The gender and age of cast doesn't decide the demographic, its the situations, themes, violence, sex, cruelty that decides the demographic... Stories like Made in Abyss, Attack on Titan can be easily classified as Seinen even on the first look it doesn't seem like that... Why don't you wait for 6 episodes to really decide whether this story is a Seinen or not
@Kira_Illusionist

Your nonsense demographic definition ignores the fact how demographic is determined is not about themes, violence, sex or whatever but simply the decision of the publisher along with the mangaka. Otherwise manga like K-On or Kaguya-sama would be shounen instead of seinen. Not to mention, demographic could change depending on the situation like Vinland Saga which started as shounen manga then became seinen. Made in Abyss is a webmanga therefore it does not have a demographic otherwise it would be seinen. And Attack of Titan's poularity is a testament of it being a shounen manga, it has nothing to with "situations, themes, violence, sex, cruelty".

@JoeChip I'll talk about Kaguya sama... In 2nd season of Kaguya sama the whole situation of Ishigami Yuu in his old school, everything about that screams Seinen... Although the author did deal the situation tastefully enough so it could be a shonen, but he could also dealt with it a bit more cruelly, a bit more raw which would make it Seinen... Even Kaguya's family plot, everything about it IS Seinen... When Kaguya sama started publishing, the author might not know how he would deal with these topics and wanted the freedom of Seinen magazine to go hard if he wanted to

JoeChip said:

Yes, True... What are the parameters does the mangaka base his decision upon? Its the "situations, themes, violence, sex, cruelty"... Just like you said, shonen is more popular and hence more money right... Then why did Kaguya sama author decide to publish it in Seinen?? Because the freedom Seinen magazine gives to the authors when dealing with "situations, themes, violence, sex, cruelty", especially when the story is just in your mind and you don't know how tastefully it will come out when you put it on paper

Attack on Titan is an exception not the rule in shounen manga with the cruelty, violence, blood... Its the testament to the publisher to give the necessary freedom to deal with such situations, but honestly it is a Seinen story through and through

You are also forgetting about Shoujo, Josei when we are talking about demographics... Every single show you mentioned cannot be Shoujo or Josei... K on is 4 teenage girls forming a band right... It should be reasonable to assume it would be published in Shoujo or Josei right... But K on will never ever be published in Shoujo or Josei, because the gender and age of cast doesn't decide the demographic, its the situations, themes, violence, sex, cruelty that decides the demographic... K on situations and themes are purely shonen/Seinen that's why it is published in Shonen/Seinen

It's ironic how a guy with a Naruto character baits mal users with his supposed seinen elitism just because mal people can'T ignore the bait because of their ego and write essays to correct the troll OP.

Reading all these comments on this forum was the most useless thing I've done this year.

Replying to the main forum post: yes, that's what seinen anime is these days. If you don't like effeminate characters, it would be better not to watch it, but since you said you will give it a chance, good luck. But I don't recommend it, considering that you yourself said that you don't like effeminate characters.

@mccreepyy thats kinda my point...how or why does a weak looking main cast that looks like they belong in a CGDCT anime meant for young teens & beta-male trash weebs end up with main roles in a seinen meant for adults?

have the standards dropped so hard?
@ItachiDeltaForce Well, if you haven't noticed, this is an anime adaptation of a pretty old manga that started like 21 years ago (back in 2004), so well, rather than standards dropped so hard, it's more like those were the standards way back then.

@eplipswich

This is not about the standards and the mangaka simply draws his characters that way and he clearly has some shotacon fetish and makes his childish looking mc have random sex with older women especially in the earlier parts of the story

u have garbage standards

Like I said, Crayon shin chan is an adult comedy sitcom. What you are referring to is "Adult Cast". You sound like "I hate this cuz it has children, dogs, cats, girls, idols, etc and if it has cute stuffs, it is not manly to watch and seinen needs to be something manly". It doesn't matter if the main character is a kid or the art style is not edgy, it's the "story" that matters. You are saying that 12 yo shouldn't be the mc but what if he has a dark past and trauma and his backstory is like that of Guts or something. Trauma, tragedy, etc doesn't depend on age. If you can't understand the depth of a character just cuz he/she is 12 yo shows that you are not mature enough for the demographic itself and instead are looking for something really dark and edgy. Let me tell you that a demographic and a genre are different. Also, This anime fits right into the group of dark fantasy with Berserk, Claymore, etc. If looks bother you, then you are still not at the age where you are specifically a target audience for this demographic. A story doesn't need serious looking adult characters to be seinen as the story defines what is Seinen. If it something older men will understand and have interest in, it is Sienen.

@utopia- I disagree, this thread is very entertaining watching people lose the plot over a few cute characters in a seinen show.

just look at the main cast for example...just more generic looking 12 year old little girls.... pathetic.

have fun sitting thru 12-22 episodes of pain suffering them.

if brother have created seinen story then character would look mid 20's atleast because according to him
seinen is mature story therefore mature themes and stuffs can be portrayed or explored by mainly mature character, because mostly 12 year old kid cant understand or deal with that kind of conflicts,
and when anime is going to be dark seinen Fantasy with 12 year old kid there would be no complex Theme or stuff which really badly makes a person struggle internal and external. after seeing 12 year old kid, it seems like creator is just going to create situation where people will be helpless weak like a kid and protecting them is glorious thing which is surface level stuff Tagged as seinen

i think brother is saying, it seems to him that seinen is not truly justified and there would be just crying torture in name of mature dark fantasy just because there is main cast of kids

i anticipated this anime and ep 1 is disappointment for me because i have check 2 chapter just to get idea what this anime is going to be because manga is rated good so i dont know whats coming next snd should i continue watching it,
with that doubt i come on mal to check people reactions
where i find this discussion where brother and manga readers are discussing but i thought brother is not Explaining actual stuff nor peopleare trying to understand
& i understand why is this like that
there i have wrote his thing with my experience

so any advise regarding ubel blatt
should i continue or what do you think please share

@ItachiDeltaForce what an artfully tone deaf comment. Cute women can't exist in a more serious tone? Do they not exist IRL? Have you met one before?

Watching anime for 28 years without ever touching a manga or light novel is wild.

You're missing out on great stuff. The Übelblatt Manga is leagues above this anime adaption. The Naruto manga too btw. The amount of filler you have to suffer through must be mind-numbing. At least give Übelblatt volume 0 a chance. It takes only 1 and a half hours for new readers to finish a volume. The manga is like a little brother of Berserk. You won't regret it.

This one is off topic but I don't care: If you strictly refuse to read fantasy novels, you're also missing out on one of the greatest light novels and webtoons of all time, "Return of the Blossoming Blade". That one will probably not get an anime adaption any time soon, yet it has the most memorable MC I've ever seen in a work of fiction in my 32 years of life. The man carries war trauma and survivers regret while being a funny and annoying jerk on the outside that saves and improves the lives of pretty much every person he meets, putting his own wellbeing constantly behind others. The novel makes me laugh, cry and hate things at the same time. It's a crime how underrated that novel is.

@JoeChip While the publisher's decision is indeed important, mangas like K-On have their place in seinen magazines. Since they began to be populariin the 2000s, most CGDCT shows, moe, and so on have targeted adults in the first place.
