While I do think this show should be allowed to be considered it's own thing, separate from Nichijou, the parallels between the two (only 1 episode in tbf) are undeniable. One crucial part of Nichijou that works for me is that it doesn't feel the need to explain everything. Nichijou is weird, random and silly, and if you don't get it oh well. This show feels like it needs you to know that it isn't taking itself seriously. The MC acts as a kind of Shinpachi-esque straight man to explain out loud how weird everything is, and it kinda irks me. Perhaps they want to reach a wider audience.

I still liked a lot of it though. Especially when it didn't bother to be self aware. It is also too early to make a concrete judgement of.
So I hope I'm wrong, because this looks really up my ally

This probably isn't worth creating a thread for, but I have never made one before. And for some reason, this has been occupying my mind and refuses to leave.

Feel free to add your own discrepancies, or tell me that I'm being a whiny bitch below.

I didn't know what it was and I really enjoyed the first episode of shikanoko nokonoko koshitantan
there may be some similarities to nichijou but
I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I found many similarities between demon slayer and aot and I think after demon slayer ends, I may like it more than aot

I think you're being a bit too harsh on Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan. While the comparisons to Nichijou are understandable given their similar comedic styles, it's important to recognize that each show brings its own unique elements to the table. The MC's role as a "straight man" might seem like it's over-explaining now, but this could be a deliberate choice to set the tone for the series and distinguish its humor from that of Nichijou.

Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan doesn't need more episodes or time to prove itself. From the first episode alone, it's clear that the show has a unique charm and style. The self-awareness and explanation of the weirdness might be a part of its appeal, making it accessible to a wider audience without compromising its humor. Instead of seeing this as a flaw, it can be appreciated as a different approach to comedy.

Let's enjoy Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan for what it is rather than comparing it too closely to Nichijou. The show stands strong on its own merits and offers a fresh take on the genre.

Nichijou is my absolute favourite comedy, but I don't think this show is "trying hard" to be like it. I think it's doing its own thing. Sure, comparisons can't be avoided but I prefer to enjoy it without fixating on something that isn't necessarily true.
Same happened with AOT and Kabaneri. People were bitching about latter being AOT clone. I disagreed there too. Fixating on such things IMO only ruins the experience as you focus on being offended (lol) rather than having a good time.

A similar show on the same genre =/= trying to be nichijou. If that's the case then the gazillion isekai shows every season is "trying to be" Inuyasha.

This comparison is getting tiring. Nichijou is about exaggerating slice-of-life tropes meanwhile this show has a specific plot. On top of that Nichijou wasn't the first anime to be a gag humor CGDCT. There's Azumanga Daioh, Squid Girl, Pani Poni Dash like this was huge in the 2000s.

Both shows share the same kind of humour, it's a constant stream of grotesque and absurd funny situations. But that because this kind of shows/category is quite popular in Japan and even part of other animes.
The only similiarity I see with Nijichou is that they both mainly focus on chaotic comedy effects.

Shikanokonokonokokoshitantan might be similar to nichijou in some aspects but in shikanokonokonokokoshitantan there seems to be a peculiar humor of shikanokonokonokokoshitantan which relies on the fact Shikanoko Noko doesn't play dumb like it was the case for some characters in nichijou. Shikanoko Noko is fundamentaly dumb and so it becomes risky to be around her. While in nichijou the comedy came in majority from the situations in Shikanokonokonokokoshitantan it seems to come from the characters' interactions and that's why I think about Shikanokonokonokokoshitantan that shikanokonokonokokoshitantan no ko shika katan.

The most important differences, the reasons why I enjoyed the first episode of Shikanoko way more than the first and only episode of Nichijou I've watched, are:

- Nichijou is completely random, Shikanokonoko is randomness with a theme (deers)
- Nichijou is impossible to enjoy if you don't find it super funny, Shikanokonokonoko can be enjoyed just for the cute retards doing cute retard things

I dont know if that's the exact correct criticism, but I definitely felt strange with this first episode. Did not laugh nearly as much as I expected to. It's just one episode but I'm definitely a little disappointed so far. Hoping the show hits its stride soon.

Shikanoko is quite self-aware about its structure and parallels with Nichijou; as well as the overuse of deer jokes. And this thread is somewhat what it tried to achieve by implementing the parallels.

While the parallels are unignorable, Nichijou and Shikanoko are quite different. Nichijou is not an absurdist comedy rather a situational comedy by exaggerating fairly relatable scenarios a.k.a parody.

Also Koshitan is the only character on the viewers side. The contrast she creates is half of the comedic side of the story.

I like Nichijou more but I don't mind whatever Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan is trying to do.

Thought the same thing, just a few minutes in xD
It's kinda blatant...

IF this really is a calculated move or even a Homage , I don't know if it actally is helpful, forcing the audience to constantly compare it with a Kyoto-Ani classic. I think it hurts its popularity.

@Mepa Damn, good observations. For my part, I just needed this type of show to lighten my mood. Not everything has to be all serious and dramatic. Life already has plenty of that to deal with. Think of it as a sort of therapy, just watching for fun and relaxation.

I'm a big fan of Gag Humor which is the style of this anime, and just the reference to Tokyo Revengers at the beginning disappointed me a lot. It's also being produced by Wit Studio which is the same one that collaborated with CLOVER WORKS to produce Spy Family ;-;.

It's as if it wanted to be a weird anime but for non-otakus to enjoy (ironic, uh?) trying to please everyone isn't aways so cool, so, the dark humor and very dark situations that characterize many of these animes, will certainly not be present as expected, which is very boring.

The big popularity is due to the TikTok dance that easily stuck in people's heads, this is another negative point and makes me sad to have been born in this generation. I intend to follow along, but I'm going to hope that the humor doesn't just get disjointed and very silly after about 5 episodes because I really want to enjoy this show, but in fact, it is still much inferior to the animes that the author took inspiration from in several aspects and it didn't deserve a comparison considering just this first episode.

@Mepa I don't understand what is so unique about him, I mean, his look is the same as those loli animes from 2017. I don't want to set rules for how humor should or shouldn't be done, but the fun of the most absurd humor isn't exploring several ideas at the same time without much explanation? They used deer as the theme, at least in my opinion it's pretty boring when the subject is saturated like that

I watched Nichijou as well Asobi and currently watching squid girl. The theme Shikonoko is doing it different. I've failed to realized that when i watched the first episode and expected too much. Now assuming it as its own way of humor i kind enjoyed the 2nd episode more than previous one.

What i am trying to say is don't compare Shikonoko with the other ones and you'll enjoy it more.

I agree. I genuenly tried to understand why people praise this, but... No, I can't take this moronic show anymore. The entire plot is based around tormenting the MC, by creating this absurd reality, where stupidity is the correct way. Nichijou was great, because it was an actual parody of Anime. This is just making low effort jokes, that are only "funny", because they're chaotic.

My original comparision idea for this anime was Maria Holic btw, where the story took place in an absurd world/situation. But there, the jokes actually worked, because Kanako was the one, who kept getting punished for doing stupid things and not the ones, who were sensible. ( https://myanimelist.net/anime/5030/Maria%E2%80%A0Holic )

For a western comparison, I think the closest thing to this train wreck would be Uncle Grandpa. It had the similar concept of the stupid MC kept getting their way, despite how illogical it always been. And yes... Uncle Grandpa isn't a show, that is praised for it's greatness...
