Novak is a clever man, intentionally didn't go for the kill blow in that fight. I have to admit in that in these recent episodes, Novak really has caught my attention in his methods of operation. The way he tries to get his job done is intriguing psychologically and gives a glimpse of what humans are capable of doing in this show. |

Oczy almost won that bout with Nowak but lost because of those extras. So, now both Badeni and Oczy have been captured and are being tortured by Nowak who's going to use all the ways to make them talk about the things he want to know. I'm seriously hoping for them to survive this somehow. Maybe, Jolenta will somehow help. |

My rational side gets why Badeni did it but man, the sight of Oczy's book burning evoked such a primal rage within me lmao Given it's Badeni I can't be completely sure with how overly safe he is but something is screaming at me that this "ravine" he mentioned has a slim chance of being one that everyone, especially Nowak, is very well-acquainted with. |

Well if Novak knew Badeni was lying, then he'd realize the other lie he thought about the collaborator.Had a feeling Badeni didnt get rid of the chest, wonder if it got to do with the beggar he asked help for before. Man Oczy wouldve won too,but even worse Badeni couldnt get away anyways. Was expecting Oczys tho since they alr spoiled it at the first begining minute of the show. |

Man the fact Oczy had Nowak bum ass beat off raw strength and swordplay alone, and gets taken down by some stupid ass archers is so annoying to me. What happened to honor in a duel 🤦🏽♂️ Nowak talked all that shit about needing to be prepared to die, I expected him to come into this one as a totally different animal and he folded damn near in a few seconds lol. NOO BADENI DIDNT GET AWAY??! What was bro doing? All Nowak said was he “is one of us” so did he try seeking refuge with a church or something? With Rafal’s research being burned up and Oczy in possession of the necklace, that basically leaves no trace of their work other than Jolenta who I’m still worried about. That does bring me to the point Nowak brought up about “why do heretics keep popping up” gee maybe if you listened to them and stopped killing everyone who challenged the church’s authority and teachings, it wouldn’t be so bad. When you suppress things with violence it only makes people want to do them more. Every authoritarian regime in history as learnt that. But at the same time, it’s easy to judge the people of this time period as being dumb or resistant to change. But it’s easy to do that from 500 years in the future. Are we really so different as a society now? Sure it might not be about Heliocentrism, but we still attack those who think differently than us and shun theories that challenge what we’re comfortable with. It’s one thing to be ready to die, but to have your mouth broken open the way Oczy is gonna go thru next week.. fuck we’ll really see how strong Badeni is. Respect for not selling out Jolenta.. but how long will he be able to hold out. Also burning Oczy book was so messed up 😔 |

The fight scene did look amazing but during that bit the character designs themselves felt a little bit off. Truly unfortunate that Badeni was caught... If Nowak knows that Badeni is lying about the research materials then where is it? |

@MickeyMinaj I don't know if you've read the manga, but they could've nailed the finale of cour 1 (if it's okay to call it like that) much better, unless that finale will be in the next ep - the right time for new kv and maybe op/ed too. Now, the next big event will probably happen in the middle of the next ep, which might not be as impactful as I expect. Still, as a whole, this anime is great. Maybe some titles or at least episodes are better for binge-watching than weekly |

The pacing was slow but I still found it to be a solid buildup episode to next week, which I assume has a bigger payoff to result from this. There is still one key piece in this whole equation to be figured out, and that is Jolenta, Novak's own daughter, in this whole situation since she's the only one not there or 'caught' amidst these collaborations. I haven't read the manga but I assume that's the key piece in play for the research materials to still exist for the time being, but I assume that Novak's the kind of person that would be willing to take down even his own blood at the name of herecy? Intrigued to see what has happened with the materials and how the direction of the story would seem to shift. |

What a family friendly episode to commemorate Christmas, don't you think? Before of anything, can we think how we are already halfway through the anime? It's going by so fast! I honestly thought this episode would go in a different way. I thought we would already get the end of the story of this generation, and the very start of the next one, ending that way the 1st cour, but Orb, once again surprised me. First, Oczy would have won against Nowak if he didn't have backkup, so yeah, GO OCZY! Then we got a more metaphorical scene with Oczy and his teacher (the same one that made him traumatized if I'm not mistaken), where Oczy ends up realizing that all he wants is Freedom, Freedom from those eyes that are always looking down on him from the sky, Freedom from this "Almost Hell" that Earth supposedly is, Freedom from having to always worry about what is coming up next, and if he's heading to heaven. And this Freedom comes with the heliocentrism theory, because it gives him (and the whole population I feel like) a different perspective from Earth, and start questioning the "rules" that Nowak mentioned. This scene is really impactful, because we can see that this theory is much more than just a scientific theory for those that like astronomy, but it's also that is going to be important for the social development of the society too. I was really surprised to see that Badeni actually got caught! That scene where they show Oczy's face, and then cut to Oczy's face all beaten down, it was CRUEL. After 1 week of being unconscious, he didn't deserve that. It's interesting to see that Nowak still remembers Rafal from 10 years ago, and that he feels like he has been negligent about his work, for not being able to find out Rafal's research, that lead up to his own daughter being involved. But in all this, one thing I can be sure of: Oczy's last speech to Badeni made him change up his mind, and I'm sure he got caught while having a plan, for the research to continue, by the hands of others. And I even think that Badeni wanted to get caught too, to not let Oczy be the only one too, but it might have been because he didn't have time. But the treatise that he left with the inquisition surely is something to distract them from the real deal. The episode ends showing that Badeni was right when he said that they had to be ready for the eternal nightmare of torture... Poor Oczy, he didn't deserve this, but at the same time, it seems like he's more at peace with himself now, that he was back in episode 4, which is really interesting. For those that didn't check out, it's still spoilerly, but I recommend rewatching the first 30 seconds of the 1st episode! It will make the ending of this episode much darker... (but of course, SPOILERS). Anyways, I wonder if they're changing the opening and the ending next episode. Although it doesn't feel the the 1st cour is "over", we are at episode 13, so it's common for them to change the openings and endings around this time. But at the same time, I really doubt they are changing the ending. Madhouse didn't do that with Frieren, and this ending in particular is not only having a lot of success, but the way they designed it seems like it's ready to have the next generation on it, since in episode 2 only Rafal appeared in the 3 shots they have of characters walking, now they have Rafal, followed by Oczy and Badeni, and then Oczy, Badeni and Jolenta, so I suppose when the 3rd generation comes, it's going to be Rafal -> Oczy, Badeni, Jolenta -> New characters Or maybe they'll just change everything, who knows. But I'm curious. The opening isn't still on Spotify, so it's kinda sad if we aren't seeing it anymore, and I can't even listen to it on Spotify. Talking about Jolenta, I wonder what will happen to her... I was really happy to see that Badeni ended up protecting her in the end, when initially he was ready to use her as a shield. I wonder if she's going to be the piece to make this research continue to move on and pass to the next generation! I just hope she doesn't die (since Oczy and Badeni seem like they aren't going to be lucky in that aspect...), but with this anime you really can't trust anything. |

@18927 The way it is paced rn, I wouldn't be surprised if they stretch the next ep to the point that the 'big event' still happens in the next ep ending, idk like extending the conversation or visuals with bgm. I can only hope tho, otherwise ik exactly where it could end But knowing the rest, I kinda think this arc was the peak even in the manga. Next arcs are great but the current arc was peak for me, can't say I mind the slow pacing when I get to enjoy it even more right? Badeni the effing GOAT of this series |

I don't agree, he clearly stated in episode 2 (I think, maybe it was 1), that he was doing what he was doing to protect his daughter from the herectics, and not particularly due to Church's ideals. I don't know what he's going to do with Jolenta being an herectic herself, but I don't think if he ends up killing that it's going to be willingly to "protect" the world from the herectics. |

Their brief fight scene was pretty cool, until a bunch of arrows rained in on the parade. Oczy was willing to risk his life in the end, and in a one on one probably would've overpowered the inquisitor. But instead, the tables are reversed and he's still alive... but out of commission. Guess the writing goal of his won't be as long lived as some might hope. His dream on the brink of death probably would have been his ideal life. The life outside of combat, pursuing different things. Nothing like wounds to help stir your mind about what you truly desire. Suppose this talk in the inquisitor chamber is a bit of a wind down from the action of this episode opening and last ep. But he arrived at what he truly wanted, freedom. The uno reverse card of making Oczy into the bargaining chip tho. Suppose it's true a guy who's prepared to die for his beliefs isn't the ideal torture victim. But hey, Badeni has guts too ya know. The did open the gates of torture to burn every research book outside of the one thing they confiscated. Nothing like a little back and forth between Nowak and Badeni tho. They're bringing out the materials now o_o |

Wow, what an intense episode! It’s so frustrating and nerve-wracking that just when Oczy seemed close to a breakthrough, more inquisitors showed up to assist Nowak. The timing of their arrival is certainly suspicious, and it’s a mystery how they managed to find Badami. Even though they burned all the research, it feels like no one will believe them, and poor Oczy is bound to face torture. I share your hope that they find a way out of this mess, but Jolenta’s potential intervention seems like a long shot. |

This anime is undoubtedly good, but unfortunately I noticed that it is saturated with anti-Catholic propaganda, and if you don't know the real story, it may seem like it was like that. Like I said before, as for heliocentrism in general, it has never been generally banned. The mathematical model was used in research without any prohibition. It was not allowed to take this one model as a real representation of the motion of the planets. The works of Copernicus, which contained his model of the heliocentric system, were allowed to be published, but without stating that this was the final truth. The heliocentric doctrine, to which Copernicus was joined by Buridan, Albert of Saxony, Nichole Oresme, Nicholas of Cusa, Leonardo da Vinci and Benedetti (none of whom had ever been in trouble with the Inquisition), was condemned only as 'an error of faith' and not as heretical. There is a very good book on this subject by Western author Tom Woods, "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilisation", chapter on the Church and Science. |

Throughout the whole episode you can feel the menacing aura coming from Nowak. That's how you portray an antagonist, with not only conviction in his beliefs but a point of view that can resonate even if it may conflict with the audience. We all know what's gonna happen next and there's not way around it but even so it doesn't make the journey any less engaging. They are both going to die and the torture is not only for them but for us as we get to witness the process slowly but surely. What I wonder though is just what's gonna happen to Jolenta after all this ordeal is over. Make no mistake, I'm not complaining about this development, far from it considering I've been on the edge of my seat for a while. At least we got to see what the tower in the opening is. |

Nowak captures all, but just how much will he learn? The more of this anime I watch, the more I like Nowak's character. The guy is a seasoned veteran, with how clever he is to leave Oczy alive, and to catch Badeni as well. He does not jump to conclusions, but does not let his prey get off easily either. The psychological warfare he dishes out to the captured is very effective. I did expect a bit more to happen in this episode, but it seems like that will be next week instead. Yet another week of waiting for this arc to be over, but I am not complaining whatsoever. |

Definitely a very strong episode, getting into the philosophy of freedom that is at the heart of this show, imo. I know its stating the obvious but Nowak is an interesting example of a psychopath. He's intelligent, loves his daughter, calm, normal in almost every way but instinctively sides with authority and has zero empathy for its enemies. But I would say actually many people are potentially like that to some degree but, thankfully, rarely have the opportunity to put it in practice. Can't help thinking about Nazi Germany, or Stalinist Russia when I watch this show.. |

@Cersil Not anti-catholic, just exaggerating the evil stuff the catholic church did in medieval times for the sake of storytelling. The catholic church nowadays is more forward thinking but back then, they were pretty much the same or even worse than islamic extremists. |

Dammit Oczy should have gotten the Win! He totally deserved it too. Torture ... ugh. I guess I'm happy they alluded to most of it instead of showing it. It's a pity Oczy is gagged, and that neither of them even mentioned they were "misled" by the witch, Jolenta. I didn't think I could hate Nowak more but I do especially at the end. This is probably one of the anime of the season right now. New, different, loads of tension, just all around great. |

Oczy put up a good fight and got cheated. Seems Oczy turned out to be a lot more clever than Badeni in social matters seeing all his predictions are correct. I'm not sure if keeping out Jolenta's involvement is the smart move or a dumb move. Even if one were to assume Badeni had a turn of heart it would be reasonable to think such a father as Nowak in how he behaves may not do harm to his daughter, however he also may react violently. |

@Cersil It's not propaganda just the usual occasional historical inaccuracies and narrative dramatizing you see in all media on anything in a historical setting but you're seemingly downplaying the things the church did on a wider scope, depending who was Pope at the time as it varied. Your source is a book written by a Neo Confederate White Nationalist historical revisionist. It seems pretty clear someone like that would have a huge bias when writing on "history" even if he were to get some things correct. Copernicus's views weren't immediately thought to be a threat to the church's power. His writings he did not publish till close to his death. They were later banned after Galileo's trial. When he died was put in an unmarked grave. He was much later reburied once his DNA was identified https://www.discovermagazine.com/the-sciences/copernicus-gets-a-new-grave-belated-respect-from-the-catholic-church Galileo was charged with "strong suspicion of heresy". https://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/the-truth-about-galileo-and-his-conflict-with-the-catholic-church |
