Very long, but interesting episode that sets up the entire season (I think)! The way this show can go from 1 to 10 in eerie-ness is crazy! can't wait for episode 2!

While there wasn’t much action in this episode, it effectively reintroduced the characters and set up several intriguing plot points. Given the episode’s extended runtime of an hour and a half, it allowed for many nice character interactions, which I enjoyed. Overall, it did what it needed to do, and I'm excited for what’s next!

Good that I rewatched everything just two weeks ago, feels like no time passed in between.
I liked the mainly peaceful introduction of the new city and to see the characters again.
The city is quite different and more lively than the backwaters of the first season.

archbishop of madness... and I thought that Betelgeuse was crazy XD That was so damn sick!
the power seems to be something really strange. How did she even enter the city with that mental condition of hers?

Animation quality increased, the style is more crisp and made the character design prettier or cuter.
Also from bigger distance the character design and their faces still look decent and appealing.

I'll admit it. This one pulled the wool over my eyes. Been awhile since I watched Re:Zero, and 3/4+ through this episode I was about to give up, bored. Wasn't until the last scene I realized... "Oh, right... this is Re:Zero..."

The movie sized episode was great! Adapted the WN and LN with fidelity. A bit of important context still missing for anime-only like Subaru's whip, but nothing too major.

i’m so happy re zero is back (≧▽≦)

i waited so long, episode 1 was so good! the ending was crazy🤯

im kind of sad that im watching it late but its only cuz i wanted to watch it while in my tracksuit (to mimic subaru) n i couldn’t find my pants😭 so i skipped the 2 eps that aired lol

now that ive watched the first ep n am bout to watch the second one, i must say im very glad that it the studio took their time animating an hour long episode for a highly anticipated show. i loved how it went from slice of life/comedy to the cliff hanger at the end. im so glad re zero is back (≧▽≦)

One of the worst dogpiles of s*** I've ever seen on anime. It takes FOREVER to get anywhere... and I LOVE the series. The first episode should've been two 20min episodes and that's it. It drags on, and on, and on... by the middle I was asking myself: when will this end? Please, end soon... pleeeeease, end soon...

I think what I find most striking about Re:Zero is how much thought has clearly gone into creating an amazing fantasy world with characters that we can care for and political intrigue, all of which gets masterfully sidetracked by tragedy. I'm looking forward to watching Subaru learn to carefully navigate whatever traps this arc has in store for him. I'm hoping that he actually learned to value himself as season 2 made a big deal about that, but I don't know what that might look like since his biggest strength is his return by death. Maybe his secret training has made him strong enough to take on some challenge without just dying but somehow I suspect that he and the audience will continue to be treated to the worst horrors imaginable.

over 1 hour of happy meetings and lots of jokes, Emilia's fanservice and meeting many other charas apart from the Subaru'ssquad

but ofc we couldn't end on an happy note, so that death at the last second, damn

Wow this was a packed premiere! The beautiful new city and the reminiscing of old characters really caused me to lower my guard. The new archbishop Sirius sure proved how that was a mistake...

My favorite part was seeing Garfiel hallucinate Elsa. (At least I believe it was a hallucination) It's been so long I don't remember if he did that beforehand, or if this is something new after his ego got bruised by Reinhard.

I expected him to die at the end, but him getting sick kinda surprised me, that is unusual as far as I remember.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

OOHHHHHHHHHHH YES, very good episode.... I was wondering if the episode was going to be a full intro. Showing again the characters we already saw and/or bringing new ones, the current situation and stuff like that but that ending... it was worthy of this anime.
In my head while watching what was going on I was saying: I don't understand what they are doing haha everyone laughing as if everything was normal/common but only when he killed everyone I understood that it was just a technique of the archbishop (which I loved) haha for my defense I was laughing at how ¨normal¨ the situation was and reading carefully what he was saying.
One thing I don't like at all (although it always depends on things) are the time jumps.... like what happened a year ago ?
I like to see Beatrice happier and more open to others, I hope Subaru doesn't let her down although it wouldn't be a strange thing coming from him haha.
Officially (I think) the team expanded, now we have Otto and Garfiel I like them... the latter had quite a bit of prominence in this episode which was interesting: he turns out to be quite proud (no surprise haha) and he found his mom.... OOOH very cute but I think it must be someone similar and maybe he ends up getting closer to her for obvious reasons and I love the duo he forms with Mimi.
Looks like a Van Astrea subplot is coming, this interests me a lot
So Wilhelm and Rainhard are family and Wilhelm pushed him away when he blamed him for his wife's death although now he regrets it and it seems that Rainhard wants to connect with him although dad ruins the moment.
The Gateway City reminds me a lot of the SNK Districts (high walls, a river that crosses them in the middle although this city has many more as Subaru says: A Venice) and you can see that they are very inspired by Japan from the food to the decoration.... Could it be that the Founder was from the same world as Subaru ? this is an interesting approach
Now I understand what Priscilla said in the first season that she could take care of herself, she has a great sword... it only took them more than 25 episodes to show it haha.
The archbishop of Wrath has the same eye and hair color as the elves in Emilia's village, there will be a connection ? we'll see.

PS: For some reason, I love the design and voice that Anastasia has.

PS2: It's true those rumors I heard that Emilia's plot has been ¨increased¨.

PS3: This season looks like it's going to be quite hard (xd is RE:Zero I know), with the amount of characters there are and already 2 archbishops were presented... in the cover there are 4... what's coming... we'll have to see it

Did they really just introduce ANOTHER loli into the mix?

I'm tired of this becoming a harem anime with a group of pre-teen-looking girls joining the crew.

Also, and this is just a pet peeve & not a big deal, but can anime start using REAL animal sounds/uniquely made animal sounds rather than having human voice actors make horrible animal impressions?

If you need an example, go to 18:25 in the episode where the 2 dragons "Raarrr" at each other. It's actual cringe. Imagine if Godzilla made that sound lol

Anyway, tangents aside, pretty solid reintroduction to the series & characters. It was mostly boring, but it was good to see everyone again.

I felt like season 2 was slightly worse than season 1 now I feel like the show has dropped in quality even more. It might only be the first episode but the visuals have definitely become worse so has even the writing. It feels pretty mid so far to be honest. Im hoping this season improves in later episodes or else i might not feel like continuing.

@xZabuzax After just finishing episode 2 literally i must say I agree with you. Its beginning to get better now. Is it just me or are the backgrounds too vibrant and simple? It gives a different atmosphere then before. I feel like they used to be more atmospheric. Maybe im just too nit picky when it comes to animation.

Such a nice slice of life episode or so we think.
It's nice to see the majority of the cast again. Who knew that Reinhard was related to Wilhelm. Now that is a legendary bloodline. Hopefully those two will rekindle.
Priestella is a beautiful city. It reminds of Venice, Italy a lot because of the river canals. So cool.

The last few minutes of the episode was intense. The sin archbishop of the witch cult is back at it again. But this time, everyone's heads get blown off. The suffering continues.

Oh boy, we are so back! I really liked the entire setup for this season and how there is so much depth with the characters now after the first 2 seasons. Due to episode length there is alot to unpack and it will be nice to see how SUbaru will have to use every bit of information in this adventure.

The ending was just so bizzare and Sirius made me feel so creeped out - maybe even more than Betelgeuse back in the day. What an intruiging power that was enchanting an entire audience and using one victim as some sort of vodoo doll whose fate will be shared by the audience. Scary all the way through!

It's the start of the thrid season and Subaru is back. It has been one year and things going well. Then at the invitation of Anatasia, the party went to the Watergate City of Priestella. One day, the Sin Archbishop of Wrath, Sirius Romanee-Conti makes an appearance. Subaru was killed but he recoiled in shock when he returns by death.

I'm 45 minutes into the new season and I can't stand the dialogue. Every convo between Subaru and Beatrice is cringe asf. I'm alone in the room and put on headphones because of embarrassment that someone might come in and see me watching this bs. It's so corny and all that "loli" talk in there is giving me the creeps. Like the scene with the songstress who looks ~9 years old and the gag with Subaru touching her and her saying "make me a woman" is just... eww. I can't wait for something horrible to happen to Subaru so he can stop running his mouth already.

But fr now, why can't Japanese people make good anime without including some 8yo girl as main cast in it. Or, I mean, it's not even that, just treat children like children. "3-gatsu no lion" has among its main cast 2 children and is a great example of handling these types of characters in an appropriate and wholesome manner.

Sexualizing children should have a studio tank heavily in sales. Not enough people are disgusted by these scenes. I feel like it's become so prevalent in anime it left many people desensitized. Shows like this are normalizing something that should just remain a taboo forever.
