times my extended family would get together. On that note, I felt Natsuki and Kenji's personalities were underdeveloped, as was their relationship. That's probably my main complaint with Summer Wars. Overall, I'd give it a high 7 or low 8 out of ten.

What a beautiful movie. The emphasis on family was so mesmerizing. Not only are there blood related but, those who you've came across through the years will help you in time of need. This movie truly displays the power of relationships and how one should cherish these bonds.

9.499/10 but, what the heck, 10/10.

I live in America, and I have never seen a greater movie. This was freakin beast. It was hilarious and the Oz part of the movie was absouelty insane. At first I didn't exactly get what Oz was, but as I got a hang of it and the movies plot began, I became entrolled and chills were crawling down my back. I loved Kenji-kun and his skills, that was true epicness. I'm glad that the movie didn't revolve around romance, but actually had action (even though it was in a game). King K was kick-ass, also... just throwing that out there.
---
Parts that were hilarious to me;

"Can we just sit around and eat lunch?"
"It was part of her will!"

AND

"I don't know what's going on... but, arigato!"
---

Along with the main plot, I like the side lesson about how family is a the most important thing. That's probably what made the movie more injoyable for people... the funny, huge family being involved in everything and the little kids always making situations funnier. Grandmm will be missed, though. Hopefully now that Kenji-kun made a promise, will join the family >.<

I'm stuck between a 9 and a 10 for this movie. The reason being that I somehow enjoyed the first half of the movie more than the second half. Probably because in the first half is when everyone starts to realize whats happening and that Kenji was a criminal (that night when he got a text and randomly broke the code... damn, that was amazing). So, that part was the most enjoyable for me.

*sorry for the longness, i just really liked the movie(:*

Omg i hate like everyone want deep characters etc for god sake i dont want to watch only deep, epresing etc anime.
And characters in this were believable just normal people .
Only letdown was Kenji and Natsuki there was not much development in their relationship and confesion at end has been unbelievable.
Story needed little more space at least 30 minutes more for better development.

It was an OK movie. The second half just had several annoying things that ruined a lot of the enjoyment for me.

The designs for everything, especially OZ, were pretty amazing, and the family theme was used well, but that's about it.

Natsuki and Kenji had an bland, underdeveloped relationship and she tooled him as a prop most of the time.

The hanafuda game was extremely anticlimactic - who even knows how to play that? It was just like, okay, pretty pictures. Absolutely no tension because apparently Love Machine sucks at hanafuda and doesn't learn from its mistakes and will continue betting obscene amounts because...

Also, that scene where grandma was calling everyone had no result. ...it was one of her shining moments and it seems like nothing came of it.

And how they made the US the cause of all this... felt like they were attacking the country, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Makes no sense to even a grade schooler why anyone would run such a test on a huge public network that apparently had information like satellite codes (not a smart setup there either) or whatever if they wanted to get away with it.

I just wouldn't trust a pair of whales named John and Yoko. urgh.
