Do you think that original Ranma 1/2 anime can be considered as iconic as greats like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Pokemon, Digimon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc...?

Myself, I saw many other Rumiko's anime, but never Ranma 1/2, or rather, I only saw that one collaboration OVA from late 2000s where all important characters from Rumiko's titles appear in.

I knew about Ranma for years, and more or less know about the plot, but somehow just never got to it to watch it (yet), despite me getting into many popular old school anime; I do know that many characters from it have seiyu in Detective Conan.

That being said, at this point, in your opinion, is Ranma 1/2 also as legendary as some other anime that were introduced in the West in 90s, and 2000s?

Personally, while I believe that for most of you will answer be yes, myself, I still don't see it completely as such - probably because I still haven't seen it, or because I haven't seen it during my "anime formative years" - which was in 2000s.

in terms of animation quality or visual quality overall i say its a classic but the story is kinda repetitive and the main plot is slow to progress and its incomplete adaptation of the manga too

So much anime exist nowadays that monopolies on popularity are no longer possible. I doubt even dbz if it released nowadays could stand out as much in the modern landscape. I do think ranma is a huge cult hit in the anime fandom.

Why post using an alt acc instead of your real one?

Yes, after all I watched the old version on TV during my childhood, so in a way it is a classic that exudes nostalgia every time I watch it. Just like Naruto and Dragon Ball, Pokémon, Digimon... among other classics

Short answer is yes. Especially, if you live in Japan. I know in recent decades, it's lost some familiarity with Western audiences, but it was quite big when I was getting back into Anime in the late 1990s-early 2000s.

No but it is one of the most loved manga of the 90’s so it’s still important

Ranma ½ is Rumiko Takahashi's best work ever, straight up. I have it way above Pokemon, Digimon (lol why these two?), Inuyasha (redundantly), Cowboy Bebop and Akira.

you gave anime that I consider ranma a lot better of, if you think those count then I don't see why ranma doesn't

Popularity is not exactly the same as being iconic, but I've heard of every other anime in the title besides Ranma which I've only found out about some weeks ago due to the remake. It seems pretty fun so far tho, so I'm looking forward to seeing the rest out.

In Japan Urusei Yatsura is, but Ranma is more popular abroad

Edit: I should probably add that it basically is that level for Japan too but for them UY has a greater cultural impact compared to Ranma. It's still one of Rumiko Takashi's most famous works

Yes. In the hispanic community, this and DBZ are the GOAT animes. Saint Seiya being a close 3rd.

Serious answer: Ranma ½ established multiple tropes that are considered mainstream, even overdone, now. Takahashi, at least in her early career, was one of the groudbreakers of several genres.

While the series itself might not have as much popularity as some of her other ones by comparison & has certainly been overshadowed by more recent series' massive popularity both in Japan & around the world, Ranma ½ is what would be considered "iconic" by nature of setting the mold for so many series that have come since.

(That said, it's not as though it's ever become *unpopular*, it just didn't maintain the same level of popularity as it had in its heyday, nor did it reach the level of her other series. Fans of a certain age bracket & certain demographics(mostly queer fans) have made up the bulk of the fandom for a long time.)

Ramna is absolutely iconic, no question asked. As iconic as every title you listed? Depends of the country, really. Regardless, there's no denying that it's one of the big classic series from the 90s overall.

On a worldwide level all of the titles mentioned are more famous than Ranma, though locally in some specific countries it may be above one or some of them.

It is certainly iconic when it comes to be one of the pioneers of the harem genre, that's for granted.

During the 17 initial episodes, Ranma is much, much better than anything you cited, but then it slowly became worse and worse to the of being unwatchable by the episode 112 onwards, if this remake makes the right decissions, it could be one of the best animes of all time, Ranma was MUCH ahead of it's time.

Well, if you're going to include a bunch of overrated shows in there, then... I don't see why not.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.
