| Another one of those anime about demon lords given a second chance to rule the world...lol, this is one of the new trends in recent years. Veltol has the standard tropes of a demon lord. Haven't read the source material for this so coming in this as an anime viewer only. At the setting has somewhat potential with its history. I have mixed thoughts on Veltol's character, maybe he can become likable? Only time will tell I guess. |

| Demon Lords, Demon Lords. Where to even begin when it comes to them. Probably one of, if not the most overused troupe up there with isekai. But this time around, they're doing and putting an effort into doing something different.... a demon lord in a FUCKING CYBERPUNK WORLD.... nah it just doesn't get cooler than that now does it. Right off the bat, this is very clearly different from most J.C. Staff anime. IDK what they've been smoking over there, but whatever it is they need to keep it up because what is this, like the third or fourth J.C. Staff show that actually looks good and not like the usual slop they put out? I mean, hell, they used the classic 21:9 aspect ratio for the backstory. Normal J.C. Staff would add a black-and-white filter and call it a day. Though, getting into the city itself, this is just Shinjuku set in, well 2099 ofc lol. I mean, we got the lude ads, even if it was by a hacker, got the crows of people, and a Demon Lord! Nah, but getting to the main event of the episode, demon lord vs. glasses dude and yeah, that encounter by itself sold me on the show instantly. Usually, we'd see the demon lord win all his battles because, I mean, he's the fucking demon lord, but this time around, that's different. In the FIRST episode he already lost... so one of his past subordinates no less. So ofc, now it's just him and Machina left to make it in this world together. One of the best premieres of the season ngl, really liking this already. |

| Novelist Daigo Murasaki's cyberpunk reverse Isekai, certainly this is more interesting than your typical cookie-butter Isekai. Shiyui's OP is decent, and nothing to write home about. As always, the fate of the fantasy world of Alnaeth rests on the battle between good and evil: the Hero Gram vs. the Demon Lord of Veltol Velvet Velsvalt, which the typical storyline of the hero winning against the demon lord has been dealt. And as the world lives on, Veltol lives on thanks to one of his Six Dark Peers of Machina Soleige, but finding himself in the progress of Earth of a cyberpunk Shinjuku with his powers intact, Machina has to brief him again of the events 80 years thereafter. A world of ceasefire and mortal respect of all kin, and a girl who specializes in hacking, Veltol may be clueless in the new world, but all he knows is to seek out a fellow Dark Peer of Marcus of the Bloody Arts, who's now leading the corporation of Ishimaru Heavy Magic Industries. Veltol wanting Marcus to rebuild his Immortal Kingdom, but it's clear that his hatred for Veltol necessitates the building of Earth to his bidding through the planting of his Familia system to its people. Without power, Veltol is weak in neo-Shinjuku, and has to live with Machina for the time being, living to get by. How will Veltol recognize of the new world that he doesn't know? It's all up to his guesses... |

| Demon Lord 2099 surprised me in more ways than one. Not only was I expecting this to be your typical isekai trash, but I thought it would be horrible. Oh boy was I glad I was wrong! Demon Lord 2099 obviously takes inspiration from bladerunner, cyberpunk, and the sorts. The animation was truly amazing, and I liked the widescreen look in the beginning of the episode. The characters seem really cool so far! I love the devotion it shows between Machina and Veltol, it truly shows how much she looks up to him. The character designs are also very Cyberpunk 2077 esque. I'd love to see much more of this anime in the future, and I am looking forward to the coming episodes. After seeing this first episode, I must say I am in love with this anime so far. I give the first episode an 8.6/10 :)  |

| That was pretty neat, I've been looking forward to this ever since the announcement as it seemed interesting and yep it's very much so. They threw a bit of everything in the setting. From immortal demon lord getting defeated by a hero and reincarnating to reverse isekai magic fantasy scifi cyberpunk world, everything but it meshes in well and makes an interesting environment. Now they just gotta make the hero join Maou to complete the list and have a feeling it will happen. Maou looks cool, the white hair is cute but hacker girl is more amusing. Would love to see the girl voiced by Itou Shizuka join maou at some point. Production is good and I had to double to check make sure it really was JC staff considering the kind of production values they've been putting out for most shows in recent times but they can deliver if they want to like Danmachi. |

Not only is he getting pushed around by some random thugs walking on the street, but now has to live at a place he didn't even deem worthy for store room activities. | J.C. Staff needs to chill out, lol. Almost feel asleep in the beginning, but this might be good. A Demon Lord reduced to a bum who has to adapt to the future is an interesting premise. |

| 4/5, I definitely share the feelings of the MgRonalds to World Conquering anime Demon-Lord at Work however [so far] major differences seem to be: -less comedy -more sci-fi -more serious (?) I was honestly shocked when the demon-lord spoke, could have sworn that was a chick. We can't really tell who's bad and who's good yet, so for now I'll give everyone neutral marks. I think the last "cyberpunk" themed show I watched was the movie "Ghost in the Shell", can't think of anything else as not a theme I usually go for. I'm very interested if those implants will be like Vandelay's Armstrong Project in Hi-Fi Rush as that's my #1 concern if Marcus is evil. Magic Worlds and Cyberpunk Worlds fused, look forward to more! |

| I like the premise so far as its a cyberpunk isekai that everyone was asking for. There was a reference to Blade Runner and of course V-Tubers still exist. Can the former Demon Lord adjust to the new cyberpunk world in which he is no longer the strongest one anymore? |

| It’s crazy cause JC staff will take a season off or so and then come back with NINE, yes you read that correctly, NINE shows in one season holy shit what a studio 😭 they’re cooking on all tho. Been so excited for this one ever since it was announced, I’ve always found it interesting when I’d see it in the bookshops but when I heard it was getting an anime, I said I’d wait to watch it and I’m glad I did so far. Amazing first episode. Not like I expected at all, thought this would be just like hatamaou, but it’s already 1000x more compelling with a more interesting world, story and characters. The world Veltol woke up in could not be more different from the one he left not just in appearance, but also the mentality of the people and the gonna be interesting seeing that play out. He was once the top of the food chain and now he’s at the bottom with those he once looked down upon. The magic that once made he and his generals special is now commonplace among the general populace AND one of his closest advisors is now a traitor. Machina, what a character. The fact she’s been preparing for Veltol’s return all these years by herself laying the groundwork and suffering in silence living in that tiny ass kitchen all alone.. that hug at the end really just summed it up. She deserves it and I know she’s been holding those tears in. Very very good episode here idk how people have it at damn near below a 7 on MAL. First ep raters are the worst lmao. Can not wait to see that bum Marcus get taken out eventually, also I’m sure that was the hero he passed on the street so it’ll be interesting to hear about his reincarnation as well and all the other interesting stuff that comes with being in a cyberpunk world. |

| It was a pretty solid first episode imo (i'm a sucker for cyberpunk), I just hope it doesn't use cyberpunk as a gimmick and fully embraces it, looking foward to this show! |

| The most horrifying thing about this show is that in 2099, Vtubers still exist... That aside, really good start. Getting some serious Deus Ex: Human Revolution vibes here with Marcus feeling like the Hugh Darrow of this world. Veltol going from top of the world to getting his ass beat by street punks even I could put up a fight against is really something. |

| @KANLen09 Do people really just call anything within the Fantasy genre isekai? Even worse, calling it reverse isekai, when it's plain old Tensei (reincarnation) subgenre. And these are the kind of people that will write a mile high summary/review but don't know left from right on what they are talking about. |

But this one appears to have an actual plot. If it stays this serious, it might turn out as something truly great. Only dumb thing that most anime do wrong: Despite being called "demon lord", he's not really doing anything evil. The worst he did was kill. Wow. Can we please have demon lords that RAPE? But no, that would be "truly" evil, so it will never happen. BERSERK remains a rare example of what demons actually should be like. |

| Interesting start to this unique series with it being a reincarnation-type set in a futuristic cyberpunk world. It's also different to have the demon king not be OP (at least for the moment) and will have to figure out a way to overcome the technology advancements that Marcus and other humans have created. |
| This show wasn't on my radar until I watched the trailer today and liked what I saw... plus Miku Itou. I came expecting the character voiced by Miku Itou to be my best girl (which she is) but I really liked the hacker girl too and even the secretary obsessed with that cute thing haha. It's a nice female cast so far. Not gonna lie, I actually liked the MC being humbled even if just a little bit. I feel like he needs it. Pretty good first episode. I like the fusing of worlds and the characters we've seen so far. |

| @MyllerPhiem Yeah the problem is that "demon lord" should not ALWAYS be the translation for "maou" but for some unfathomable reason, the entire English localization industry has decided on this as the one and only correct term. But "maou" could also mean "sorcerer king" or if you want to get flowery, "magical lord," and those are titles that fit Veltol a lot better. If they put a "dai" in front as in "dai maou" you could call him an overlord. The issue comes from the kanji 魔 "ma" because it could mean EITHER "magic" or "demonic." Another example is from Re:Zero, the "mabeasts" in that series are explicitly stated to be an abbreviation for "magical beasts" but it's using the same kanji, meaning they could also be called "demonic beasts" with 100% accuracy, but the story clearly means for them to be "magical beasts." Also, here's another fun fact: "maou" is the term the Japanese translation of The Lord of the Rings uses to refer to the Witch-King of Angmar precisely because it fits well enough with his English title of "Witch-King." It is not used for Sauron, the Japanese text calls him "meiou" which means "Underworld King." |

| Okay okay, I'm feeling this. The maou makes a good straight man, and it's not yet falling into any of the tropey traps of isekai. As long as super hacker girl doesn't immediately modify the chip to make him the strongest again this could be pretty good. |
