| Got a lot of storytelling about Rose this episode. About time honestly. It seems this show always protrayed her with leadership skills including the mission she took with her squad. Hard to get attached to any of their party members though. Rose seems to be the strongest member of her own party and put up a hell of a fight. There wasn't much cheesy comedy this episode so this reminded me one of the darker episodes earlier this season. |

| Definitelly padding for time, not just that they moved flashback back before battle, but I believe they even stretched it quite lot. Well As standalone episode it is fine, but it ruins pacing imho. |
| Well, looks like the second part of this series is going to be pretty boring according to what we saw already in ep. 7 (Rose tells her story), then ep.8 (flashbacks from her story), and ep.9 (even more flashbacks of her story). Looks like this show is going to become just meh at the end. |

| So we've had 7 episodes of nothing but prep with no real meaning to it, and now we get a flashback episode that isn't even completed. Are we even going to get to a demon battle, or is this show nothing but a bait and switch. |

| Look I’m all for Rose’s flashbacks but stretching it into the next episode for a 13 episode anime and we’re on episode 8.. Will the anime even reach the climax of the battle with this pacing? |
| Rose in knight armour looked great! This flashback story was a little hard to watch because you just know what awful fate will befall her unit.. I hate that I like Aul so much because I know it’s gonna be heartbreaking.. It’s also interesting that Rose is pretty much the same as she is in present day in terms of giving out tough love. I thought she might have been more easygoing or relaxed in the past which led to her being stricter on new recruits in present day. Honestly though I’m ready to see the present day battle. I appreciate fleshing out rose and her former unit but they probably could’ve done this way faster. We’re on episode 8 now.. |

| I kind of liked this episode quite a bit. The series so far has been far more light hearted than it honestly could be (not a bad thing, per se), and the stakes have seemed pretty low. Despite the violent nature of the world, there have not been many emotional consequences as of yet. (Blurin's parents maybe?) It feels more like fantasy escapism at this point, an attitude perfectly mirrored in Suzune's (otaku culture drenched) view of this new world. However, despite her many comical moments and interactions, Rose has always maintained a far more serious demeanor and attitude towards conflict. This is more congruent with a world where war and violence have real human consequences. In order to understand Rose's perspective on an emotional level, the audience has to spend some at least some time getting to know the goof-balls of her former regiment. If this digression allows us to empathize with Rose better and also heightens the stakes for the upcoming battle (or at least makes tragic outcomes seem like a possibility), then I would happily forfeit some pacing efficiency for the added emotional involvement. |
| I don't mind backstory episodes as it is nice to learn more about what drives the characters, but I hope it won't take up the entirety of next episode to conclude it as there are not many episodes left for the current day war after that. |

In the Manga the first battle happens in chapter 9 which make the pacing of the anime a terrible drag. This episode is practically filler with excessive backstory detail we didn't need to know about dead people that could have been condensed to 5 minutes. Aul being annoying as hell made this episode almost painful to sit through.
| @MadVandal It's filler in any shape or form. It would be better for pacing if we got Rose backstory later as it supposed be, nonetheless it doesn't change that flashback itself is cannon. |
| Decent episode that primarily focused on Rose's background with her old group and when she was a battalion commander. I have a feeling that some of these people, like Aul, will either die or get seriously hurt which explains why she refuses to be battalion commander again. |
| Wow, a background story for a whole episode... Aul is an interesting character to have. She's so adorable (especially the VA's voice behind her). Rose's eyes are complete in this episode, she's more cute, I think. I guess the last part is next week or 2nd part. π  A bit disappointed at the end, it felt rushed, but most importantly, the travelling part was just dragging it. |

| It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it, is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service. |
| Kind of boring until the end there. I am not a fan of narratives where they get you ready to see what's next just to rewind and explain something in the past. |

| The backstory is ... why are you trying to get me attached to Rose's previous squad that we ALL know is going to end in tragedy because we already know they're all going to die horribly? Argh. I am dreading the next episode I tell you. |

| This was an episode that should've been a separate special OVA or something. All backstories should not be told but left as a mystery for the viewer/reader instead. Stuff like this makes the series worse. |

| Honestly, this episode gave me a lot of what I came here for: dark skinned characters with ram-like horns. I can't complain. Look at the variety. π |
| Rose in full-armoured garb yet still doesn't don on a weapon, it feels weird having that garb, fighting with just your fist. Aul an odd name, the author must punch some keys on a keyboard then stick with that. That's a rubbish name. The camaraderie and antics with Aul's party mirrors Asuto's party too. They only differ on how they fight. One with swords and other weapon while one helping casualty. Regardless, aside from Aul, most of the party members didn't even mention their name, one even looks like a hentai protagonist, so they are really just disposable. Not feeling anything with their potential demise really, I know it's callous, but we all knew they're going to die so, stretching this flashback till next episodes seems trivial to me. |
