Dennis got his balls back.

I would've liked to actually hear the Power & Aki convo/Reze conversation, but it is what it is. I just want to see the arc end at this point.

AHHHH... some few moments of old adorable characters. Denji seems like he wanted to give up but Pochita is right there with him. Denji now has something he wants to live for even after those horrible experiences he had in his life so far. Get up, Denji.

A super smart plan incoming.

Denji is a very good representation of someone who is chronically depressed and suicidal but knows nothing about those concepts in general. He’s feeling these things but he’s unaware of what they are, so he just verbalizes them like a child would, but I find that so endearing. He just wants to have a good, normal life🥺

bitterness devil

pochita intentionally ate devils that correlate to denji's important memories, puking them back up in order to remind denji of the positive moments in his life
snow = hokaido trip with aki and power
bitterness = coffee and reze

Not just Aki and Power, but we briefly got Reze back too. I thought we would get flashback conversations but even just seeing them for a panel or two was enough. Let’s see what’s this super smart plan Denji thought up.

Denji's character development is astounding: he lives for grub and girls! 😂 It's about time he developed a smart idea to get out of that creepy forest. The barfing of the Devils and the memories (Power, Aki, Reze, Nayuta, Pochita) sparked the plan that Chainsaw Man's stomach still exists real life. Glad Asa is there to help. 😄 Also note, the puked snow devil relates to the Hokkaido trip. The puked bitterness devil relates to the coffee with Reze.

Great chapter!!! So Denji is just remembering these events because of the devils he's barfing up, and Pochita is helping him remember. It looks like Denji is a unique case here because he is a Hybrid, I wonder if he is going to be able to get out for the sheer fact that he's Denji? With Pochita inside of him Pochita can have him barf stuff up so that they can escape.

If Chainsaw Man's body is in the real world that means ... what? I'm not sure, they can escape for sure but I wonder how. Is Denji gonna vomit nuclear weapons back up !? Who knows! We'll see!

@sillywackygatto I am clinically depressed and this is certified trash.

Motivation used in this chapter won't help no one in the long run, hell, people may dive even deeper into their self-loathing and sadness.
A lot of depressed people gain weight from over-eating or develop other bad habbits (smoking, drinking, gambling etc). It's important to find ways to cope with the illness, but solving the problem is 1) finding help outside (certified professionals + support from the friends/family/loved ones) and 2) finding strength inside, helping yourself. Some push through it with the help of a work, some passion, sports, others need medications. Usually it's very complex and takes many, many years.

No women, money, tasty food etc will help to actually beat depression. Think of it as being shot and slowly losing blood, but instead of calling 911 or going to the hospital, you patch yourself with a small band-aid. ...sure, it's better than doing nothing, but it won't help.

in part 1, denji used his simplistic dreams as vague goals that he tried to live by. as the story progressed, his understanding of his own dreams evolved, and his goals became more and more complex, as he allowed himself to dream higher.

in this part 2 chapter, denji returns to his simplistic dreams out of necessity. he isnt just depressed and lonely anymore; his life has basically been destroyed, and almost everyone he loves is has been killed. this chapter hits hard because pochita makes denji realize that the good things in life are still there, and that he can still find reasons to live, despite everything around him realistically being a nightmare. there are still things to dream about.

despite both of these things revolving around denji idealizing girls and food, they have vastly different contexts and implications.

(thanks, we love kazuya)

@sillywackygatto I like your explanation a lot, I haven't really seen it from this point of view. Not sure why (I feel a bit dumb), maybe because I don't really resonate with Part 2 / its cast... don't know. But if this is the deal, then yes, I can understand and relate to it.

I just wish Den would have realised he has to come up with long-term solution as well. But maybe it will happen later, as you said, he is in no condition rn, he's a literal mess.

Good things are, indeed, still around us every day and we all try to find this certain special that we can hold on to

i really liked the chapter at first but... isn't it going a little too fast?

i mean, it would have been better if we had a whole chapter about aki, power and reze. i find it a little rushed, especially denji's way of recovering so quickly from his traumas.
i hope fujimoto gives us more content on denji's traumas.

also, fujimoto needs to take a break. the art doesn’t help me to enjoy the story.

denji seeing the reze flashback is kinda funny because i'm literally rereading csm (ch 43 rn) so i saw some similar reze panels just last night. anyways, denji returning to his simplistic goals after realizing constant pain is a pretty realistic reaction. i feel like something more is yet to come of this but i'm glad he's getting his spirits up. also nice that he consider aki, power, and maybe even reze + nauyta as family.

This chapter left me feeling pretty disappointed, and I wonder if anyone else is feeling the same way. Denji's motivations have always been simplistic and juvenile, and while that can be part of his charm, at this point, it feels like his lack of growth is holding the series back. After everything he’s experienced, you’d think there might be a bit more maturity or depth to him by now, but instead, he’s stuck in the same old patterns. It’s frustrating to watch him face new challenges but remain so unchanged.

The flashbacks to his friends who died had so much potential to add depth to Denji’s character. They could have been a moment of real reflection and growth—a way for him to reconnect with what he’s lost and possibly be motivated by something bigger than his usual priorities. Unfortunately, they felt more like shallow fanservice than a meaningful callback. Instead of hitting hard, these moments came off as hollow, missing the weight they could have had.

And then there’s Denji’s “plan” at the end, which didn’t do much to hype me up either. I’m honestly keeping my expectations low at this point in the hope that Fujimoto has something wild up his sleeve that will make all this buildup worth it. Chainsaw Man has always thrived on surprises and chaos, so maybe the next chapters will deliver something more intense and satisfying. How did everyone else feel about Denji’s lack of growth, and did the flashbacks work for you or fall flat?

I definitely don’t care much about Denji as I used to. Not like I hate him, though. This chapter did get some mixed reactions outside of MAL.

I’ll be seriously disappointed if they leave Agings world so soon.

Just isnt your experience.

Depression for a reason exists, one that is developed due to constant denial or impossibility of getting what one wants and craves in life, like with denji. All that he wants is constantly destroyed and pushed away from him and every time he gets closer to it, he is not allowed to grasp it. The things that he wants the most in life are what motivate him and that understandably helps him. My experience with depression (diagnosed) was exactly like that and it didnt got better, just controlled compared to before because... well... i didnt got what i seek neither. Be it getting a gf, love, having better financial conditions, wanting freedom to be themselves or whatever it is, depression will develop when it gets increasingly more hopeless to get those things and grasp them. Denji is not depressed because he simply is, he is depressed because he is not allowed to have anything that will bring him the joy, satisfaction and happiness he wants in life. It comes out of frustration fundamentally.

For someone who has depression while having everything they could want in life, the "depression with no reason", where the depression is unrelated to wanting something out of life, it is indeed not helpful and "trash", because what would you cling to for motivation when your depression doesnt even have a reason to be and it is entirely chemical or existential or beyond what is possible to attain? I never felt that way so idk what it feels like to have that depression, i just wrote based on the first one. Which is not Denji's experience neither.

So at the end i totally understand denji's memories and clinging to what he felt when he had moments that made him enjoy life the way he wanted to. It isnt badly written.

Yeah but that's why its boring. Everyone wants that and food is literally a basic need. Also he hasnt even actively tried to get a girlfriend.
