Netflix/Amazon/Adult swim didn’t influence anything.
The director Watanabe always had diverse characters in his shows since cowboy bebop.

Doug, look! That's Skinner, he's right there with glasses and a hat! He's right there! Even Dora the Explorer isn't that blind. Every little object or detail makes me think it's going to be important, like the pill Christine found or the flower at Skinner's grandmother's house. I don't think Skinner is the one who rigged the camera, so maybe he's one of the hackers Eleina mentioned. Maybe someone is helping him after all. |

I've noticed that the Amazon subs don't match what characters are saying in Japanese, like in the scene where Doug says "Huh?" in reply to Axel saying he can help if the professor was homeless, the subtitles say "Great". Also the "In laymen terms, please" Joss Whedonism scene made me cringe. |

First off, i like that the pairings are being circled around. We get to see some of the characters show their strengths and weaknesses. I will say though I am curious why in the hell half of them did get recruited. Hopefully more will be talked about later on. The action is still pretty damn cool. Though, I was like, "Damn, these guys getting jumped right off the bat." Seemed a bit too convenient but what do i know. I dont know how it is for the dub since i found english subs but I didnt really mind the....trans and black stuff that I know people these days hate. It was a very minor character and the whole point of giving their background, unless im reading too much into it, was to say that ppl ran to this place and its courtesy not to pry into their lives. So Doug mentions his backstory which is something not uncommon, some educator insulting his intelligence and he fought back and the man they are looking for is who they are looking for. And the leader agrees to help. Imo, the leader saw Doug was just looking to take information to find whereabouts on his professor without really justifying it. I understand peoples issues lately for media with just forcing minority groups into media and making that their only defining trait. However, I felt this was such a short interaction that it didnt bother me and that these are things that people today experience and hopefully Dougs character gets expanded on later on. I also didnt read the first episode discussions but man would this show really rally 'anti-vaxxers'. Take a drug just for it to kill you 3 years later would really make them say "I TOLD YOU SO". |

I wonder what's up with the low score? I mean, the animation up to ep3 has been S tier. Some of the best choreography in an action anime I've seen in awhile. And Mappa's use of CGI gives us some insane shots. Sure, the writing sometimes doesn't make sense. But a 7.6 feels criminal for something of this quality, especially in a quiet season like this. I've seen arguments about the show being 'woke', but looking at the stats it's not like Lazarus is getting review bombed with 1s. Perhaps it's too early to judge since we're only 3 episodes in... |

Another woke “sophisticated” episode from Demarcoified Watanabe anime. How DeMarco still has a job…Zaslav, if you’re listening, can this buffoon! This guy ruined FLCL and now Bebop, it’s gross! Nobody minds natural elements of story but this is all a paycheck for Watanabe. Give the dude money and let him cook, don’t photoshop his project. Why do suits have to get in the way? Who wanted a Bebop clone, why would the universe need this? Gotta hand it to him though, he sees western youth culture very cynically. We deserve it. Just think of what could’ve been made with some budget and shutting the f up about story details. If you think there weren’t strict western parameters to the deal then you’re botting or ignorant. And Carole and Tuesday was good, Space Dandy was good, this is painful. The dub, the generic character design…I would’ve rather had a direct Bebop sequel but they would’ve ruined that too. Hell a Champloo sequel. Lord, it’s insufferable. Not one real character here. Our suits are so dumb, man. Dumb dumb dumb. |

Runasius said: The fact that everyone has used the drug is what's unrealistic to me. You mean to tell me that every single human being on the face of the planet has tried Hapna before??? What about infants, what about people who don't have access to the drug? There's no way that every single person has tried it. Just because characters claimed that everyone in the world tried it, it doesn't make it true. Unless technology has advanced to a point where every single organism, or at least human, on the planet is guaranteed effectively tracked and monitored in an infallible database or people are omniscient gods who know the past activities of every other human on Earth, there is no way for the characters saying it to even reliably know. It could also be an exaggeration and hyperbole. Or just a "close enough" type of broad statement and estimate. I don't know why characters claiming something would lead people to believe that the series' author is trying to get the audience to believe it as an incontrovertible truth. It's what characters are saying in-universe, not something you're required to believe as a viewer in order for the premise and plot to work. |

This is so bad :/ I don't think the grandmother character saying that is meant to imply that they actually "didn't mean any harm". It's meant to imply that that's what the character thinks - she, a kindly old woman who has a connection to the locals and this neighborhood and probably lived here or around here her entire life. Because later she also says that her grandson, the Skinner we know as the scientist framed as an archvillain trying to exterminate billions of people and wipe out humanity, is still to her just the cute sweet boy she looked after. So it's clear that that is indicative of her outlook which sees mostly or only the positive aspects and good in people. At least people she already knows and loves/likes, like family, friends, and neighbors. This is very common in real life and an example of a realistic mindset and realistic dialogue. |

I'm bored. The detective stuff is weak. The concept is kind of stupid as well. I know the idea is that this is a "special team" or whatever, but given the doom that humanity is facing you'd think the anime would convey a world with hysteria/max anxiety, and that the team would be getting help from other divisions or international teams to track him down. I still sorta like the characters, but not really enjoying much else. I'd also likely enjoy it more if I was listening to the Japanese actors because goddamn do I hate like 99% of Western VAs. |

But transphiles like you keep ignoring reality and all arguments and instead insult everyone who criticizes this episode. Nobody is "mad" that there's a trans-woman. They don't need to genuinely believe it themselves in order to appear to readily accept the explanation so as to brush it off and go along with it, which better facilitates continuation of their mission. Their entire purpose for being there is to secure information and a potential new lead. With the local thugs outside appeared to have calmed down and backed off and the grandmother seeming willing to talk and potentially give them some valuable, even crucial info, I could see the characters just deeming it in their best interests to play along and make nice to keep the grandmother talking. Starting another fight over it at that moment with them and/or her wouldn't accomplish anything and possibly sabotage what they're there to do. Those people are nothing to them - they were just an obstacle en route to the grandmother's house. If they can be gotten out of the way by the grandmother making an excuse on their behalf and sending them away, it makes sense to just roll with it. All they need is for her to talk. |

@Old_School_Akira Buddy, no one cared if that character was trans I also do not recall if this character was ever being condesending about their Traaans situation. On this 3rd episode he was being asked about Dr. Skinner and then stops the conversation to talk about the struggles of trans people. If this isn't hitting any diversity quota checkboxes then I don't know what else needs to be done for people like you to see that it's not the "rIgHt WiNg ChUdS". @MyllerPhiem You said "these people were already discriminated against by society, so why the double-whammy?". Black people are heavily discriminated against. If you actually paid attention to the episode, the trans woman was more than just "Hey I am trans and life sucks". She not only brought insightful information to Axel and Doug, but it expanded on the lore of Axel who is the main character. Besides, as far as I am aware you and everyone else who is mad at this episode never complain when diversity is actually forced like FGO whitewashing Aztec gods or the Sailor Moon English dub removing the queer couple. But the moment a trans woman shows up, now you suddenly care about diversity being "forced". And aren't these the same people demanding "original trans characters" and shit among the lines of that? "Being black is normal" that tells me everything I need to know ab your incel ass. Go touch some grass. |

@MyllerPhiem I hate to break it to you but a lot of your favorite media is "woke". Attack on Titan is one of the most "woke" animanga out there. There are so many real world parallels that there's entire articles around them. Star Wars, the empire is inspired by America. One Piece tackles so many real world problems like slavery, racism, and human trafficking. The Fire Nation in Avatar: The Last Airbender is modeled after Imperial Japan in WWII. |

I think the "Skinner" that was in the homeless area, and the pill Christine found are red herrings; the "rare" lily given to Belinda, though???? Hmmmmmm....... |

The fact that everyone has used the drug is what's unrealistic to me.

@WatchTillTandava I can't believe we've gotten to the point where you have to explain this kind of thing to others. I mean, a lot of people seems to complain about the story being weak and dumb, but they don't seem to understand this kind of simple stuff, for ex, what a character says about their world doesn't necessarily reflect the truth of it, it's just what they perceive, kinda ironic. |

@Fukoku Yup it's sad how the definition of the term has become bastardized, I genuinely don't understand how these people don't get exhausted by being so miserable all the time. POC exist, women exist, LGBTQ people exist, them being present in media literally has no effect on anyone so for people to be losing their shit over that is just pathetic ๐ and they always claim that it's "pandering" or "virtue signaling" but conveniently they never explain HOW. They just see those groups represented in a show or game and throw that label on lmao. |

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime. Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait. MAL has literally become a brain dead extension of the worst and most moronic aspects of Twitter ๐ฃ๏ธ๐ฃ๏ธ๐ฃ๏ธ |

@James-LastOmnic I think myanimelist should remove this from thier list becuase its clearly said that non japanese produced shows or shows made for an external market aren't anime xd. Tho i have t osay some of the issues it presents even if not as cartoonishly presented in the show, are not fake, transgender homeless people are real, specially in highly empobrished cities or places where the culture isn't really in favor of something like this, you even got an example of one in Tokyo Godfathers. The racism shown tho, nowdays it wouldn't be so clear, they usually just keep it to themselves and fuck over them without telling them directly |
