I understand most of this episode was just comedy but I'm hoping the action visuals look better for later episodes. Always fun to see a character show off their OPness at the start, though what matters is how a series manages the rest of the show.

This does feel like another case of a series based on a light novel but adapted using the manga as the basis. Basically one to one manga panel to anime adaption and character designs.

So...this is History's Strongest Disciple: The Isekai, or something, I guess? I assume I'm not the only one who sees it. Weak MC gets OP in a short time via inhumane training from his monstrous teachers who are the strongest in the world in each of their areas of expertise?

Finally adaptation worth looking. Chracter design similiar to manga, story telling for now matching with manga. No blunt animation and no simpleton 3d. I notice only small correction of some scenes that not distrubt watching.
If this anime will follow how episode 1 was made, then this will be one of not many good adaptation.

Strongly enjoyed this.
Dude busts all the test stuff
overpowers a twin tailed beauty
and is humble about his strength

perfect generic character for this kind of anime.

Dude reminds me of the MC from Saikyou Tank

7.6/10

big downside is the OP though, I felt like I was watching a late 90s anime

Something I posted elsewhere:

Rick has the same "unwittingly false humility" problem that Rudeus Greyrat does. He hangs around with God tier talents all the time (Paul, Roxy, Ghislaine, Ruijerd, Badigadi, Elinalise, Eris, etc.), therefore his perception of what constitutes 'weak' is horrifically skewed.

And yes, getting major Interspecies Reviewers vibes from the OP, and I'm so here for it.

Rick was really dense and witty, I liked his character and the art style was pretty similar to manga and it looked really good honestly. Rick has just been trained to death, but he doesn’t know how powerful he has become. In short in this episode he takes the adventurer’s test and gets an F rank and then Angelica challenges him thinking that she is a Knight second class (basically similar to a B rank adventurer) and he can’t withstand her but we all know who is the invincible one… I loved the character designs and the overall episode was really good with a witty plot.

Even as a comedy, it's really hard to watch this especially with all those misunderstanding at the end.

A 32 years old man who worked as a guild receptionist for 14 years who is unable to perceive what's commonly treated as strong is beyond dense. That's just fucking dumb.

Like, is he not paying attention to his surroundings when he was working?

Dropped.

Basically One Punch Man but with a 32 year old man in a fantasy world. Quite enjoyable first episode. We'll see were this is going.

The OP was so unexpected lol

The character design in the anime is way better compare to the manga. But i also expect some sensor. It is so weird see the characters you just read now all taking with VA. Angelica had a totally different voice form what a i imagine.

Rick's abilities are pretty crazy, he's got the physical powers of One punch Man and Mash Burneded from Mashle!! I also feel like he seems pretty dense about his heightened sense during his duel with Angelica, so this should be interesting!

I enjoyed the first episode. It brought a lot to the table, from the pleasant art style, the interesting character designs, and decent animation to the comedic undertones and ridiculous, oblivious nature of the protagonist. It struck me as being a power-fantasy that is something of a tonal cross between KonoSuba and that Overly Cautious Hero isekai. The writing looks to be tropey but fine. I must say, I liked that OP--could be the product of a generational gap, but that was a fantastic opening.

A very favorable first impression; I have no expectations for this so disappointment seems a distant prospect.

Not super interesting, but had some funny moments. I'll need to see how the next few episodes are.

alls I really have to say about it is meh.. just seems like a generic fantasy action anime like oh the main guy is overpowered but he doesnt know his own strength cause hes stupid. just boring really. it was somewhat funny in places but thats about it. not really a big fan of the animation, the character design, the premise or the opening. maybe it'll get better, but right now it just reminds me of how not to summon a demon lord which was a major shitshow

My thoughts on this show are that it's great if you want it to be. There are some things I didn't like that seemed a bit generic to me like how op he is and how ignorant he is of his power.

Overall though, I like this anime a lot. I did give it 5/5 because it's the first anime where I listened to the opening song out of enjoyment. As someone in their thirties, I also like the fact that they're making more shows like this. As I'm curious to see how they'll take the story from here, I just hope they can make him realize how strong he is and quick. His ignorance can only be funny for so long before things get kind of bland. Looking forward to keeping up with this one.

And again, I love the opening song lol.

I really enjoyed this. From the moment the handprint left in that scumbag's armor was revealed I knew I was in for something good. The gags consistently amused me and the duel between Rick and the knight looked good on top of being funny. I love that she made an ignoble retreat, I was worried she'd become his servant which would've actually been too generic and old hat.

I didn't have a problem with Rick. He lacks practical experience and still overcoming everyone telling him his dream is a foolish mistake. I'm fine with it taking a little while for him to get beyond that. Just because he was a receptionist doesn't mean he's got field experience to see what the power of those rankings look like in practice.

Surprised the adventurers who trained him are already going to show up, but adding those monsters into the mix should just increase the fun.

Strong first episode, looking forward to the next one.

Despite the very generic power-fantasy setting, I like the comedic direction so far. I like Rick's portrayal of being very determined, yet ignorant of his own power. His "battle" with the onee-chan was really funny to me lol 😂. I also noticed the detailed explanation of hero ranks and slimes in the intermission, I think that's a very good attention to detail and a good way to introduce the worldbuilding without making the characters blatantly describe it midshow. Also the Op song was quite catchy too. This might be one of the best "trashy Isekai" show of this season. 👍

Looking forward to see the other party members and more shenanigans in the next eps!

@amf85 I mean in a way but the zero to hero plot trope isn't something Syun Matsuena invented or popularized. Kenichi just came out at a point in time where the market wasn't over saturated with talent trying to get their stories read. I mean it started publishing in 2002, both manga and anime were in a very different place at that time and we didn't actually start to see a raise in self published webnovels until the early 2010s. The thing that makes Ossan Novice stand out though is that Kiraku Kishima likes ironic comedy and tropes;

The manga is also quite good.

I liked the second part with the duel. Angelica is a fun character. The gimmick with the MC is still acceptable, but will definitely get old very fast. As expected, the pantyshots were censored. Doesn't seem like I'll be watching this show for long but I guess I'll try another episode or two...
@DarkDooM2 Half of her entire character is being panty slut klutz. Staff is either morons or ordered by moronic corporations who want reach broader appeal.
They seem to adapt manga rather than the original LN since designs are closer to comic version, not to mention storyboarder clearly using manga as reference.

I really enjoy anime's like this where we have a main that has no idea just how op they are compared to most people.
The battle he had with Angelica was hilarious.
Thankfully for her, he was completely oblivious to everything so she was able to sort of save her blushes.
Looking forward to seeing what happens next time now that his instructors/trainers are there.
I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

This is a funny series and I love it!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

The opening perfectly encapsulates this anime. It's never too late to fulfill your dreams, especially if your dream involves becoming young again. Well, it's not impossible if you've been trained by the strongest group on the continent. I don't know how strong the protagonist is compared to his masters, but he certainly has a distorted perception of reality, considering himself weak.

It's an action anime that shouldn't be taken too seriously, and it features a dark-skinned elf maid waifu—consider me convinced

Okay okay, I wasn't expecting much, but something about this anime's humor and how it doesn't 100% take itself seriously is kinda refreshing. It has a bit of an old-school flair to it-- not just the OP either. It's a bit like One Punch Man (or even a little like Mashle) just with a different setting. So far though, I'm glad that our main guy, Rick, has more of a personality going on. I think he can be entertaining on his own, which is a nice change from a lot of the main male characters we've been getting as of late.
Additionally, as a thirty year old, I'm happy to see another 30-something year old not let their age be a wall, yet it's still nice to see that he's not exactly secure about it, which is realistic enough as a character thought process. I'm interested in seeing where this goes!

Honestly, the only thing that irked me so much in just one episode is how the 30-year-old man does not realize that he's strong while destroying everything and everyone without even trying. That makes 0 sense and it's so stupid. Any normal person would realize that means the people who trained him were that strong not that he's weak, it makes it feel like the MC is mentally challenged.

I am guessing Japan is starting to get bored of the regular teenager MCs...

So now we got little kids and old dudes as MCs, LOL.

(also... a lot of "no magic, all brawn" MCs...) (I guess One Punch and Mashle has become the next "norm" for anime plots...)

.

hmm... this seems to be fairly random plotted... LOL

The old dude used to be a guild counter clerk huh... but switch to adventurer.

But somehow... the dude... doesn't realize exactly how strong he is now?

Which is weird... cause if he's 30 years old... and used to be a guild counter clerk... wouldn't he know all about adventurers and their average strengths? (he only spend 2 years training after he quit his old job) It's not like that other old dude series that spend their childhood in the woods and didn't interact with anyone for 15+ years...

This one seems to make the old dude... a sort of retard for 30 years of his life... why do this? why make the MC look stupid? do people enjoy this plot style? LOL

(Even OnePunch was acting like he's stupid cause he got bored, and Mashle just didn't care about anything but puffs, lol)

.

Basically... imagine a being any company front counter/ costumer service, but has no idea about what the company or the employees do... how do that even work? How are you going to answer people's question when they come asking you about stuff? LOL...
