Which season did you like better?

Honestly, I like the second season more, probably because it wasn't as hyped as the first one, I watched the second season with a different mindset and practically every episode was good for me. In the first season I don't remember anything beyond the first episode making a bigger impression on me.
The second season approaches the acting thread better, the animation that perfectly portrayed the emotions of the characters made the entire Tokyo Blade arc really enjoyable, even the earlier thread of the manga author could be immersed and it was interesting to see what this industry looks like from the other side and the last episode was a banger with bangers, we got a lot of exciting plot twists so the bar for the third season is set very high.

I just hope that these weird things I've heard about won't ruin the third season.

First. I'm biased though because I'm part of Team Kana.

Season 2 in my opinion was a set up season for the big plot for the rest of the series, which made it suffer by itself. So in terms of plot, I think season 1 was stronger. Season 2 however was much more hype to me, making it better at least in my opinion.

I'm telling you guys right now. What S2 adapted was pretty much the peak of ONK in the manga. So we basically reached the anime's peak. But don't worry, the next arcs, while not at the last 2's level, are still incredible

I think s2 was the opposite of s1.

S1 started as hype and over time it lost steam. S2 didn’t really start out as hype but by the end of it made it hype. So in my fullest opinion I liked season 2 more.

I completely agree. I was excited for this season but wasn’t hooked right away like last season. BUT around half way, I was like, damn, when’s the next one lol

Season 1, but mostly because of episode 1. Without counting episode 1 of season 1, then probably season 2.

The first season was good but it didn’t really come together until the second season for me. I enjoyed the second half of season one though. But season two hooked me from the first episode and I couldn’t wait for the next episode. Aqua was so much better in the second season and I loved the interaction with Akane. Season two is definitely better .

The opener to season one is phenomenal, which puts it ahead of season 2 for me. However, the main plot progresses more, or to greater satisfaction, in season 2, which boosts it back up.

But crucially, I think the Tokyo Blade play overdramatized its big character moments. Not that the moments are bad, I think they’re all at least positive. But, having them back-to-back makes it feel a bit cheaper as the play goes on. And one or two of those moments were directed as massively impactful without what they needed to back that up. I remember some lines also feeling overly deep in one of the better moments, Aqua’s emotional acting. You don’t necessarily need to convey something as deep for it to have impact. It’s honestly just a bit of over-direction, which most anime do to an extent to play things up. It may help with general anime fans and younger audiences, but it hurts with critics the more you do it. And it def hurts with general audiences (all age groups and demographics) and skeptics of anime.

I prefer s1. s2 is definitely a setup for the next season and it's pretty good but s1 felt more consistent

Season 2, and by quite a significant margin

This is probably a controversial opinion, but Season 1, specifically past the first episode, is one of the weakest stretches of OnK as a whole IMO. The show’s very premise is overstuffed & messy, and while that’s obviously something which can be overcome through solid execution, S1 is pretty clumsily in that regard, with its overly unnatural expository dialogue and exceedingly dull usage of Aqua as a character really holding back a lot of the genuinely good ideas in it.

Season 2, by contrast, is OnK at its absolute best. The Tokyo Blade arc’s stronger shift towards an ensemble cast and the greater room to breathe afforded by its length gave its storytelling a lot more to work with in terms of letting its themes and exploration of the entertainment industry flow more naturally, compounded by explosively engaging character arcs. Most importantly, it did a ton for Aqua, both taking him out of the spotlight in a way that let the rest of the cast actually shine, and giving him some actually interesting internality of his own through his self-loathing and coming to terms with his past trauma that made him feel like an actually interesting character worth getting invested in rather than the bland living crutch for the writing he often felt like in much of the first season.
Barely catching my breath!
Lay my eyes on the crest!
Gonna square up to all of the heat that is left!
So I carry the torch! To Inferno! Inferno!

I answered a thread like this before, saying I prefer season 2 by a slight gap; ever since then, the gap has widened, and I am sure the final episode of season 2 will widen it more.

If by weird things you mean Aqua and Ruby, then I don't see why it would ruin for you, unless you simply can't deal with stuff. It was pretty obvious from the beginning that Ruby's feelings would be dealt with somehow, regardless of how they were dealt with.

ok I wanna get one thing out of the way here for literally anyone reading this with even the slightest of info on the topic even as an anime only:

if you are referring to *that* by "weird things" then I just want you to know that NOTHING happens (not in season 3 at least) and the manga readers / twitter and whatnot made way too big of a deal out of it, please, dont think about it to hard and go as far as hoping it wont ruin season 3. (Also rhe thing that sparked controversy is either right at the end or non existent in season 3 but the latter seems unlikely to me even though its the more correct thing)

Both were inconsistant but i was disappointed with the theater arc and felt like this season was mostly filler, season 1 atleast had a great intro which makes it more memorable to me, now i'm expecting big things for season 3

S1 had two episodes that I thought were the best two episodes of the show...

But aside from that, S2 literally topped it in every single way possible. Personally, I don't even think it's close. S1 was great, but s2 is genuinely my anime of the year runner up at the moment.

The movie arc was great, but the 2.5D stage play mixed with private just tops that one exponentially

Season 2 started a bit slow (though still enjoyable), but by episode 4, it really picked up. By the end (and even before that, actually), I could confidently say that I love Season 2 more. Both seasons are great, in my opinion, but Season 2 excelled over the first.
