After the mess that was the first part of season 2, both in terms of production and story, Maou Gakuin and Anos VoldiGOAT are back for part two of season two.
In the Mythical Age, Anos Voldigoad, determined to defy the Moon of Creation, encounters the Goddess of Creation, Militia, and begins to forge a connection with her. Fast forward to the present: Anos, who has revealed himself as the Demon King of Tyranny, joins the classes at the Demon King Academy under the guise of a transfer student named Anoshu. While in class, Erdomaid declares the initiation of Grand Demon Lord Training to nurture stronger demon clans, with the first step being swordsmanship training led by Shin.
There's no denying that the first part of season two was, well, a mess. Solely in terms of the story, it was all over the place, whether due to the fast pacing or the fact that, well, you know, season one neatly tied up everything, making this entire second season feel unnecessary. Adding to that, the significant hiatus due to 'covid'—just another way of saying the BTS production wasn't going smoothly. While I appreciate that they took their time and gave the staff barely a year break to work on this, I feel like this should have been two consecutive cours. Both the break in season two part one, and now this one have left me confused about the final goal of this series. The only decent part of this episode was Shin and Lay finally getting that long-awaited rematch, which by the way actually had some good animation. Maybe they did use those couple of months well.. or just put all the budget into the first episode.
As for where this season is headed, I have no clue. But since it's a cash cow for Aniplex, they'll milk it for all it's worth, even if they don't bother making sense of the story. |
