This episode kinda serves as a cautionary warning for Godou and the others. I don't blame Kiyoka for being more protective towards Miyo. Their relationship has obviously been much more closer so he wants to protect her.

Godou's reaction is kinda interesting after learning who Miyo's bodyguard is. This kinda felt like a buldup episode into something more....

Yeah like not sure how many people have claimed their ownership over Miyo at this point. Though hey, I can feel this man being better than that bumass of a father Miyo had to suffer with last season. I mean that’s not even a standard, but yeah had to compare because he was calling Miyo his daughter. But yeah, as we know now Miyo has people who care for her, and will do everything to protect her, so yeah, good to see she gained a friend in that lady officer.

I was expecting Kaoruko to say she likes Kiyoka as well when she was going on and on about how she and Miyo are alike lol. Though hey, nothing unneeded here. I hope Miyo somehow learns something from her. She seemed like a sweet and strong girl after all. Btw, this Usui guy is a creep by birth it seems. I hope we’d see more of him where he’s actually acting normal. Pretty chill episode overalll, but yeah, what's the surprise over Kaoruko's name in the end? xD

As we have already seen last week, our dear Miyo is in some deep waters, you see her presumed father decided to show up, and he seem like quite a problem, whos up to no good ?

And so as a precaution it was decided that our Miyo will be having her very own shadow assigned to her, to protect her. A very lively girl named Jinnouchi, she and Miyo kicked it right off between them.

I liked the in period talk between them, about men and women and their places, again very in period that this show is certainly based off.

She is...? Quite the cliffhanger, I wonder if Kaoruko has any ulterior motives towards Miyo.

Damm Creepy father coming after his daughter. Sense manipulation sounds pretty OP. Nice that Miyo got assigned a bodyguard. Kiyoka can't be everywhere at once after all. Jinnouchi seems to be a decent person and given their the same age would be an excellent friend for Miyo as well. The tour of the station though sure had the unintended effect of showing how bad the men are at cleanup. Not to mention the kind of discrimination that women faced as well despite having abilities equal to the men around her. Though it would be tough its nice seeing Miyo make a start at overturning it by doing what she does best.

If it wasn't enough that Miyo had a crappy father, now there's a troubled nutcase obsessed with her, thinking he's her father just because he was a childhood friend of her mother's.

As for Kaoruko, I had a feeling I was going to like her because of her appearance in the OP. She befriended Miyo, but she doesn't seem to know that Miyo is her boss's wife. Kaoruko deserves more recognition from the army. I doubt Kiyoka would choose her as Miyo's bodyguard just because she's a woman, so at least not all the men in the barracks discriminate against her.

Sumi as a child really resembled Miyo.

We meet Kaoruko who is also voiced by the VA of Morgiana in Magi. She is an important character.

Finally, we get to hear Miyo's doubts as to her inability to use her gift well. She also thought those things in the Kudou villa arc but it was cut from the anime.

The misogyny is annoying. The only consolation we have is that Miyo had experienced far worse things than those.

The colour choices in the Usui encounter at the train station is so sensuous.

ETA: From this episode till the end, it's all about PLOT, PLOT, PLOT, and all the people who hate the supernatural aspects will have a weeping amd gnashing of teeth. (I love the supernatural aspect of this show. BWAHAHAHA)

There are some emotional moments though, and I hope these are not neglected and omitted in speedrunning to LN 6.

@Narizor She knows she is Kiyoka's fiancée.

What Miyo doesn't know at this point is that Kaoruko...well, you will find out next week. hehehe

Kiyoka eating bento is actually quite clever because he can silently brag to everyone in his workplace that his fiance made it for him.

Miyo made her first girlfriend her age in Kaoruko! She’s got her childhood guy friend from back home and then Kiyoka’s older sister, but having a girlfriend her age should do wonders for her. Enjoyed seeing them get close today. But I also feel bad for Kaoruko because of the discrimination she’s likely faced in the military like having to go to a restroom outside the main building :/

More Naoshi and Sumi backstory! Man lemme find out that’s really Miyo’s dad 😭 . Naoshi as a kid gives off Damian from the Omen vibes. All that power in the hand of a mentally unstable kid is never a good thing. It’ll be interesting to see what made him what he is now.

I love these Miyo and Kiyoka moments lately. They’re so peaceful and warm and you can see in Miyo’s eyes how much at peace and calm she feels around him now. It wasn’t easy, took a lot of reassurance and love, but she’s much more expressive and vocal now.

Kinda crazy a supposed military unit can’t keep a kitchen clean though lmao. Good set up episode

A fun episode, but I'm a little concerned that this organizaton is calling itself a military venture if it isn't even organized enough to keep the kitchen clean. A modern military would dismiss it as some kind of backwards, podunk outfit on that alone.

Good ol misogyny you love to see it...

Usui kiling those ant scene was really detailed and kinda pleasant ngl.
I think Sumi could have "fixed" this guy. If that Miyo's dream anything to go by. Because she wasn't there these guy became what he is. Saimori family and that previous emperor are cause of more & more trouble.

So we're up against someone with Aizen powers.

We also get a bodyguard Kaoruko I like her so far but from the end I wonder if she's more than she seems or something?

Kaoruko is an interesting character. I'm glad that she and Miyo became fast friends and the tour that she Miyo of the military barracks was very enjoyable. Kaoruko also had the chance to showcase her skills at the dojo, which she won her sparing match easily. Despite dealing with the heckling from the others simply because of her gender, she didn't let that effect her at all, thankfully.

We also got a bit more insight of Naoshi and what he was like when he was younger, with him being pretty twisted even back then. He was pretty close to Sumi back then. Hopefully we'll get to see more of this backstory and how Naoshi ended up going further off the rails to what he was in the present.

The episode did end on a suspenseful note, with a bit of uncertainty over Kaoruko. I do hope that she doesn't have any ulterior motives, as she has been a nice character as a whole for this whole episode and towards Miyo in particular. I can only wait and see if my worries about her are correct or are wrong in due time.

Kaoruko is very cool so far as Miyo's female bodyguard and she has powers too, she doesn't step out and let herself be drowned in this world of males no matter what they say, though there seems to be some secret about her? Anyway the Usui teasing proves that Miyo has still a lot to learn about her powers

Watching the scene protagonists are talking about lunch and bento, I wondered when the man has changed from that curt to this affectionate manner (tsun to dere). As there was some interval between the seasons, I have completely lost the track.

I took the "she is...." ending to mean that he is in love with her. I don't get the feeling she is one of Usui's followers. To make it in the military and to the point she has she should be vetted. I could be wrong, but this is the feeling I have been left with. Miyo asking about not making lunch anymore is kind of lame imo. Why would he want to eat commissary food instead of the home cooked meals the woman he loves makes for him? When will she finally start to grow some confidence and understand what she means to this man?

I like Kaoruko so far. It's nice to see Miyo making a friend and getting out into the world more and more.

I don't really follow the logic of Miyo being an enemy to others with abilities, though, that scene confused me.

Jinnouchi is... what? problematic? a bad person? an spy?... gay? Not gonna lie, I was kinda curious to know what the bedridden dude was about to say.

Other than that, it was an uninteresting episode overall.

@Marinate1016 Well, men's fraternities in a female fiction are the same as female sisterhood in men's. You can easily expect the strangest or superficial stereotypes. Although I can easily believe that the soldiers in the conditional beginning of the 20th century are not a high opinion of female colleagues.
