Well I found that really satisfying, everything seemed to come together in a way that made sense and gave you a sense of finality to it all.

Lain is an allusion to Jesus but also set up her best friend with her age shifted teacher. What a fascinating show!

This surprisingly turned out to be a total turnoff for me despite all the positive review this show has gained over so many years. It simultaneously felt like I was understanding what was going on while also not being able to explain it. I think overall this show had great concept but really bad execution in how it showed it. It was literally a fever dream.

It was one hell of a weird watch, the weirdest I've watched so far. (I dunno if and when I do watch Angel's Egg, that would be weirder.)

I've always heard that Lain has stayed relevant due to the rise of social media and lately of AI. In a large sense, this is true. But it poses other questions that, when pondered, make you question if you've really understood Lain. Trying to understand each and every episode is as slippery as an eel. With every episode, just when you are starting to feel that you are getting it, it throws a curve ball. Some information seems disjoint or irrelevant at first glance, but it's up to you to interpret it.

It's deep but trying to make a clear sense of it seems futile.

Anyway, for this episode, I had the sense that the animé's author must have read or has been inspire by Bishop Berkeley's philosophy: his idea existence depends on having a perceiver. I was reminded of it when Lain states that existence depends on people having a memory of you. So the ideas must be similar.

There's also a Proustian allusion regarding tea and madeleine. Though perhaps the ideas might not be directly relevant.

I'll give this a fairly high rating for the questions that Lain has asked the viewer, but I can't exactly say it's enjoyable to watch. It's thought provoking and prescient.

Intriguing, thought provoking, ahead of it's time, confusing and overall amazing.

Truly enjoyed my time with this anime, surely one that I'll have to watch again in the future.

Always gonna remember Lain.

Overrated anime is an understatement. First six episodes were a snooze fest. The deus ex red pill thing was cool I guess, but overall very confusing and not really worth the watch.

That's a good ending although I'm still a bit confused. This is the also the best episode of the anime imo. Overall rating 6/10.

It was very slow paced at first and even confusing. But the Ideas within the show that was thought about was particularly intriguing. the show speeds up around the 3 or fourth episode.
Overall it's a good show for watching only once

I honestly can't stop re-watching this series. I completely understand the niche cult following that this anime has gotten through time. It plays with concepts on different dimensions and existence, as many anime do, yet in the end, it ties everything in extremely well. It seems like this was the only appropriate ending with everything finally coming to climax in the end. Great execution, minimal plot holes, and all throughout great anime.
Now one of my top 5 favorites of all time (and the opening theme? with the matching 90's melancholy music video style animations to match? amazing, timeless!)

I really liked the series, but it seems needlessly confusing. I'm a sucker for denpa, tech, and the soundtrack, so I can't give this less than an 8/10 in good conscience.

there was a portion of the episode that just felt oddly normal, caught me off-guard lol. well i'm not gonna pretend like i understood everything, but it was a very interesting ride that i enjoyed nonetheless. the unique atmosphere, directing and osts were great. some of the drawings looked weird sometimes but the animation was pretty solid, especially for it's time. pacing was kinda shit, but i feel like it might be intended to add to the surreal atmosphere. glad i watched this now, because it felt like a breath of fresh air among all the other anime i've been watching. definitely needs a rewatch for better understanding and appreciation, someday. ending felt bitter-sweet but i'm glad she was smiling at the end, i'm gonna miss lain.

C'mon guys it wasn’t that hard to understand. This anime explored themes like the impact of technology on our identity, the blurred lines between reality and virtual worlds, and the search for self-awareness. It delves into how we connect with others in a digital age and the nature of our existence. If you follow Lain's journey, it all makes sense in its own unique way

9/10 I Absolutely love this type of shi

Finally decided to watch this after being on my radar for 15-20 years. Overall an okay show. I don't think the payoff was worth all that setup. It would have been more enjoyable for me if they had put in more grounded character perspectives and less deliberately abstract storytelling. Nonetheless, I'm glad to have watched it.

In this last episode I understood her character this way: she was a program but lived all her life as a human, trying to somehow fit and make friends. When she started to acomplish that life, the real her (the wired one) started to collide with the human one. At the end, she had to sacrifice her artificial humanity and delete herself from everyone's memory (which meant, basically, to stop being), and that's why she cried. Can't imagine her sadness and pain... But I was so glad to see that she could reunite with Alice.

Watching an 1998 anime in 2024 has been a great experience, tbh, especially because I could see how Internet and all that world were conceived in those times. Comparing is so, so interesting. Now we have AI... how much things have changed, was this even thought as possible back then?

SEL is an anime that tackles a lot of interesting ideas like disassociation of reality and the true meaning of one's existence.
The topics it tackled isn't something new though, not even for the time it came out and sadly due to the really slow pacing it felt like a chore to get through.

The topics themselves were great and it had some interesting discussions throughout.
There's definitely a sense of losing identity with technology evolving as fast as it is, especially now with AI becoming more prominent.

As a big fan of philosophy and existential dilemma's I think this anime was just good enough.
