Nice idea punch!~

Very strong first episode. Wasn't expecting this level of comedy but the emotional moments were executed nicely and I can already see myself getting quite invested in Inori and Tsukasa's story. Looking forward to the next episode!

I think I just found my new favourite anime of the season! I'm already as invested and hyped as her coach to witness Inori's journey on becoming a pro figure skater and it's only episode 1!!! Not to mention the amount of tears and feels this episode had alone! This kind of emotional stuff is something I'd expect waaaay later in an anime, not at the beginning lol 😂 Also gotta love just how much of a emotional wreck Inori is, just makes you wanna hug her and tell her everything is gonna be alright 😅 Girl failures ftw! Also gotta love the comedic chemistry between the coach and his boss 😂 Too bad this anime is in Disney+ jail, guess that means a bunch of people won't be watching it 😕

I have a few questions. First of all, was the original manga so bittersweet and emotionally cheesy? Secondly, is there any romance here? Of course, not between the coach and Inori. And how long will the plot continue to develop this theme of emotional trauma for the characters?

Loved it!!!

Tsukasa's a funny dude, although at the start he scared poor Inori to the extent she put herself in mortal danger! wtf dude?

Anyways, Inori's adorable. I'm hoping we'll see her suffer and cry less from now on. She's too sweet and must be protected.

@RobertBobert emotionally cheesy?

Well. Medalist is a drama. If you expect, as most here do, that it's going to be "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" only, then no, it won't be.
... As long as the adaptation sticks to the originals, of course.

@Kalmir Medalist? Cute girls doing cute things? Lol, what? I didn’t see anything like that and couldn’t even think about classifying the story into this genre.

I have a lot to say about this show but I am gonna try keep this short:
1) That guy (an adult btw!!) is so petty, that he follows a little girl just because she skates for free. Not only that he has been having so much pity with himself just because he didn't start ice skating earlier. Making it all about having to be the best and how starting "too" late makes you like you can never can catch up with the rest
2) That mom is the worst mom ever, comparing your kid to your other kid and making it all about having to be good. Like why can't your kid just have fun?! You are definitely setting your kid up with tons of pressure and feel like having to preform. So congrats with the worst mom of the year award.

I hate dropping anime's but honestly if this one doesn't get better before 3/ at 3 I have to drop this. It's so dramatic so awful and that guy is really creepy. At least the CGI isn't too bad even though it's obvious it's CGI.

@Hearts4MyLover You're calling one of the few people who doesn't consider Inori a failure petty? A man who will dedicate his life to fulfill her dreams a creepy?

@Kalmir Yup that’s exactly what I said, he is petty and creepy. I said what I said. I couldn’t care less if someone got in for free like good for them, but that guy he felt the need to ask an actual child if she paid even though it’s like non of his business. This guy on the other end doesn’t want to see people get in for free because he couldn’t get in for free.

Creepy for sure too, I don’t think I need to add to that other than saying I would keep my kid far away from him.

@Hearts4MyLover Her mother may be overprotective, but it is normal to fear for her youngest child when the older one has already suffered with it.

Good start to this series that I'm going into blind. I thought that Inori was paying for skating via worms because her family didn't have much money but it looks like it was more because she kept her skating secret from her mom and therefore was on her own.

Regarding Tsukasa, even though he also started skating seriously later than most kids he made it to nationals with the female coworker so it sounded like he stuck with it despite the discouragement from those around him. On that note I think he'll make the perfect coach to Inori although I wonder what setbacks she will encounter, hopefully nothing career ending like her sister.

I'm really tired of exaggerated comedic faces and anime about kids, I liked the first episode but i enjoyed it more when I thought it was mainly going to be about tsukasa. Hope this girl isn't as annoying as Anya it reminds me of spy x family faces already. Maybe I'm just bitter because I want Yuri on ice instead 😂

Ice dancing (where he and the brunette made it to nationals) is significantly less prestigious as a sport, compared to solo figure-skating, which Inori is attempting. Because Tsukasa started so late, it was hopeless for him to become a figure skater, while in ice dancing the male role is more of a support for the lady. Tsukasa is visibly bothered that he couldn't make a solo careeer.

What exactly did you expect from Jukki Hanada? (the scriptwriter of Girls Band Cry, YoriMoi / Antarctica, Hibike Euphonium and Stein's Gate, etc. anime) Medalist will certainly be dramatic but end up a good anime in his hands, e.g. Stein's Gate is all-time #4 on MAL with 9.07 score.

1) That was pretty much my reaction as well. The introduction of Tsukasa is not that great. But this strange behavior does not come up again in the following episodes. I think the dynamic of the two is really well done. In particular I love the scene in episode 2 where he calms Inori down with a little trick.
2) I somewhat agree here in the sense that yes, the mother could've let Inori skate for fun. But Inori wants much more and then ice skating does not only become dangerous (as seen by her sister) but a big time investment and also expensive.

I see, that makes sense as to why he was bothered even though he went to nationals, because he did ice dancing instead of solo figure skating. Knowing that I can tell that he is motivated in helping Inori out as much as he can and hopefully have her succeed where he didn't.

I feel stupid saying it's “too Japanese”, but that's the only problem I find with this beginning. The Japanese drama is not very believable, maybe it's because I watched it dubbed.... but I don't think a 12 year old girl would use words like “I want to be the best version of myself” unless she has a psychoanalyst mother, I don't know.... not believable. Also the humor at the end of the episode makes it hard for me to take it all seriously. And the coach yelling. No, it's not funny.

But outside of the horrible tone at the end the idea is fine and the anime looks nice

What a great premiere episode!!

No joke it legit got me tearing up during the last scene.

Inori was so precious, i can't help but cheering her all the way after just one episode.
