It's a peaceful story and Tonbo finally gets the courage to leave the island. Congratulations also to Bunpei.

And good news because the sequel to the second season has been announced at the end of this episode

As Tonbo starts to pack her bags being ready to leave, not everybody rescinds with her feelings, especially Wataru, who tries to learn how to play golf and only accepts her teaching instead of Igarashi's, and the most affected being Grandpa Gon, who can't afford to see her spread her wings. As much as Bunpei regrets not accepting Yoko, they'll come to their own terms at the right time.

Bunpei's grandmother giving him some valuable advice when it comes to choosing marriage with Yoko, that's some sound advice. And for a last round, Tonbo's Farewell Cup within the men for their last shoot-off. As exciting as it is, it can't compare to Bunpei finally putting his manly courage together to propose to Yoko, which everyone shouts with glee. Indeed, Tonbo is not just Grandpa Gon's granddaughter, she is everyone's child as everyone raised her on Hino Island, and now it's time for her to finally leave her comfort zone behind and venture to the outside world together with Igarashi.

Season 2 is on the way and set to continue this Fall, so I'd say tbat this show is a wonderful show...at least for the kids. I'm not too sold yet, but there's some quality to be had here.

I honestly think this is my favorite of the season, no joke.

I'm glad it gets a second season; we'll be seeing that in a few months.

This is what it looks like if Birdie Wing is more lighthearted and grounded without the mafia story and other crazy stuff. I would like to see Tonbo reunite with Tsubura again and actually play golf together like Eve and Aoi who knows where its going to.

Very glad to see this get another season, and as soon as Fall too. I was disappointed at first since I wanted this to be at least a 3-cour continuous run because of the kind of show it is but having a one season break works for me, especially since that season will cover a new era in Tonbo's life.

This was pretty decent as a whole and better than I expected. It's by no means perfect as there were episodes that the golf itself and the terminology involved was a bit too heavy handed for even a sports fan like me and was slightly less engaging at times, and the visuals aren't perfect. Even though golf is not my favorite sport whatsoever, it was nice seeing the characterization and developments from this show and the passion that clearly is there to appeal to golf enthusiasts looking for fun with some level of suspension of disbelief. It can be a bit tiring at times and the supporting cast is fairly weak in this show but I like Tonbo, I liked the developments present with the major characters, I liked the island vibe, I liked the ending too to transition towards the second season. It's not the best production in the world, nor my favorite sport by any means, but it still turned out to be a respectable anime and one of the better new anime I've seen this season. Probably going with a 6/10 for this, a LOT higher than I gave the Birdie Wing anime since I didn't like that golf anime whatsoever.

  • There is a Wiki page of the author of the story. It says he gave up the way to be a professional golfer and became a story writer for comics. This explains why the show is full of technical knowledge of the golf.
  • Incidentally, he is a son of Kawasaki Noboru who is a famous manga artist and the author of the art of Kyojin no Hoshi, Kouya no Shounen Isamu, and so on.

That was a sweet ending to season 1. The bit with Grandpa Gon telling her to come back anytime actually had me tearing up.

This show was 100% the surprise of the season for me, as it went from a show I only expected to watch an episode or two of due to residual affection for Birdie Wing to being a contender for my favorite anime of the season. I can't wait to see what season 2 brings. Hopefully by the time that ends, my Japanese will be strong enough to continue on in the manga.

Very nice and gradual progression of Tonbo's story, from refusing to leave to finally making a decision to do so. Glad we're going to see more of her journey!

I enjoyed this anime a lot.
Tonbo was a very fun kid to watch who had a great personality.
I am definitely watching the 2nd season, I am looking forward to seeing how she grows and what she is able to accomplish away from the island.
I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

One of the best anime for this season, this is how Birdie Wing gonna be if they go with the more technical route about golf (But that's what makes Birdie Wing great, the over the top aspects)

I think the last 3 episodes are the defining moments of this anime, everything pretty much got me teared up (Including Bunpei and Yoko's story) but the Gon-ji part broke me the most.

In the end, this is 10/10 and I'm glad it has 7 score now, it should be more but better if compared to the 6.4 when the first few episodes, glad that we got S2 immediately because there are no scanlation of the manga so far.

Don't care about golf at all, but this show has such strong character writing to offer, I didn't mind the technical parts at all. From the island atmosphere, to the endearing inhabitants to the great interactions between Tonbo and Igaiga, this was good. Such a big surprise, similar to others only expected to watch the first episode, like I do with most sports shows, but this is something special.

what a fun anime
even tho i couldn't care less about golf, just like golf girl's story from a couple years ago, Tonbo really made me enjoy an anime about golf lol

the way she is so good and different on her play style compared to others (not that i would know), the way all the island people trasure her like she is their own daughter (they said it multiple times lol), the way IgaIga makes scary faces and stuff, and ofc, not forgetting how her own family, who took her in and took care of her, these 13 episodes were a great watch

after 10+ episodes of not wanting to leave the island, she finally decided to go away (thanks to IgaIGa, Tsubura and that other golf old guy from last episode), and the goodbye party was quite emotional lol

people were talking about how this anime could easily go for 100 episodes, due to how many manga volumes there are, and with season2 (or 2nd cour?) already announced, we will already be at least 25% of the way there by the end of next season haha

8/10, can't wait for fall :D

So the first season has been all about growing out of your shell, and how a lot of love and caring is a major part of having the confidence to face the world again after a disaster.

To my utter surprise, this has been my favorite anime of the season. I like how they haven't shied away from introducing the more technical aspects of the game, and explaining the strategy behind the choice of each shot has always been fun. I wonder if the 3 iron story was inspired by Seve Ballesteros, who according to legend, also grew up learning to play every shot with one club - a 3 iron - and he always had a reputation for being unconventional and a maverick (like deciding the best way to play one hole was to go via a car park).

I like the characters - the VA for Tonbo has done a great job - is that really her first ever role? The voices have been very natural - nothing flashy, which is a style I like - and the supporting cast voices have just been....right. I also enjoy the quieter, less frantic pace on an island, even if the artwork isn't groundbreaking, it is pretty in the landscape shots (although the viewing perspective of the course doesn't feel quite right, and I don't know enough about art to explain why).

Leaving the island at the end of the season is the perfect way to end. Looking forward to S2!

This show has been going quite well until Episode 12. Episode 12 ruined the flow a bit after the essay part which was balanced by this Episode. Episode 13 bring back the balance of relaxed flow of story pace.

Another issue that I noticed in both Episode 12 & 13 was translation issue. It was present in both Dub & Sub version of Episode 12 & Sub version of Ep 13 (Dub is not yet released yet after so many weeks).

GrandPa Gon became Uncle Gon somehow. Same dialogue in Ep 12 & 13 has two alternate Translations that weirdly both made in official show. What the hell is that!

They didn't even bothered to select only one translation that suits the show better. These issues affected the experience at the very end of Season 1. Wish they didn't exist in next season.

These last two episodes with all the romance crap partially ruined this show. Well, this was more or less boring anyway, even though there were some interesting moments here and there.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the second season.

Good conclusion! Yoko finally agreed to marry the other guy and now Tonbo is leaving the island, it's especially good since the next season is already confirmed so we'll see how her journey goes, I'm hyped, pretty good golf anime overall, I wish they made more like that.

Beautiful last episode, altho I'm gonna be honest I'm slightly disappointed that all the islanders didn't each give Tonbo a blub of their own as a parting gift. That way she would have accumulated even more clubs that have a special meaning to her! I just hope she doesn't get forced to use "normal" clubs on the mainland that she has no attachment too :(
Either way, looking forward to season 2 and super excited that it's already coming out this Saturday! Thanks to the summer stack challenge I ended up watching this anime at exactly the right time!! ⛳️🏌‍♀️👌
