You didn't give me or anyone in here squat.

Anyone making big statements must provide actual source or evidence of their claim. You can't convince anyone in here with just "google" the results, which can lead to an endless wild goose hunt. In the time you made the three replies you could have easily provided a link page with the alleged results of a hashtag being the number 1 topic in twitter in Japan. But you didn't (which leads me to believe is nothing but coping BS).

Whoever told you that people should "fetch" evidence in order to deny a false statement is just delusional.

The fact that an alt account with 2 posts is jumping in the ring to support a statement without TANGIBLE EVIDENCE just makes me even more suspicious.

No. Just no. That's not how human conversations work. You're free to distrust the information the other guy is providing, but demanding they prove it is just being obnoxious. If you want to start some sort of evidence-based process, the onus is on you to go and find evidence to the contrary.

@Casty06 Thanks for answering.
By the way was the VN by Key?
I really get that feeling i get with this which i get from other anime based on Key's work.
Like Clannad, Kanon, Air and Little Busters it's kind of when i mean with that early 2000's feeling.
@Aversa Yes, it is by Key. However, unlike Clannad or Air, it was not written by Jun Maeda, but remains similar to the other VNs produced by Key

Interesting start, it has all the classic tropes of visual novels from back then: a guy arrives on a sparsely populated island filled with girls and potential love interests. I'm especially intrigued by the supernatural aspect, with the blue dog-like creature and the symbolic butterfly. It also seems like the MC has a mysterious backstory.

MY VN FIRST LOVE IS HERE KYAAA~!!

I like how evenly paced this is. One moment we get a scene delivered as quick as possible, then the next, we get a calm idle scene. Retains the charm of this story! And ofc last but not the least, THE DISTINCT NOSTALGIC OSTs!! Truly Heja pu moment.
@EienGem I hope you screamed "TENZEN TENZEN TENZEN TENZEN TENZENNNNNNNNNNN" during the shirtless hunt scene

Analysis of the First Episode of Summer Pockets

This is a very introductory first episode, and if you're used to mid-2000s anime, it will feel very nostalgic. It gives off the vibe of a deeply Japanese anime, with no Westernization—which is something I really appreciate and enjoy. The protagonist, from this very first episode, shows some personality traits similar to Yuichi from Kanon or Tomoya from Clannad. This new protagonist might be a bit “less cool” at first, but the way he is introduced into the story feels just right.

The girls were just briefly introduced in this first episode, and as Key usually does, you can already sense the group dynamic that will eventually form, and that each girl will have her own “arc” or “problem to solve,” in true Key fashion.

I'm really looking forward to reading opinions about the Visual Novel, especially comparisons with other great works by Key. I'm left with a good feeling—it's a slow but steady start, full of 2000s anime vibes with modern animation.

Here are my impressions on this opening episode as someone who played the game (fairly recently).

The thing I'll mention first is that I am very happy they used the original soundtrack from the game so much. I mean, the music of the game is fantastic, so they would have been wrong to not use it :)
Another very positive thing is how little they cut/changed stuff compared to the game so far. The only small disappointment for me might be the 'shirtless guys' scene which I'm pretty sure was longer (unless I'm misremembering and the scene I'm thinking about happen later).
Ah, Umi was as adorable I was hoping for, the scene where they play rock-paper-scissors and the 'swim trunks club' bit (which reminds me another very positive thing for this adaptation: in the game, you make choices, a lot of them, and here we can't have all of the possible answers of course, so every time as far as I can tell they picked the funniest/silliest answer, out of the four you could choose from in the game, haha).
Of course, the people who have played the game will have picked up on Umi's little smile when Takahara compliments her fried rice.
I won't say anything more about that...

They really did a good job with the general atmosphere of the story in this first episode imo: they got the comedy tone pretty right (between the 'heja pu' and the 'dosukoi'), but also clearly some mysteries being hinted at here and there.
Shiroha's and Ao's introductions were almost as good as in the game.

Basically, I have pretty much only positives things to say about this adaptation so far.
I expect it will change because the game is very long and follows different timelines, as is always the case in this kind of game (depending on which girl you pick), which means they'll eventually have to cut some more important stuff but also change some stuff more radically.
Still, I'm optimistic for the next episodes, I felt so much nostalgia while watching this episode :)

@Kimurah How am I an alt account? Just because I don't waste my life away in discussion threads, doesn't make me an alt acc. Have you even bothered to look at my profile for 1 second to obviously realize I'm not an alt account?

holy fuck, you are making it seem like the info given is an end of the world statement. You have a problem with it trending on twitter in Japan?

Also, maybe, just maybe if you speak in a more polite way, maybe we would have given up 1 minute of our lives, which you obviously can't, to give you the source, but you speak in such a condescending way that I refuse to oblige

@MeguSae38 I think Summer Pockets can work more linear than other visual novels. Plus the OP seems to indicate that all four routes will be covered (I assume it'll be Tsumugi then Kamome then Aoi then Shiroha). But overall I really hope it turns out good!

@Yui_Yuigahama_ well it was mostly character introduction... also they are adapting in-game "events" into scenes, which will naturally makes it feel fragmented.

I have no idea if its the amazing art or something else but its something, so I'm keen to see if I'll continue watching this show this season.

The MC is quite mysterious, but I'm assuming that's the whole point of his character.

It's an adaptation of a Key visual novel, and they have a good track record for animes so I'm going to assume that this will do well.

So far, I like it and it's going to have 26 episodes so let's see if they can carry that momentum.

I've never heard of the visual novel before this, but I had an inkling watching the first episode that this was adopted from a visual novel, and I was right.

Everything from the timing of the jokes, sound design, and character internal monologues just screams visual novel. It's kind of ironic in a way that the main character mentions nostalgia that you feel of places you've never been to before and watching this episode gave me that feeling even though I never read the source material.

P.S. Protect Umi at all costs she's so precious πŸ₯Ί

I can only say 1 thing abt this 1st EP: It's so f*ing Key/Maeda Jun!!!
MC riding a scooter, shirtless, met another rando in the street, also shirtless. Then some rando girl on top of a tower shooting water gun at them, whilst the rando guy telling him to run, dramatically. The girl's shot got to the guy, he fell, dramatically, and the MC escapes.
That was so Angel Beats-like scenario.... That was so Key.....

Ofc, there's also Key's obsession with baseball in every of their titles as well....

I loved the visuals in this adaptation. The vibrant, crisp, clear colors and abundant details in each scene create a beautiful and immersive experience that I totally recommend. While I'm not typically a visual novel's enthusiast (having only dabbled in some of Key's titles), I believe we can analyze this animated medium on its own merits.

The multiple girls the main character encounters represent different paths he can take toward various endings in the visual novel. His grandmother's death represents the changing realities and uncertainties of life, while the young girls, or vegetation deities, embedded in idyllic nature, symbolize its fecundity and cyclic renewal, as well as innocence. The initial lack of details about the character's backstory leaves room for interpretation and invites us to engage with his inner struggles. The subtle contemplative atmosphere in some scenes further supports my point. Death is part of life, and it gives meaning to it.

The enigmatic old lady first encountered at the boat serves as a psychopomp, guiding the MC to this new world where he is going to confront his traumas. The recurring encounters with her represent his internal emotional work around life and death. There are many layers to this, and I'm eager to see how these interactions will move the story forward. The writing is excellent, and I'm totally enjoying it.

Relevant reading about the complexities involved in making this adaptation.

sleeping when it’s bright out and waking up around twilight… that vibe was weirdly relatable.
also that “Happy Meal”....was rather a diabolic combo lol.

it’s just got that soft summer energy, a nice start to this season. not sure what i was expecting but it left me feeling kind of empty in a calm way? like… nothing too dramatic happens, just a guy spending his summer on an island, everything’s mellow and normal—but maybe that’s what got me.

except that one line—him calling himself a “wounded bird of passage.” that keeps echoing in my head. i’m curious about that part, feels like there's something more there.

it’s not a special episode in the usual sense, but it still somehow held my full attention. and maybe that’s what makes it special.

Are you really this dense? Your babbling is on the same wavelenght on trying to produce evidence that god doesn't exist towards some crazy religious fanatic that claims to have evidence of it's existence.

Trials are based on providing evidence, not on proving the lack of it.

I like the relaxing summer vibe that this gives off and it's good that it's starting in the spring since there will be 26 episodes so this will air through the summer (I'm assuming this is airing without a break).

Regarding the MC, Hairi, it appears that he was in a swimming club and something happened to him where he claims he has a broken heart and I don't think it's related to his grandma passing away unless a connection is made later on. Anyways, I'm looking forward to watching the storylines with the island girls play out and also learning about Hairi's background.
